Fender bass V - tuned EADGC. The 5-string as we know it today has a low B and Fender had nothing to do with it.
Apart from producing a 5 string bass (tuned EADGC).
The Bass 6 was tuned an octave lower than a guitar to cater for Nashville Tic Tac - not intended to play bass at all. Again the standard 6-string as it is today is tuned BEADGC and was an initial idea between Carl Thompson and Anthony Jackson. These have nothing whatsoever to do with what was developed later (and were both resounding flops). Just for accuracy...
Sure - no possibility whatsoever that a six string Bass VI might have any had any influence at all on the idea of a six string bass. And of course, nobody played bass lines on a Bass VI. Oh, apart from those damned annoying tic-tac basslines. Edit for: Oh, he's gone. As regards the OP, I'm all up for a Dallas Tuxedo bass.

Sorry mate never heard of them...try Bassassin. He is the font of all things Jap. (Assume these are Jap?)
Fender didn't make a 5 (used by plenty of pros all over the world) until years after other manufacturers had thought of it, designed it and perfected it. .....This year Fender unveils their first ever 6-string - the Steve Bailey - perhaps one of the ugliest Fenders ever made.
Sorry, but just in the pursuit of accuracy... Fender Bass V - introduced 1965 Fender Bass VI - introduced 1961 Perhaps the ugliest Fenders ever made, particularly the 5, which looks like a CBS parts-bin special. But at least they were still innovating.
Audacity will work with mp3s. I've not come across any other way of isolating the bass other than using EQ, but if anybody knows of one I'd like to hear about it as well.
Me too. Whoo - MP3's made out of stem mixes - now there's an idea...

Hey, Max, are you Emily? Is it a ..er... weekend thing? Y'know, stillettos, fishnets? Good luck with the sale - nice gear, nice opening prices. -
Has the world gone mad? PeteB's shifting a Big Ben for £50, and now this for BIN £55.00? Just for once, you almost feel like telling the guy to pull it and re-list. Almost.
I know the Ibanez Musicians were from the same factory - didn't realise they were so similar till I saw this ! Bear in mind I swapped my MC900 for a Musicman Stingray (and the offer was made to me) - these are very well made instruments and for £150 this is crazy.
Crisp tenner in the post, usual deniability... -
I was told at the time that it was "a poor mans Aria".... I'd be interested to know if these are worth anything .....
Ooooh, at least in excess of £150, being as it's a "Rich Man's ..er...something". I note yours has the standard (?) rather tasteful scroll V, with the Vantage name along the headstock. Mine just has the name across the headstock. Mine's probably a rare example made by the legendary monopedal luthier Hiro 'Leggy' Yamamoto and all the more valuable for that -
I smell something fishy here...
From his telephone number, I can see that he only lives in Wallasey, which is quite close to me. I have a slight SUSPICion who this no Moscow no is. Don't mention the war.
Is it Lavrenti Beria? Olga Korbut? Leon Trotsky? I'm sorry, it's all too cryptic for me. I can't even do a junior crossword... -
Skank, am trying to PM you but it says you can't receive. Sort it out before the cake gets finished!
It's a commitment issues thing. But I don't know why I can't 'receive' messages. Probably the voices in my head...
I went on about experience for a reason. I didn't bring it up and only pointed it out to explain why there's such a bad reaction to some of AM's posts. When someone says something along the lines of "in my experience such and such is the case" and then to someone with much more experience "you are wrong" or "you don't know what you are talking about", they're bringing personal experience into the discussion. What would be helpful to the person with the actual query, ie. the guy who created this thread in the first place, is a little explanation of what that experience includes. How else are any of these opinions useful? chris_b, who probably has the most experience in this thread, was massively pro-Ampeg.
Sorry, absolutely not aimed specifically at you, more at the general turn of events and sense of witch-hunt. Huge respect for your posts and what you have to say.
I was tempted by this but your "for sale" thread looks suspiciously like an auction to me, which I believe is frowned upon on this site?
(Clearly, the hypnosis failed). Absolutely not an auction, sorry if it seemed that way. First one to make an offer over £150 gets it held pending payment. Sorry, OP, Mods, will take this to PM's / sale thread if it carries on.
I have a Masters Degree in Hearing and am working towards a Phd in Loud Noises.
Can you hear this? Your eyes are tired. Very, very tired. You're falling asleep, a deep, deep sleep. Now, think about that lovely Vantage that Skank's selling over in Basses for sale. You'd like to buy it, wouldn't you? Now, I'm going to count to three and when you wake up, you're going to PM him an offer. 1,2,3!

