Informed opininininininon also has it that fuzz boxes sound good with dying batteries. Cue marketplace for semi-discharged 'vintage' batteries and arguments over whether Tesco's or Duracell have more 'Mojo'.

They retail for nearly £1300 in the shops... and this has a BIN of just under £500?
And about £80 shipping (cheap) + VAT + Customs duty (which adds the shipping cost to product value for levying purposes), handling fee from courier company for paying the duty and then the cost of a new transformer and tech to fit it...(120v it would appear) - just keeps ballooning. I've gone this sort of route, and it's worth doing the sums first... - but as they say, YMMV.
Looks like Sterling's been dodging the pies of late.
Blimey, I didn't know he was an old guy. (Like me). Oh, yeah, the bass. Meh. (Young person's word, I believe.)

IMHO, he's charitably given a home to some of the doggiest, sad-arsed, most butchered and angle-grinder-rip-saw bastardised instruments I've ever seen. And for this, he deserves our thanks. But not necessarily our money. That said, I just scrolled through his shop list today, and there are actually some interestingly bizarre offerings (actually in one piece) - just about 50% more than I'd want to pay....

Can't believe no-one's mentioned the Ashbory - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ashbory_bass and the truly worrying Roland G77 synth bass http://www.helpwantedproductions.com/G77.JPG

How original is this?
skankdelvar replied to Jean-Luc Pickguard's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
The only bit that looks perhaps slightly wrong is the headstock - very, very clean. While we're speculating wildly (as ladies of our age are wont to do) may I posit the following scenario: *Bloke buys bass circa 30 years ago. Dings it, getting it out of the box. "B*gger", says he. *Plays it a bit; really likes it and goes out to buy 10 Woodbine to celebrate. *While daydreaming about marvellous new bass on way to corner shop, walks under bus and killed instantly. *Widow immediately puts bass under the bed where it remains untouched for years. *Widow croaks last week. *Executor now flogging it. See, problem solved and just as likely as any other explanation -

Well, I went in there yesterday and told them I wanted to try some lightweight cabs. Not to play through, just to pick up and see how heavy they were. They had no problem with this and continued to talk among themselves. I wandered round, picking up cabs and putting them down again. Shortly thereafter, I made my excuses and left. These gentlemen have been represented as curmudgeons and gobsh1tes. I think they're just bored.
hi there I have got a Marshall VBA 400 with the 7152 dynamic bass cab and I am after a second cab. I have tried the internet, shops and even Marshall them selves and still I am no closer. I am wondering if anyone knows where I can get one from as it would be much appreciated. Bass Man Pete
Hi - there's an items wanted section under 'marketplace'. Might be worth copying the above and posting it there as well. When you get that 2nd cab, your rig's going to sound like the six trumpets of the Apocalypse. Nice.
Use it and don't worry about it. You'll hear it farting out from overexcursion long before you approach its limits, if it does, turn it down.
Er...if there's no info, what if it's 2 or 4 ohms and he's running it off an 8 ohm output? Always thought that was a no-no?
Just wondering what you do for a living, as I seem to remember you getting incredibly technical in a thread about status necks and whether they can be redrilled for different bolt configuration? You're a walking encyclopedia!
+1 It's always good to get the definitive view
lol, just read your method skank....me too. must be a baldy thang :brow: it works though...
Not only free, but discourages people from borrowing your basses
I don't mean to be rude, but are you sure you understand?! Running out of adjustment on the bridge saddles does not limit your options in the future - you just need to shim the neck. It's nothing to worry about - loads of Fender guitars and basses are shimmed like this from the factory. It's common to find fag packets, bits of sand paper etc in the neck pocket. If you try to fix the problem by over-tightening the truss rod, not only will you not fix the problem (as you're finding out!), but you might feck your neck! Pluck
+1. Admittedly, it makes no sense if you assume that manufacturing processes are consistent. But it's true; shimming is a good way round a lot of action issues, and it's a job anyone can do - no need for luthiers or techs.

If audience numbers stay roughly the same, tend to keep the settings the same, just play harder or softer as the set / song demands. If numbers increasing, usually just jack up the vocals a bit. For years, I used to like to play REALLY REALLY LOUD, then at one gig we got told to turn down, by a small but very chunky landlady. Second set, we sounded so much tighter, and the audience liked it better. Weird, but good.

Re: Lubricant. Might sound a bit 'eewwww', but try rubbing your fretting fingers either side of your nose. Natural oils. Plus, if you're a baldie like me, there's enough up there to do your entire collection on a daily basis.
can i edit it to make butterscothc an option?..
Dunno mate, but don't do it just on my account! In any case, what some people call yellow (see above), others call blonde, so there'd be all sorts of args about what butterscotch looks like....

What the hell is a "pocket", more so a "deep pocket"?
skankdelvar replied to thepurpleblob's topic in General Discussion
On the nose. On the money. On the button. But I still think Breckers pockets are a bit too tidy!!! What happens when there's a hole in the pocket?
* To avoid losing money, ensure there are no holes in your pockets * To keep your trousers up, use the buttons provided. * Your pockets should not be too tidy. Remove sharp objects, but always keep a couple of Kleenex for when you're "On the Nose". -
In the pocket = good timing Deep in the pocket = also good timing, but even better than the previous guy, so I need a new superlative. It's a bit like A* at GCSE. S.P.
Check out funkmunky's stuff on his myspace. Exquisite timing. So down, he's in the turn-up. -
I can't believe you have all been taken in by the Bass Cellar. It's not a real shop. (whispers a clue... Illya Kuryakin, Mr Waverley, Napoleon Solo ...comprendez?)
Nah, they must be THRUSH agents....

Finally - pics of my Warmoth gold sparkle '54 P bass
skankdelvar replied to Delberthot's topic in Bass Guitars
Very nice - and gold strings as well!! Blinged to the max, yet somehow understated. Good work, sir. -
Substitute by Entwistle. Lots going on, but none of it too difficult for a beginner.
