1. Tal? Rhonda? Nah. I'd rather see him back and partnered up with Ron 'Evil Goblin King' Wood.
2.
I don't know about a caption but only an American would wear those pants
Trousers, if you please. We're not in Kansas anymore. But who is that scrumptious piece of man-candy stood next to Mr Fender? Have him brought to my dressing-room for oysters and pink champagne on ice.
3. Hi Dazza14 and welcome Just to help, some useful search keywords in the repairs and technical issues subforum - http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showforum=12 - might include: re-finish / refinish / respray / poly / polyester / polyurethane / nitro / nitrocellulose / sanding / wire wool If necessary, use advanced search to restrict your query to thread titles only. Hope you enjoy the forum
4.
im just a youngster
H'mmm, I may have to report this particularly dubious claim. At your age (25-ish per your profile?) a fair proportion of the BC membership would be calling you 'Grandad'.
5. I don't know why the thread has taken this direction, but it should not have. If one actually reads Jimi's listing, he's upfront about the bass's condition, with pictures of any defects. He also supplies contact details beyond those required by ebay. On request, he has supplied further images to another member here. He's opening at a £1k with a BIN of £1500, which in my opinion, is a fair price, all things considered. Observing the overheated nature of the US pick-up market, £1k+ for a set of 76 T-bird electrics seems a perfectly reasonable valuation to me. So, in my opinion, there's absolutely nothing about Jimi's listing that should occasion concern or suspicion. There are plenty of con-artists on ebay and BC has exposed a fair few of them. But the danger with dissecting ebay listings is that one doesn't always know that the seller may be a perfectly well-respected member of this forum with nothing to hide. And this is not the first time. Some may think Jimi's reaction a tad over-cooked. Not so. He was subject to an unjustified, unsubstantiated slagging from some different folks on here some time ago and I completely understand his sensitivity on such issues.
6. Opinion has it that, for optimal technical delivery, one should hang the bass to match the position it occupies when you're sitting practising. Problem with low slinging - back issues for the elderly apart - is the fretting hand wrist angle; too narrow and - whoops! - here comes the ol' carpal tunnel syndrome. Given that Gibson have come up with robot tuners, I'm sure the same principle could be applied to strap buttons. Flick a switch and - Hey Presto! - the bass whirrs downwards eighteen inches and assumes the 'cool' position. Cue audience sensation, beautiful women fainting, etc.
7. Ring (do not email, they won't answer) Allparts UK and ask them what they've got. Some people hate them, but they've always seen me right. http://www.allparts.uk.com

Hello

Hi Phil and welcome Yes, that old 'For sale' forum - gets us all in the end Hope you enjoy yourself here.
9. Hi Pete and welcome That's tasty old bass history you've got there - all the good ones! Trust you're enjoying Sweden and its musical delights. Hope you enjoy the forum.
10. Hi Mike and welcome That's a nice pair of 'off the beaten track' basses you've got there. Most people round here play Fenders or coffee tables. You will undoubtedly bring some cosmopolitan panache to BC. Hope you enjoy the forum and get the answers you need.
11.
And then takes up celibacy - man, that must really hurt!!
Apparently, Cliff was curious.
12. I can't think of any retailer - guitar or otherwise - where one is guaranteed of satisfaction. But in the field of vintage guitars / basses, the phrase 'Caveat Emptor' is highly applicable. A swift search of the site will reveal a host of retailer threads, many of which name the guilty. I've had reasonable results with Guitar Village, V&R and Angel, but others on BC have not. By the same token, there are some stores I'd never visit again that get good reports here. So results can be variable. Same as with car dealers. Whoever the retailer, it's always a battle of wits with someone who'll do almost anything to get your money. If the buyer does some deep research, sets a price limit in their mind and applies simple rules of negotiation - open sensibly, haggle back up in small increments - then they won't go far wrong. And patience is a virtue. If doubtful, it's always better to walk away and wait for the next one. Now if I could only listen to my own advice...
13. Supported, among many others, by Wayne Kramer (MC5) and Tom Morello. Yay! ... But not Gene Simmons: "I am a firm believer in capitalism. If you don't like a workplace, you can go to another one" Funny how you never see the diminutive, stack-heeled, blood-spitting buffoon and Lord Tebbit in the same room.
14.
He took the bass guitar 'out of the shadows'...
Is that the well-documented occasion in 1962 when he left the band in a fearful strop, taking his instrument with him?
15.
Fede was looking at it on the Italian ebay site; here's the same (sold ) item on UK.
Except I had a look at that and it now reads closed with no bidders.... A mystery wrapped inside an enigma wrapped inside a Milky Bar.
16. Oil off your nose. Contains squalene, a chemical which, in non-plant form, can only otherwise be found in a sharks liver. The old astronomers used nose oil to polish lenses and watch menders use it to lubricate movements. Watch movements, that is.
17. Howard supplied me with a tort scratchplate. Bargain price for a quality bit of kit, posted like lightning in full-on 'bunker-grade' packaging. And he's a very nice man too.
18.
only 31 viewers and only one offer!
I've always wondered where it shows how many people are watching an item ... can anyone tell me?
19.
Did several gigs before Christmas with a band who played Easy Livin'. Funnily enough, their whole set consisted of UH songs. They sounded pretty authentic to me. There was some geezer called Mick Box playing guitar.
Worthy we are not.
20. Have a "I've had some nice holidays in Mittenwald" bump.
21. FWIW, I've recently heard that using wood cut from the top of the tree will make a difference in a good way. That wood which resides at the bottom will have had the weight of the tree bearing on it, thus compressing it. This renders the wood more dense and thus more 'inert', resulting in a warmer (or duller) tone. True? More voodoo? Who can say. Either way, anyone who's heard a Dan Armstrong acrylic-bodied bass will recognise that there ain't that much difference in tone between that and an all wood bass. Logically, wood type must affect your core tone. But, IMO, for the marginal difference is all but submerged by the succeeding elements in the signal chain.
22.
Hi, what is the right price?
Ghost Rider wrote:
I have had a few PM's about the price. Its £475 or I'd like the trade it for a marcus miller jazz bass 4 string. I have limited internet so I'll get back to fellow BassChatters as soon as I can. Trying before buying is fine. Cheers, Anth.
