  1. First series only had the zero at the end, then they slowly started to stamp the year at end.
  2. If you front the rear with back at the front left and mix them using the lateral switch towards the back does it pick up the strings well?
  3. The Jazz Bass pickup is from 1970 and the Precision Bass pickup from 1981 for one half and 1976 for the other. Both are official Fender pickups.
  4. I was indeed mine, bought new, @Smanth, and I truly think that @DanOwens and I are really taking great care of our amps, instruments and everything. It's simply called respect. Hope you'll enjoy this wonderful little box as much as I did. Take care. Cheers, Tony.
  5. So @Billy Bongo what is your budget as it might help a lot for the basses proposals?
  6. I practice a lot totally unplugged, I think you won't find a cheaper alternative. That said I recently bought a brand new Boss Katana 110 Bass combo, mainly because of one function (to first give it a try and then assess) : the 1 Watt output power position to play at very very very low level with a decent sound : it's for my ears when they need to rest (Menière disease and tinnitus related to these not so frequent episodes these days), not the neighbours as we don't really have close ones. Verdict: it sounds really really good at 1 Watt, has plenty of possibilities with it's integrated multi-fx, has a very good headphones preamp (more on that later), is quite light and is fantastic at full power, which made me sell my two AER's... Everyone is offering his best headphones of choice, which is great, but you seem to forget that on cheap (and on most) amps the headphones out is relying on the cheapest opamp the builder could find and this means an awful sound through headphones. That said @Amy Smith seems to have vanished like 99% of the time...
  7. The Phil Jones Briefcase can be battery powered (motorbike battery type) and will give you an excellent sound. https://philjonesbass.net/cms/index.php/product_bbc/ But to my ears the GSS 06B400 Mini Bass Amp with its dedicated 7S35V2 intelligent Lithium battery pack sounds better https://www.guitarsoundsystems.com/gss-06b400-mini-bass-amp-c2x15043753 https://www.guitarsoundsystems.com/gss-7s35v2-intelligent-lithium-battery-pack-for-guitar-sound-systems-mini-bass-amps-c2x18346407
  8. Ampeg SVT-300 + 810 turned all the way up. You won't even hear the police helicopter launching missiles at your window.
  9. These people make excellent restoration decals: https://tlcguitargoods.com/en/finishing/restoration-decals.html?decal_brand=673&decal_model=739 And they can even vectorise your logo: https://tlcguitargoods.com/en/custom/headstock-decals.html
  10. C'est sûr que poser une question en français sur un site anglais, tu vas avoir une réponse à coup sûr... 🤦🏻‍♂️ Il y en a une sur Zikinf, et le modèle haut de gamme à manche traversant sur Le Bon Coin, au cas où.
  11. I did try them @Al Krow and they are really excellent strings especially considering the price. Strangely, the fiver set is deep dire...
  12. It just crossed my mind right now, in fact the iconic bass of the 2000's is ... Wal thanks to Tool. Before that, they were almost binned... But check the prices today and you better buy a Fodera. 🤦🏻‍♂️
  13. To me the early 2000's are related to the use and sometimes abuse of beautiful woods in natural finish or really weird designs like the BassLab, but except Fodera's nothing has really become iconic. These two BassLab designs were presented at the Frankfurter Messe in 2001:
  14. The (now Willcox) Lightwave Saber bass is the only design that jumps instantly to my mind: iconic not sure, distinct for sure. And what has surely been iconic in the 2000's is Fodera basses like the Yin Yang design. This is when they really started to be seen almost everywhere on stage.
  15. Is your question about the strings length as it's not clear? If so, yes you need extra long scale strings intended for at least 36 inches scale basses.
  16. Wot, it's sensible. 🤣 I do like the tone of both, even if I slightly prefer the alder.
  17. Nice bass for sure. And while you're talking about it, a friend of mine was in the same position as you until he found his dream bass too a few years ago, and being a Victor Wooten fan, he just recorded (in fact he's been asked to do so) this a few days ago: Sorry for derailing your thread a bit, but it's still a Fodera Monarch...
  18. These people are using the Dan Erlewine neck jig, which means a frets dressing under real tension of the neck for the exact gauge of strings (you provide). If you change the strings gauge, the setup will change too, but it won't be as perfect as with the original strings gauge. If you always use the exact same strings, it's a great plus to have such a refretting, but they'll need the whole instrument to perform it perfectly...
  19. You can just ship the neck, it's all that's needed. 😉 A new neck might end up being very different from the one you have, and you might not like it. A refretting means you keep the neck and same sensations, without all the previous issues. Most of the time a refretting means a way lower action and no more fret(s) buzz(es), of course, depending on the luthier skills.
  20. Do you put new tyres on your car even if it's an old cheap one, I guess, so why not refretting a bass you like and already customised when rounding the fretboard edges? But get it done by a luthier, and not the friend of friend whose cousin knows a pal who knows someone who might get it done. 😉