I bow to no man in my admiration for the sound of a monstrous Behringer stack at full, eyeball-popping crank. Blows yer Ampegs, Sunns, Mesas (Burmans ) into the weeds. Not an opinion. Fact. Rooted in spiritual truth at the deepest levels of the cosmos. And I've been playing (without cease or even a toilet break) for 35 years straight, so I should know. (Edit for Burman abuse)
1. My opinion on how to play jazz is far less weighty than Bilbo's. My opinion on how to play punk is less weighty than that of waynepunkdude's. My opinion on how to play funk is more weighty than either's but less weighty than some others. 2. At what point does an opinion become a statement of fact? And thus become true or false? 3. For a better cheap shot, check out AM1's other thread on ampage. Amazing what a guru she's become in a month.
In my opinion, opinions carry some, but not much, weight, because they're opinions. For a definitive opinion on 'facts', check out AM1's fine, and indeed, weighty post on the subject elsewhere, which I can't be arsed to find. Some people are born 'Gurus' - time's not a factor in the equation.

BTW, while this thread's still pulling high ratings - check out my Matsumoku Vantage in Basses for Sale. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=47088 Now, back to WWF!
I'm sorry but I totally disagree. If you're still at the point of asking basic tone related questions how can you justify presenting such strong opinions and arguing them to death? If I gave you advice on how to wire your house and then you found I was posting a question elsewhere like "what's the difference between radial and ring main wiring?" wouldn't you feel that my advice was unqualified?
I think AM1 has covered this. Entirely sensible and no bearing on her opinion re: Mfr signature tone
That isn't the case at all. It's a case of providing some perspective and weight behind all the opinions on here. Everyone's entitled to state their opinion but everyone should be open to their opinion being proved inaccurate and needing reconsideration. Despite what some may think my opinions are not fixed but those grounded in deeper understanding are less likely to change!
1. Your opinion is no more or less 'weighty' than anyone else's, however deep you may perceive your understanding to be. However I value your views on cabs and agree re variations between Ampeg Models. 2. An opinion is an opinion and cannot be proved 'inaccurate'. 3. Still a cheap shot. That's my opinion, which while not fixed, is less likely to change.

Me and AM1 in agreement. Who'd a thought it. Enjoy it while it lasts, peoples Waiting for the lock!

Dirty pool, Alex. Using someone's genuine query on another thread to diss 'em. AM1 and I have had our moments, too, and she can sometimes be ...err..."high maintenance" - but that's just uncalled for. Also - those of you who feel that posting an opinion about a sound requires years of experience, that 'less experienced' posters should gracefully roll over when challenged by self-appointed experts and that moonlighting as a semi-pro cab builder entitles you to sneer at a genuine query - you know what you can do and where you can do it.

SOLD (proof that hypnosis really works) Recently re-acquired a long-term loaner - a Vantage Bass / 80's time machine. Bought S/H in 1986 in Kent, it's variously been gigged, ignored, left to fester in the spare room, lent out and brought back. Now, I'm not sure if it's a VS or a VP, or whatever - I'm sure someone like Bassassin could clear this mystery up. Low action, buzz-free, flat neck relief and a very nice sound - the twin p-configuration makes for some interesting tones. It has a hefty 3-point bridge, rather than the Fender bent-tin copy and a set neck. All hardware solid. It also has a fair few dings (worst ones shown in pics), but is structurally sound as the proverbial. Missing the pick-up selector switch-cap, but a cream replacement should set only you back a couple of quid or so. Now I haven't a clue what these are worth, whether it's rare or what. So - trade for something Squier / Fender-ish - what ya got? Or make me an offer over, say, £150. (If that's way out of line either way, please PM me you Jap-Crap experts...)
