So, bought a B-Stock one of these at the beginning of the year. Love it. however Since I owned it, the head rattles with certain frequencies, and it doesn’t matter what volume. I’m fact, it gets worse the louder it gets. I have already sent it back because the fans developed a fault, that’s sorted but the bastarding rattle is still there (even though I mentioned this when returning it) I have had the amp out the sleeve, and I think I can trace it to the 2 cooling radiator type structures behind the fans. Does anyone else who owns these experience the same? I can’t handle amps or cabs that have mechanical noise 😫

Yep, fantastic underated UK made Valve amps. I had one, sold it then bought another as I missed it! Now one of my main amps. Super high end stuff, but people seem put off by the brand which is a bit crazy considering their pedigree. Quite a modern take on the standard big valve heads.

I can only hope, had mine for over 25 years now old due to overloud drums and guitars in tiny inappropriate practice rooms as a teenager. Just have kind of learned to live with it. Nice high pitched whine with a subtle lower octave that adds a bit of colour. Anyone else get the random pitch shift that pops up now and then and lasts a few seconds? 😂

Great, thanks!

I have this preamp on 2 of my basses. Both running with EMG pickups. I have just bought a new bass which has EMG pickups but a passive tone control knob instead of the 2 band EQ stack on the BTC system. Does anyone know if you can replace the passive tone knob with the BTC pot or do you have to replace the whole control system?

A good bass into a good amp. Nothing else needed IMO!

“Robust rebuttals”. Cool. The first two responses don’t read that way at all. They read like a classic forum rats response to a chap just reaching out for a chat. Anyway. Apologies for the perceived calling out. Amps and basses rule. -

Top bully work there @Beedster and @fretmeister backed up nicely by a mod. Feels a bit like the “other” thread. Nice balanced view from @Lozz196 and @la bam -
Really? OP asked who’s using Valve amps. People responding clearly are regardless is weight or price. It’s a choice some take as they may have found other options wanting. They are heavy, they are expensive, but as long as I can lift one, dear god nothing comes close.

If weight and cost come into the conversation, then this isn’t the thread for you bud 😉

Simple Really, Laney Nexus Tube. Modern balanced DI and versatile as F***. Old, new and everything inbetween. Gigged and loved by sound men universally. Good luck finding one though. oh and an ABM600 as a back up or for A fun alternative doesn’t hurt 😂

Rehearsing in a poorly ventilated room
jimmy23cricket replied to burno70's topic in General Discussion
This is the exact reason we stopped using our rehearsal studio! It just didn't seem sensible to go into a sealed room not knowing how many people had used it prior to you. -
It’s finally been released! http://test.schecterguitars.com/bass/exotic-basses/p-4-exotic-detail

The HD series were only released in 2017, so you may have had the original (silver grill) on which I think were branded as simply Hydrive 112? I personally quite like the 112’s. Still have 2 and they are quite well thought of in some circles.

Still pretty well respected in the US (according to TB at least!) it’s the poor aftercare by Hal Leonard in Europe that I feel is a massive contributing factor here. still feel there last decent products were the hydrive cabs. Amp wise, not much has lit up since the HA stuff 😞

Decided to part with this lovely little valve head. I'm a bit sad, but I always said 3 amps are too many and I need to fund a five string. Fantastic heads. Great valve tone that breaks up nicely to a lovely valve grit when cranked without disemboweling you. This is in almost new condition. Has the tiniest scuff which I have pictured, but otherwise like new. Also has a snazzy matching Roqsolid cover. Really would like pick up. Could drop off if within reasonable distance. Really don't want to post just in case it gets ruined. Cheers!

I have a CTM 30 tweed (same beast really) and I tend to start here, then tweak down a touch as required (usually not required 😂)

I feel then that the best thing to do is go to a good bass shop and try try try! Unfortunately, everyone on here will have a different idea of “perfect”. For your budget, you could find what you like and then pretty much either get it, or shop around for a good second hand one.

Sorry, am I missing something here. Budget of 3 to 5 grand!?! surely if you’re fussy, it’s custom build all the way! 😂

Hi Folks Got a new one of these a couple of months back. Think it is quite possible one of best sounding amps I’ve tried....but I have noticed the ground noise is a bit higher due to the dual fans. However, attached to a 6x10 cab last night it there was a loud noticeable hum at higher volumes. Its definitely linked to the output master volume in that it gets louder when the knob goes up past 12’ o clock. anyway, after those with experience with these. Do you find yours operating with more “hum” then other amps you’ve tried? Thanks
