So let me get this right. Rather than a lead-filled Durex, if I think of the volume of air shifted as being like a cylinder of something, like, say, cake, I'd get just as good a low frequency using multiple Mr Kipling Mini Apple Pies as I would with a large Black Forest Gateau(x). And being that 6 Mr Kiplings are cheaper than one Gateau(x), the low frequency will be cheaper but taste just as nice. OTOH, given the ratio of cake height to radius (which is approximately constant between the Pie and the Gateau[x]) what would happen, theoretically, if I had a cylinder with a smaller surface area (cake top) but greater 'excursion' (cake height) - e.g something like Tesco's Value chocolate sponge roll. Eh? Eh?

Bought a pedal from him. Good value item, well packed, responded to PM's etc. A good egg!

First, see a doctor. Untreated strains and muscle / ligament inflammations can go 'long-term' if not addressed. Secondly, looking at your avatar, it looks like your bass is slung halfway round your body and as a consequence, your wrist is turned through about 90 degrees. Is this is a temporary position caught on camera or how you normally play? If the latter, try pulling the bass round to your front to straighten the line a bit between your forearm, your wrist and the back of your fretting hand. Neck width can be an issue as well, but I'd get mediacal attention, and try a different position before you lash out on another bass. PS - It could just be age catching up with you
ok. cheers. Right, i'm off to the bass gallery - i'm going to walk in and ask for 2 warm cabs please! If only it worked like that..
Funnily enough, it does. Try it and see!

Frankly, I'd just put those songs out. You aren't going to improve on those demos in terms of power and commitment. If it wasn't free, I'd pay for it. Nice work, sir.

Get into a room with a biggish rig and turn it the f*** right up to 13. Feel the ground move. Clear your sinuses. Watch strong men weep. Regurgitate the last thing you ate. Now hook up with some like-minded yahoos and lay waste to your local venues. Bass playing is the means, not the end.

That looks just fine! Nice colour too.

You want one of these from Argos. Cool or what?

Stick with it. There's freakin' hundreds of musos out there and a bit of flexibility goes a long way. FWIW, last year a local hero guitarist got me, keys, drums and a vocalist for his 'project'. Sounded fantastic. Then, out of the blue, he fired us all simultaneously by email. So we got a new guitarist and now we're a band and matey boy's still looking.

I missed this one earlier in the week: The BBC has apologised after Bono called Chris Martin a "w****er" live on Radio 1. The U2 frontman had just played the Live Lounge with his band and was speaking with Jo Whiley when he reportedly made the comment about the Coldplay singer. A BBC spokeswoman apologised for any offence the remark may have caused to listeners. "An on-air apology was made immediately for the language used," she said, adding that she was not aware of any viewer complaints lodged following the interview.

Hi - and a big welcome to the tuned-down mandolin too. Just tell people you play an 8 string and they'll be mighty impressed...

Whatever you think of the Beautiful South, kudos to anyone who can cop Heaton's singing.

As these are terms used in a subjective way (ie what sounds 'dark' to me might sound 'wooly' to someone else), here's my entirely personal take: Woolly - sounds like a blanket's been thrown over the cab - not much brightness or attack. Low notes sound sort of like 'woof' rather than 'dooom' Dark - Not much brightness or attack. Otherwise normal Bright - top strings have a bit of a zing sound to them. Clicky sort of attack to the note. Lots of string squeak as you move your left hand around Cold - Lower notes seem quieter, plenty of middle. Warm - Lots of bottom, bit of top, less in the middle I'd also like to add 'Planky', where it's all middle with minimal sustain. Sound of a P with dead strings through a clapped out Trace
You do know that that story is actually false and is a joke based on the Make Poverty History advert where stars are seen clicking their fingers.
Yes, I did. It's a joke. Kind of like: Q: Why did Bono fall off the stage? A: He was too close to The Edge. BTW, did someone mention The Ramones? Tread gently...

Bono: "Everytime I clap my hands, a child dies in Africa" Audience member: "So stop clapping your f *ckin' hands".
No, I do appreciate all of that. But does that not mean, then, that no band can be over or under rated - except in someone else's opinion?
That's right. One would be expressing the opinion that a band could be more or less highly rated than one believes they should be. In some peoples opinion, I'm under-rated as a nit-picking pedant. Personally, I think I'm on an upward curve IMO.
Amen to that!! It just seems to be that if a band or artiste of questionable quality and/or talent (and it's a given that it IS all subjective) sells shedloads of product, that would tend to suggest to me that there is at least a possibility that they could be considered to be "over rated." On the other hand, is it not the case that there are countless bands or artistes of glaringly obvious quality and/or talent who sell little or nothing or may even be unsigned and would it not be reasonable to consider them to be "under rated"? Or am I missing something?
Absolutely no offence intended but yes, you are. * Band is 'over-rated' = Opinion * Band is 'under-rated' = Opinion * 'Bad' = Opinion * 'Good' = Opinion * Measurable number of people think band is 'good' = fact * Large number of people think band is 'good' = fact * Band is successful because large number of people think they're good and buy their product = Fact * Succesful band considered to be over-rated by measurable number of people = Fact * Band is over-rated because it's 'bad' = Opinion * Band is 'bad' = Opinion * Opinion is fact = Opinion * Opinion is not fact = Fact

I scorn this convention, so recurrent on these and other pages, that the more units a band sells, the (less talented / more overrated / more worthy of disparagement) they are. This is patently nonsense. There are bands you may like (or not). And there are popular bands (or not). If the two situations coincide, lovely for you. But if they don't, I can't consider it to be of any serious significance. NOI. I also reject, with a careless laugh, the absurd proposition that anything popular must have been hyped by a illuminati-like group of sinister marketing fiends. I've been in the belly of the marketing beast, and believe me, it's more cock-up than conspiracy These jejune arguments crop up again and again and again and again and again and again. Someone dislikes a band / style / genre / amp / instrument / individual / company and deploys transparently false logic to buttress their entirely subjective personal opinion. If you don't like U2, fine. I don't much, either. That's all there is. No facts, no theories, no conspiracy, no nothing. Just opinions.
