Hi Luke and welcome That's just about the classic-est evolution. Glad you're enjoying the Modulus. Also pleased to hear you're joining the ranks of the "oh, alright, just one more bass" brigade. As for opinions on BC - bring your sou'wester - they're coming down like stair-rods. Hope you enjoy the forum.

Alan Lancaster. He never gets mentioned anywhere. Ever.

BAND WITH ALBUM AND AGENT LOOKING FOR BASS PLAYER
skankdelvar replied to cuvintdelage's topic in Musicians Wanted
Maybe it's Germany's answer to Busted. Interesting if you put the username through an anagram server. Me to a T. -
Bottle your sweat and sell it as 'pole-piece relicing fluid' at a tenner a time. This time next year, we'll be millionaires.

How many strings on a standard bass guitar?
skankdelvar replied to JimBobTTD's topic in General Discussion
I only use 3 of the available four strings anyhow. Were it not for neck / tension issues, I'd dispense with the D string altogether. End of. -
Hi casaluigi and a (belated) welcome That's a fair old workload - circa 1000 gigs in 7 years. That's about one every two and a half days? No wonder you took six months off to have a drink or two. Let's see - effects and how to use them / breaking out of 'rut' patterns / tone for slap / general tone sculpting - I'm sure there are loads of threads here that will fit .... Hope you enjoy the forum!
Any idea if it would be ok to buy the paint and clear coat from this site in the uk? because it's a bit dodgy buying chemicals over the net.
Indeed. Most US companies won't ship flammables outside the US. Reranch products are sold in this country by Manchester Guitartech: http://www.manchesterguitartech.co.uk/lacquer.html Just puts his own sticky label on the can. I've had stuff off him - no probs.

I've had feasible results with a similarly stupid-cheap Behringer CS100. Slight bottom end loss, but that's not a huge issue for me. BLE would probably be better. YMMV.

Good general stuff and also useful if you're thinking about nitro finishes: http://www.reranch.com/basics.htm

TO GO: The Bill Wyman Bumper Book Of Root Notes
skankdelvar replied to Zombywoof's topic in Completed Items
Chapter 8 - H - The "Secret" Root Note One night in 1967 I finished off a threesome with Julie Andrews and the Transport Minister, Barbara Castle and headed off to Kingsway Studios in London's glamorous West End. As soon as I walked in, I knew we had a problem. Keith was rolling around on the floor, foam spewing from his mouth and his eyes bulging from his head. Andrew Loog Oldham, our manager, was at a complete loss. "Bill! Bill! Thank God you're here! Keith's going cold turkey!" I couldn't even see any chicken in the room, let alone turkey, so none of this made any sense to me. Keith raised himself on one arm and peered at us with unfocussed, venomous hatred. "I need H. Give me some H, you bastards!" I immediately saw the nature of the problem. Strapping on my custom 'Wyman' bass, I quickly tuned the G string up a tone and played it over and over. "There you go, Keith" I soothed. "An H note. One above G." I'd saved the day and Keith was suitably grateful. "Who the f**k's making that f***ing awful noise?" he screamed as Tony Sanchez rammed a needle into his chest. "And who's that **** playing my bass?" Some people ask me if I really slept with over three thousand women. It's true. According to my diary, it was the 29th May, 1965.
-
I'm not in any band at the moment, but if I were, I'd be loving the music. But they'd also be a pack of timewasting incompetent egotistical bastards. Law of averages. Mine has not been a happy musical life. Paypal me a tenner and cheer me up.
Boy do I feel dumb.
Hey, no worries. The general charm of your intro more than compensates for a tiny vernacular solecism. And the world's a funny place. FWIW, in Hungary, you begin and end phone conversations with "Hallo". So: "Lovely talking to you, must be going now. Hallo." Confused me a few times.
it's a great place to play but .... think .... folk club environment ... you'll hear a pin drop as soon as the lights go down .... I thought the owner to be a prick ..... It's in the middle of f***ing no-where so if your telling people to go and see you make sure they have good directions.
Reading between the lines, it sounds fantastic.

Hi Thump Boy and welcome 'Smart and friendly', eh? You know how to make a good impression, you flatterer, you. As for the crush on Zoe - there are two things you should know. 1) You get her back home here by 10PM at the latest. 2) She's got 6,970 big brothers on BC who'll make sure you do.

TO GO: The Bill Wyman Bumper Book Of Root Notes
skankdelvar replied to Zombywoof's topic in Completed Items
I've got a copy somewhere. Here's an extract from the opening chapter:
It was 1964 and we'd just scored the triumph of getting our next Number 1 in before the Beatles. I was feeling pretty good at rehearsals one day so I turned to Keith and said how well I thought things were going. Keith looked at me and frowned. "Who are you?" he asked. I thought he was joking and whipped back with: "I'm Sir Stafford Cripps, Chancellor of The Exchequer" "No, really, " he muttered. "Who are you?" I couldn't believe my ears. He must have been on drugs, I thought. "I'm Bill. Bill Wyman" I replied, "You know, the bass player." Keith looked worried and called over to Tony Sanchez, his dealer. "Tony! Tony! Who's this bloke? What's he doing here? Who let him in?" Tony just shook his head and looked enquiringly at the rest of the guys. Mick, Charlie, Brian and Stu all looked blankly back at me. Amazingly, none of them had ever known I was there. Which explained why they'd never spoken to me. Ever. That night, I told my wife Astrid what had happened. "Who are you?" she quipped "No, really. What are you doing in my house? I'm calling the police." From that day on for the next 22 years, no-one in the Stones ever spoke to me again. It was at this point, I decided my real ambition in life was to only ever play three notes per song, own a mediocre burger bar and release a single called 'Si! Si! Je suis un Rockstar'. Which I did.
-

A few years ago I babbled all over Johnny Spence (The Pirates) about how I'd followed them since 1978 and that my ongoing love of playing revved-up rockabilly was down to him. "That's nice," he said and moved quickly away.
No I've not been warned of the For Sale section, does this warning come in the form of 'beware duff gear' or 'beware bankruptcy'?
Bankruptcy. Obsession. Addiction. Divorce. Welcome .... to the UK's leading cause of bass GAS.

Hi James and welcome You've opened a can of worms with that Shergold. Some of the folks here have a severe Jones for that old 70's gear - and money has been known to change hands. Don't be surprised if you find some odd-looking men hanging around outside your house... Enjoy the forum!

By the time I've added in the fuel bill I could buy one off the web, thus de-bargaining this one. B******s.

Unless it's mission-critical riff whose absence would noticeably alter the song, I roll my own.
I'm 36 in a few weeks and I thought I had probably left it too late to have any hopes of being in a band, but maybe it is still a possibility.
If you want to be in a band, then it's a probability. 36 is no age at all.
