If playing a vinyl record isn't enough hassle
Hellzero replied to Jean-Luc Pickguard's topic in General Discussion
Cleaning won't be sufficient, the capacitors will collapse on themselves and the motors will burn. It could be fun, but the smell is awful. -
These are the correct record titles for ease of finding. 😉 And to be complete: Hans Werner Henze wrote a few pieces for double bass, including the Concerto for Double Bass and Orchestra and the solo work San Biagio 9 Agosto ore 12.07. He also authorized an arrangement of his Serenade for solo double bass, originally for cello, and the Trauer-Ode, which was adapted for six double basses from its original for six cellos.

So, I firstly took a look at the 20+ albums of Renaud Garcia-Fons and focused on pure solo double bass ones. Right now, listening to his first album called Légendes with bow on each and every tune. Will then listen again to the live performance album simply called Solo, the Marcevol concert, but these two albums are the art of extensive use of the soloed double bass.

Our own @Andre_Passini is making an excellent headless tuning system.

Try Rob Wasserman too who released solo (electric) upright bass albums. He used to play with Lou Reed at his best period. And don't forget to listen to this amazing album called Basse contre basse by Alain Caron and Michel Donato, a true delight for the ears. That said Stanley Clarke is a very melodic double bass player, but there's no real solo album dedicated to it. And Christian McBride is worth listening to, just like Esperanza Spalding. If you like some jazz trios, try the extraordinary Esbjörn Svensson Trio and the British excellent Neil Cowley Trio, where double bass is omni present.

Firstly, should you do so, don't buy cheap aftermarket Luminlays, but the originals. Secondly I have these on my two main (sixer fretless) basses and it's working great. I have two original Luminlay torches too, but black light (UV) will charge them as well as cell phone torch and daylight, so I don't think there's any hassle there as it's all quite common including onstage black light. So, to me, the real Luminlays are totally worth it, and avoid the others.

Putting the bass to max is always likely to induce distortion with almost all preamps, and this one is no exception, especially with 18dB of gain at 40 Hz, which is ... way too much. Back it and remember that this preamp is a boost only model even if some iterations have a center detent... To be "flat", the bass and treble should be fully cut, so start sculpting your sound from there and everything will be fine. By the way, it's an excellent bass and don't waste money changing the pickups and preamp for "American" ones, the improvement is really thin (I did it, so no need to do it again).

Takamine TB10 or DB10? What’s the difference?
Hellzero replied to Rob MacKillop's topic in Bass Guitars
Just in case, @Aalin, there's this thread about Leduc basses:
