  1. Was tempted to go myself but had prior commitment that night. Glad it was a great gig
  2. Interesting approach... I tend to leave everything flat but, if anything, back off the bass a bit. I can't imagine reducing the bass to zero though
  3. Love these guys' work, really tasty example. GLWTS
  4. This has reignited my GAS which I thought I'd defeated. Damn. Thank god you are so far from Brum otherwise I'd probably crack. GLWTS
  5. Hi all, I recently bought a brand new bass and the frets have a quite rough feel to them. Not the fret ends but the actual surface of the frets. When you fret and bend a string it feels unpleasant and rough. After googling the problem I have come to the conclusion that I should polish the frets. Is this right, before I spend any money on a kit? Thanks in advance for your advice 🙂
  6. Just gave this a watch/listen thanks to this thread and I'm captivated. Wonderful accomplished playing by all but she is wonderful. Thanks for sharing @Jakester
  7. Great price, these entwhistle pickups are meant to be very decent.
  8. That is a sensational looking instrument 😍
  9. Great detailed ad for a super instrument. You might want to remove your personal email and phone number from the ad text though. GLWTS 👍
  10. Which channel?
  11. That looks sensational, great job!
  12. Really, really cool, best colour, great price. GLWTS 👍
  13. What a superb example and a good weight too.
  14. Boy George worked at Oasis Market???
  15. It's unbeatable but in the past I've found giving your existing gear a bit of TLC can help stave it off e.g. give your bass a good clean and polish, new strings, setup etc.
  16. I didn't notice any other Ashdown basses there at all Matt
  17. The scratch plate is actually mint green and there is a sparkle in the pink 🥰
  18. Some positive feedback from my experience with Fairdeal this week. I walked in on my lunch break for a mooch, no intention of buying anything (yeah you've guessed what's about to happen here...) and I noticed that there is a really decent range of basses in stock which is a vast improvement on the last time I visited a while ago. A lovely shell pink Ashdown 'the Grail' Jazz caught my eye and after picking it up, admiring the what appeared to be a roasted neck, light weight (3.8kg) and lovely matching headstock I had a play and decided to buy it. I explained that I was unable to take it home and asked if they could courier it and the assistant told me he would drop it round my house after work. Shortly after I paid for it I checked the website and it correctly indicated that the bass was now sold out so they are clearly on top of inventory control. It arrived in a lovely blue Ashdown padded gig bag perfectly set up, only 1/8 turn of truss rod required. Top marks for customer service and attention to detail. I think it is worth highlighting these positive music shop experiences as bricks and mortar can't be an easy selling format these days but I am lucky to live in a city with no fewer that 3 substantial guitar shops plus Bass Direct and Bass Bros less than an hour's drive away. p.s. I am not connected to Fairdeal in any way, just a happy customer 🙂
  19. Lovely top on that 👌
  20. I've been using mine for a year or two and have had no problems whatsoever.
  21. 1025x.
  22. I am stepping down from my position as bassist in a long established and busy covers band based around North Birmingham. It is a 5 piece band comprising guitar, bass, drums, keys and vox and play a set of well known tunes in the genres of rock, pop, reggae and ska. Average 2 gigs a month booked up to 1 year in advance working around band members' holidays etc. Mostly pubs with a few festivals and the occasional private function thrown in as well. The energy of the band is incredible and although all members are in their 50s they bounce around like mad things and smash it every single night. I am stepping down on good terms and remain mates but the reason is I'm getting exhausted trying to hold down a shift work job, young family, and the band, and something has got to give. I would say being a reliable and easygoing team player is the most important quality of a potential new member as the set is quite straight forward bassline-wise and you will obviously need your own gear and transport although the band does have a van and we often travel together where possible. In summary: a well organised lovely bunch of guys who do it for the love of it. This is a great opportunity for someone. Please PM me for more info. Cheers.
  23. These particular BBs really do look cool and sound great. Love the matching head stock. A fine rock bass for very little dosh.
