Nice, and I've never seen one in that colour before.

Took my 10 year old daughter to see Yungblud (see above) at the O2 Academy in Brum last week. Was her first proper gig and she loved it- he didn't do much for me before we went but I was really impressed by a superb performance and he's a proper showman plus he came across as a nice guy when we met him at the meet and greet beforehand. Anyway, the reason behind the post is that the sound was terrible. The kick drum and bass notes (synth, not bass guitar regrettably) were so loud it made me feel physically ill. Every time the drummer hit the kick or a bass note rang out I felt my chest vibrate. This was the case for all three bands on the bill. Don't get me wrong I like to 'feel' it when I see bands live but this was ridiculous and the loudness of the bass frequencies 'squashed' the rest of the sound. During sections when the bass and kick were silent the rest of the sound was crystal clear and well mixed which leads me to wonder whether it was our position in the room to blame for the sound problem? With the size of bass frequencies was it inevitable that we would be hit full on in the face with bass being sat in the balcony while the punters in the stalls below get a properly mixed sound? We were sat in the front row of the balcony, right in the centre and facing the stage square on. The sound engineer was sat on the level directly below where we were sat (would have loved to go down there and push through the teenage hordes and ask him to "turn it down a bit" 😄).

Fender US Std Jazz 5 string - 2001 ish - any experience?
EJWW replied to Mokl's topic in Bass Guitars
I had a US one new in 2000, was generally quite good but I would agree that the B string was the weakness as it was a bit on the floppy side. -

Such excellent musicianship songs and Jamiroqai were in many ways a mainstream band who were popular and in the charts. I'm not saying there's no decent new music out there any more but what is today's equivalent of Jamiroqai?

Those are supposed to be excellent pickups, nice job!

Anyone seen the yamaha Riki Santamaria custom BB with single humbucker? Seriously sexy looking beast, would make a very worthwhile production instrument IMO

I've a vintage white BB414 which is very good. The fact of the matter is that with the 414 yamaha revived the BB series which had IMO veered away from the classic BB style. The 414 is a great rock bass, it looks sexy and is well made for a great low price. Everything produced since then has been trying to improve aspects that really don't need improving like fancy through body bridge, multi-laminate neck etc. The 2024 should have at least been produced with some exclusive colours to justify the mega price hike over the 1024. Let's face it the 414 should be Yamaha's equivalent of the P bass. They should take a leaf out of Fender's book and don't mess with it!

Is that a BB300 in there Andy?

Another great purchase from John, this time a solderless jazz bass loom. Great value, quick service and happy to offer help and support when needed.

Bought a set of Jazz Bass pickups from Simon recently, everything went smoothly, great chap to do business with and wouldn't hesitate to do so again.

Snap! Picked one up recently of the bay. Lovely looking and very well made Squier.

I no longer have this bass having sold it to a fellow BCer. My overall conclusion hasn't changed although I eventually decided that it was a little too sophisticated for my needs. Very well made and great hardware but surplus to requirements. If you fancy a P bass I would recommend a P bass. In fact I'm mainly playing a Squier CV 60s P bass at the moment and I simply can't fault it: it looks great, not heavy and really powerful pickup. Not felt the need to mod it at all. Several hundred quid less than a second hand BB734A too. Ted

Recently needed small job involving soldering and wiring a tone control. 3 trips to PMT later (don't ask) decided I can't face it again and need to find a new tech for stuff I can't do myself.
