2.
.. Schallers come a very close second, just be wary that you need to use threadlock on the nut to secure it 100% as depending on strap thickness, there's not alot of turns left, and that the screws that Schaller use are ever so slightly thinner and shorter than Fender's at the very least.
+1 Even though I use Schallers, I readily concede this point. Def need to get the old spanner out to ensure full-whack tightness. And every Schaller screw should come with a cocktail stick to shove in the hole. So much for Teutonic Thoroughness.
3. There's no shame in using car paint. Fender used Dupont automotive spray for their custom colours throughout the fifties and beyond. But car nitro can craze if the guitar's exposed to a very sudden shift in temperature. Which is why some 'relicers' shove a nitro'd body into the freezer for a few hours, then whip it out and stick it in front of the fire.
4. Nasty cab; depending on mfr / type the speaker itself may be worth salvaging. But probably not.
5. Strap locks - I like Schallers, but other BC-ers may differ... http://www.schaller-guitarparts.de - see 'security locks'
6.
you might be suprised at how much difference it makes to your ears, but how little difference it makes to your hands!
+100% - it's like taking a blanket off your rig. A worthy post, Sir.
7.
It's probably way out of my league , but no harm in asking. Anyone found anywhere that sells a range of Crafter Basses?
http://www.gitarinn.is/bassar_crafter-cruiser.htm It's an Icelandic shop. No 5, but the 4 string centaur is a crippling 64,900 Icelandic Krone. Or, currency converted, a rather more cost-effective £307!! Crafter and their better known, even less expensive sister brand, Cruiser, are relatively inexpensive instruments, so should be within your reach.
8. ...a 7 string baritone? The work of The Devil. I've decided - I want a Bass V re-issue. Even though they haven't done one yet... (waits for other shoe to drop).
9. For dancing /listening - not playing.... Junior Walker & The All-Stars - Roadrunner Isaac Hayes - Shaft
10.
All I want to say is there's a place in the world for widdly bass playing and that's all I want to say.
11.
I think having "active" and "passive" inputs can be slightly confusing. It really should just be like on my bass amp which has "high gain" (That would be "passive" on yours) and "low gain" inputs. Y'know, i don't think people should have to be spoonfed everything, i think we have a right to choose what sort of input is sutiable for our bass!
Indeed. BC Says No to input Fascism!
12. Played slung round yer neck like a normal bass. Maybe the guy's confusing it with this...the Ampeg Bass Baby from 1961 - 62, IIRC
13. As a 'meat and two veg' root note plodder, I sincerely admire advanced technical skills and the hard work that went into developing them, without actually wanting to do it myself. But I'm happy that some people like listening to bass gymnastics. While recognising that the opportunities to demonstrate such accomplishments are limited in those forms of music targeting the mass market, I see a useful trickle-down effect. There is, IMO, currently a greater scope for the Bass-Zilla approach within certain genres of music, which, whether by coincidence or not, tend to enjoy a more selective appeal. So I plod, others shred and everybody's happy.
14. Many with 'proper' headstocks. Lawsuit imminent?
15. bandmix, joinmyband, formingbands ... all worked for me at one time or another...

Hi

Hi and welcome to the forum There's a few guys down in Bristol - Mr Foxen, JoeGarcia - they might know someone - and you could always check out the tuition section, maybe post a request there. May your ascent to greatness be swift and painless.
17. Thanks for spotting that! Awww! Poor old bass. Beyond my talents to fix...
18. Hi there and welcome Lots of good stuff for sale here and a useful 'feedback' section. Enjoy!
19. Even more so than bass guitar, the whole home recording thing is chock full of confusion, questionable manufacturer claims, well-meant voodoo and varying mileage. All of which increases the mind-f*ck and condemns you to months of Web-bage when you could be knocking out some tunes. I'd recommend you start with the simplest of entry-level gear - both software and hardware - so you can actually get some songs down. After a bit, you'll have hands-on understanding that'll highlight which areas of limitation (track-count, system stability under pressure, mic quality, acoustic environment) are most relevant to your objectives. Thus you can scale your 'Stage 2' accordingly. In certain instances, projects are migrate-able, so time spent creating stuff on an entry-level platform is not necessarily wasted.
20. Is it my eyes or a Shergold characteristic? The e string looks a bit too close to the edge of the fingerboard?
21. DI-ing works great for electric instruments - but the biggest problem I had when using a mic for acoustic gtr and vox was my acoustic environment. Nasty short room reverb, external house and street noise, fan noise. Once you dip your toe and decide you're going to follow it up, getting some acoustic treatment materials is a really worthwhile move.
22. OK, I have to ask the question, silly though it may seem. Aren't most PB's SC? Is it a manufacturer designation?
23. Sorry for all this, guys! The sentence should have read:
And a whole lot prettier than the Bass Five that Fender also knocked out. Funny how neither has cropped up as a re-issue.
Which, as they re-issued the 6, means Bottom-endian had it right, yet so did Buzz I , on the other hand, conveyed inaccurate information in a poorly constructed and confusing sentence! ...and apologies to the OP for the accidental thread derailment.
24. Before they'd invented the term GAS, I was suffering for one of these in the 70's. Antoria had a really good rep at the time. And now, of course, they're just re-launched the brand-name...
