  1. Pure rock and roll goodness there ๐Ÿ˜‹
  2. This is what motivates my preference to using passive, and my comfort in using my P bass as well. Once everything is turned up I feel like all the knobs just 'make' me fiddle with them! The Stingray I previously used really confused me as well, with no centre detents available on the eq knobs I genuinely didn't know where 'normal' was. I guess I'm just trying to avoid being a bass-luddite and want to get the best out of my gear but I suspect I'll probably be keeping the passive mode selected in the long run.
  3. I've a super duper Mayones super Jazz bass. It has an East Uni preamp which can be bypassed. I love this bass. But I've been playing for nearly 30 years, countless different types of basses, and I've come to the conclusion I just don't 'get' active preamps on basses. I think the East preamp is a good one, and the Nordstrand pickups and bass in general is just excellent. But I only run the bass passive because it's just simpler, particularly on gigs. The Uni has got a traditional passive tone control and a blend. This seems to be just fine. So what am I missing out on by not using the active bit? How do you get the most out of using an on board preamp? How not to keep messing around with the variable mid control? I guess what I want to know is how to get the most from this terrific instrument. It has a great natural, passive sound but by not utilising the preamp am I missing out on an even better aspect of it? All tips and opinions appreciated ๐Ÿ‘
  4. Saw him play when he came to Brum last month. He was superb, pure class.
  5. And the missing piece of information from this reanimated zombie thread... Ibanez Precision?๐Ÿ˜‚
  6. Those are absolutely beautiful ๐Ÿ˜
  7. I bought Peter's electric piano today. Great comms, accurately described and a friendly chap to boot. I would not hesitate before doing business with Peter again. Cheers ๐Ÿป
  8. I enjoyed that, thanks for posting ๐Ÿ‘. I really like that raw live sound they got on the Tube, you can really feel the live energy. There was a fantastic episode which featured Go West which blows me away similarly https://youtu.be/iX55-5VKcdQ?si=oM5KSBSgMhrfZCYJ
  9. Some smashing chunky bass playing on this tune I've been hearing on radio 1 lately. Sounds like a classic 5 string Jazz tone to me, compressed with a bit of chorus. Lush! But I've been fooled in the past when it's turned out to be laptop software fakery.
  10. Right, so that is my project over the Xmas hols. Thanks for the tips guys. ๐Ÿ‘
  11. Thanks guys, so in summary the wiring is not sufficiently grounded so if I solder some wire as above that should resolve the hum issues?
  12. Not sure... here is a pic
  13. That's just the angle of the pic I think. Here is another, I think the strip and plate are connected ok.
  14. Thanks for your reply @tauzero Here are a few pics under the bonnet. I've no idea what I'm looking at. All looks tidy enough to my untrained eye but.... what do you think?
  15. Hi BC'ers ๐Ÿ™‚ I've recently taken possession of an early 2000s Japanese 62 reissue Jazz. It sounds great but after many years away from single coil pickups I'm finding the bridge pickup a problem. The neck pickup is silent but the back one hums like hell and touching the strings or bridge actually causes MORE buzz. The control cavity only has the metal plate along the base, as does the pickup cavities. Is a lack of decent shielding the issue here? Both pickup outputs are fine and sound good. I have recorded a video to show what's happening. Any advice for next steps greatly appreciated ๐Ÿ‘ 20241222_182428.mp4
  16. ยฃ450 ONO I bought this kit second hand for my son around 7 years ago and it has never left his bedroom. Bit dusty but it all works. Hardly used over the last year since he did his grade 8. Everything is there including the scaffold/frame thingy, pedals, wires and I'll even throw in a pair of 'relic'd' sticks if it's a deal breaker ๐Ÿ˜‰ Fairly straightforward to assemble with colour coded connections etc. Good enough quality kit to gig with but brilliant for practice as it has all the usual aux inputs etc but has a load of pre loaded tracks to jam along to. Great fun! Collection preferred but happy to discuss delivery within reasonable distance of Erdington, north Birmingham. Cheers ๐Ÿ™‚
  17. Spot on. I've quit my most recent band after 3 years because of this reason. Really talented bunch of people, loved the music, saw various members come and go. But when the singer announced she was off that was it for me. Without a capable front person the band will struggle to connect with the audience no matter how great the music.
  18. Bought a strap from Chewie, exactly as described, great experience and wouldn't hesitate to do business again in the future.
  19. Hi all, I've recent joined a rock covers band and I've finally started using my Sansamp pedal that I bought ages ago. I've been having a play with it at home and and have managed to get a really good raucus Geddy clank that I love from it with my Mayones Jazz bass. I include a pic below which shows the knob settings that I've used to get to this point. The thing is I really don't understand what it all means, terms like 'presence' and 'blend'. Can anyone share how they get the best out of their Sansamp, how to use the settings etc? I've got loads of pedals lying around the house but have never used them in a band setting so I'm in very uncertain territory! Thanks in advance guys.
  20. Oh I like that. Player series are great instruments, I'm starting to get a bit twitchy now I've seen that one. I think the player 2 series have rolled fingerboard edges if I remember rightly....๐Ÿ˜
