1. Ta for that, Ou7shined Now to find one...
 2. I've been toying with the idea of a Sub Sterling (Jazz neck lover, y'see). Any views on how it compares soundwise to the Ray-type Sub?
 3.
Or maybe this one...
Funnily enough, that's me on the far left! 'Scandinavians' was actually 4 Brits and a Rhodesian. This guy I knew called Barry Mucas had worked the rigs and heard about the Scandinavian dance band market. Barry wasn't clever, but he was sharp and he could smell a quid a mile away. He roped me and some other guys in and we knocked up a 4 hr set in about a week. For maximum appeal in the Scandinavian market, we decided to call the band 'Scandinavians'. Barry said it would help us to fit in. We bought some secondhand red Danish wedding suits - see above - from Lord John's shop just off Golden Square in the West End and piled off over to Goteborg in a Luton van, sometime in 1974 IIRC. No-one spoke any of the languages. So when we were in Sweden we pretended to be Norwegian. When we were in Norway, we pretended to be Finnish. We didn't go to Finland, but if we had, I think we agreed we'd pretend to be Latvian. Worked a treat, though we got some funny looks. We did about 40 or 50 really well-paid gigs, then 'Beardy' Brian the drummer got into one with some Swedish bikers. They bayonetted his head to the door of a disco in Malmo and the rest of us had to leave a bit hurriedly. It's actually referred to in Hugh Cornwell's autobiography. Great days.
 4. An amp tech told me about one of his customers who'd owned a 60's Ampeg B15 fliptop - valve job. It broke down, so this guy took it down the tip. This was 3 years ago
 5.
Bible basher, ... etc ... The term alludes to a preacher thumping his hand hard down on the Bible to emphasize a point during a sermon.
Bishop basher. (Noun): The term alludes to a person thumping his hand down on a Bishop to emphasise his disagreement during a sermon.
 6.
If I recall it correctly, didn't the Rev.Green give Tony Goggle a fearful kicking outside a Starbucks many years ago in an argument over a tin of pineapple chunks?
True, though Goggle claims that Green - crazed on his own 'product' - cold-cocked him on the blindside during the fateful transaction. Once more proving this evil, chunky fruit is more than just a commodity to be carried to and from Hawaii. Pineapple? Just say no, kids.
 7.
Whoops, just read Mr Skank's posting, sorry, not plagerising.
Not at all, my friend. It goes to prove the point. Non-existent annoying tw*t singers are a widespread problem.
I'd be careful. I reckon that Al Green can handle himself.
Take him easy. The late Tiny Tim gave Al a ferocious leathering at Woodstock when Al laughed at Tim's ukueueuelele. Tim got a BJ from Grace Slick off the back of that. Al went home in an ambulance and turned to God.
 8. I'm not in a band at the moment. But if I was I'd be slapping the singer for forgetting where the bridge goes in 'Take Me to the River'. What a cock. So I'm leaving. What do you think?
 9.
Band practice tonight, so i think i'll have to bring it up.
So you don't get sidetracked into irrelevancies, print out your OP / list of issues and take it with you. And a selection of some of the choicer comments from this thread. Should do the trick.
 10.
introduced to the umbrella
Y'know, I'd almost succeeded in forgetting that experience. 25 years effort wasted. Thanks a bundle
 11.
When we brought it up he said "if someone wants to say something they should get a mic."
There's your problem. Talentless, late, won't score gigs and a smart-arse Either you leave; or you leave with the drummer; or you find a new singer. Imagine the joy that will pulse through your soul when you completely fire this ****wit.
 12. Recycling old threads is a commendably 'green' approach. But I agree with Silddx that there seems to be an intermittent fault in the 'fire and conviction' supply. Perhaps it's time for a provocative OT thread about 'content sag'?
 13.
just missed mark king by about 5 mins one saturday !
By strange coincidence, I once missed Mark King by about 3 inches and decked his mate by accident. Musical exchanges was good, I agree. Mostly s/h gear and they'd offer you a mug of splosh then leave you alone
 14. Bob Thanks for clarifying the CD issue. Bootlegs, traders, etc - it all makes perfect sense now.
 15. Message received and fair enough. That said - a general music CD is a 'non-musical item'?
 16.
beer ... sausages ... Jazz Bass ... jazz, reggae, funk and "rock" ... enjoy playing simple basslines as much as the most technical ones
Welcome Chloe - you're going to fit in really well here
 17. The only man for me is Tony Goggle. Fiery lines underpinned by a scalding technique, encyclopedic chops and a nice party-piece of On > Offstage projectile vomiting.
 18. Hi Mike and welcome
feel more at home with UK humour than the 'vibe' at TB
You old flatterer Hope you enjoy the forum.
 19. About 30 years ago, my mate Ken had a job driving a van. His helper was Gary Numan. One day young Gary handed him a bedroom tape he'd done, which was a sort of re-written cop of Ziggy Stardust. IIRC, Ken - no mean guitarist - reckoned it was OK-ish but told Gary would get more work if he did a covers band.
 20. Bought Joe's JM37 condenser mic. Smooth transaction, mic shipped quickly and beautifully packed. A very nice man, reliable and easy to deal with. A credit to our community.
 21. FWIW, my mate just took delivery of the Telecaster. The design cues are all lifted straight from a 70's Tele - abbreviated upper front bout, fat neck, two butterfly string retainers, six saddle bridge, protruding string ferrules. Surely this can be no coincidence ? Bad: * Loose neck pocket * Crack in the neck pocket * Small wood knots visible in neck * Neck shimming required * Stiff pots * Rusty marks on frets (came off with some elbow grease) * Utterly useless neck pick-up * Immovable bridge pick-up - the adjustment screws stripped instantaneously * Tone pot does nothing until the last mm Good: * Nice neck shape * Tuners work OK * Gnarly little bridge pick-up * Light, resonant body * Scratchplate to Squier dimensions * OK strap buttons / Pot knobs * Verdict: OK platform for pimping - basically a Friday afternoon Affinity. For £60, a bit of a bargain. But a beginner would need to spend another at least £50 or so to get it up to scratch.
 22. So let me get this straight. Your function band auditioned a tattoed 18 year old French Goth called Alice who arrived with a doting Papa but no sticks? She lacked the basic skill of timekeeping. You helped her out with some constructive advice and she blew a pert French raspberry at you. How could this ever have gone well? Pour yourself a long one and take the rest of the night off
 23.
He's a BCer i think, same username.
Indeed. Tonyxtiger has put up a number of interesting pieces in FS.
