  1. And as I said an infinite number of times, also confirmed by Roger SADOWSKY (and all true luthiers worldwide) in his article that almost nobody seems to have read, an electric instrument is, before all, ... an acoustic instrument.
  2. For those able to read in French, here is Félix SAVART mémoire about strings vibrations and the trapezoidal violin, published in 1894. Don't worry, there are images too : https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/bpt6k9666718w/f351.item The whole Roret Encyclopedia about Luthier is really worth a reading, but I'm afraid that there's no English translation...
  3. Have a talk with Mike TOBIAS then and he'll explain you his wood choices. He's a very friendly guy (at least with me) and always glad to answer your questions (again with me).
  4. Did it explode by now ? I have another name for it : The Flip Flop... I know : Twerp !
  5. Here is the article that summarises all I've ever said about electric instruments for decades. An article by the great Roger Sadowsky : Waiting for the heretics comments...
  6. Yes, I do love these basses !
  7. And here is the link to the official manual : https://peavey.com/manuals/80302039.pdf
  8. Aka Brian Bromberg Signature. 😉 GLWYS.
  9. Don't you have feet with toes way up North ? Or maybe the zoo keeper doesn't allow you to use them ?
  10. Use the bebop double bass player trick : put a very little bit of vaseline behind one ear or both and when you can't slide anymore, just touch the vaseline pellicle with your fingers and you'll play beyond speed limit. This trick is used by Tina Weymouth for long gigs. 😉 That said ears are naturally greasing too, but it's a bit disgusting.
  11. Most of you seem to forget that as the "Luminlays" are activated by UV, simple outdoor light works as well as there are plenty of UV's even without a bright sun. On the other hand, IR don't charge them, so remember that thick glass is a great UV filter, only letting IR through, which means it won't charge behind a double or triple glaze window. 😉
  12. Bought a bass, again, from Victor. And as usual, it was a fast and easy transaction. As it was a partial trade too and that I had no more boxes nor case to ship mine, Vic accepted to send me his bass first and I sent him mine as soon as it arrived. What a pleasure to deal with such a great person. Cheers Vic.
  13. The first quote is from a British sci-fi writer.
  14. By the way, for what kind of birds is it intended @Teebs ?
  15. Indeed, but they are in Appendix II (only controlled woods in this case) and part of an "old" musical instrument, so there's no need for a CITES certificate here. 😉 Check these links : https://cites.org/eng/disc/how.php https://cites.org/eng/app/appendices.php https://www.fws.gov/international/plants/current-cites-listings-of-tree-species.html
  16. Handles ?!? Are you planning to lift it with your band mates living in the carpet ?
  17. I've shipped instruments and hi-fi gear all over the world without any problem, but I've always used a highly trustable courier, fully insured item(s), impeccable paperwork and bullet proof parcel. If the buyer wants to lower the declared value to pay less incoming taxes or change something in this method, my answer is always the same : NO. Your £500 GBP will end up costing him all in all more than $1250 USD...
  18. Heat and humidity affect neck (and body too) stability as it's wood, so adjusting the truss rod is totally normal. And the more seasoned, the less wood will be affected, but this process can take decades if not centuries... Here is a weird true story. To check his guitar building stability and glue strength, Robert Taylor said he always put a guitar in its case in the trunk of his car in plain sun in the desert for a few hours. If it doesn't move, this means that he has attained his goal : a bloody stable and almost indestructible instrument also proving he's using high quality seasoned woods and top notch glue and gluing process.
  19. I did the holes shielding method once on a Jazz Bass, took ages, but it's working as good as a wire soldered. Furthermore, the grounding plate of the pickups will be "earthed" too, so it's more than enough. You should invest in a cheap multimeter, after all, all you need is being able to check continuity, pickups impedance, pots, a few tensions here and there and maybe check a capacitor or diode. It's only a few quids well spent.
