[/quote] If a Framus sunburst is one where the wood grain shows through the yellow then you will have to strip the paint back to the wood. The 'yellow' of many sunbursts is not usually a solid colour. If a quick fix is required I would suggest flattening the existing coat and overspraying with a can of Plastikote enamel. As your base colour is black, choose a colour that works over black e.g. solid red. If you [i]really[/i] want a burst, take it to a specialist. It's not as easy as one might think.

    The long-established Czech manufacturer Furch produces a line once known as 'Stonebridge' and now renamed - er - Furch. Mate of mine had one, solid body (IIRC) and a laminate neck (def). Sounded nice and played well, strummed or finger-picked. Tangentially, I once spent half an hour with a (£700-ish new) Martin DRS1 - Mex factory, sapele body, laminate neck. It compared embarrassingly well with a neighbouring D18. If the smaller bodied Martins in this series are of comparable quality, I'd be checking those out - fair number around, too.

But as m'learned friend Betafunk points out, the instrument was targeted not at bassists but at guitarists, Possibly because they were (and are) greater in number and also presumably because they were considered to be less 'stick in the mud' than their low-end chums. The fact that bass players have stuck religiously to his product for 60 glorious years would seem to bear that out Mr Fender was a man who relied extensively on customer feedback and rarely passed up a new opportunity. If there had been a demand for fretless basses, he would assuredly have exploited it. As for his marketing advisor at the time of the launch, this would have been Mr Don Randall whose job (in addition to selling) was to write the ads, man the show stands and come up with the product names. His input into product development would have been much attenuated by comparison to modern marketing people.

    [b]1990's Danelectro 56 U2 £115 Collected [/b] Ungigged from a smoke-free home, this is an original Korean re-issue in ‘Limo Black’ and one of the first imported when the brand was rebooted back in the 90’s. Considered by many to be the most sonically accurate of the Dan RI’s, this one has the correct headstock shape, the wooden bridge saddle, dual concentric pots and the (correct) lower output lipstick pickups. The pup selector switch is authentically intermittent in function but always lets a signal through. A nice easy player which goes from a pleasing chime to a garage-y roar depending on your amp / settings. Cosmetically excellent for a (nearly) 20 year old guitar. To circumvent the well-known ‘bridge collapse’ scenario I’ve applied the Dan Erlewine fix (a round headed screw in the right place) and also shimmed the neck for a teeny touch of back angle. No case but a (Gibson-logo’d) gig bag can be supplied for a fiver.     [b]Dunlop heavy brass slide – wide for 3rd finger. Unused - £8 posted[/b] Indulge your inner Blind Lemon Chitlin’ with this heavy brass slide, all shiny and new. I stupidly bought it without noticing it’s a wide fitting for the third finger. I use my little finger for slide so it’s back in the package for this quality doo-dad.

    [b]Gibson original ‘Chainsaw’ Les Paul guitar case £65 collected[/b] Very clean example of this desirably rare hard-shell case to fit Gibson Les Pauls. 1980’s second generation version with the big logo. Latches all work fine; no keys. Back in the 80’s people used to throw these things out of windows to prove how tough and protective they were. Nowadays, Gibson fanboys flame each other about the iterations and get all excited when one comes up for sale. It’s a [i]very[/i] solid guitar case, people. Cash on collection from BA15 or (subject to agreement) will meet or will deliver within 100 miles of BA15
