  1. In 40 years I've only used a pedal once for one song in one band. I'm open to change, mind you.
  2. Not as badly as the top 2. Lesotho - 72.4 Guyana - 40.3 Eswatini - 29.4 South Korea - 28.6 Kiribati - 28.3 Federated States of Micronesia - 28.2 Lithuania - 26.1 Suriname - 25.4 Russia - 25.1 South Africa - 23.5 Thinking about it, that's a pretty random list of different cultures and Korea's not that much of an outlier. Lesotho must be grim, though.
  3. Tony Visconti: The Autobiography: Bowie, Bolan and the Brooklyn Boy is a good read and supplies some detail about his early career as a bass player, including a stint in a local band 'managed' by a Mafia made-guy. About a fiver (used) on eBay.
  4. Do you really need to strip it? Stripping a poly finish is a bastard. If you're doing a solid colour you could spray over the existing finish. Before you do, fill any dings, flat the surface down nicely and clean with de-natured alcohol before spraying. Household emulsion probably not ideal. Poly or nitro will work. Poly's easier, nitro's nicer to look at and to touch (but expensive, slightly more difficult to source and it takes longer to do the job). Yes you may use Halfords' rattle cans. Buy one of those rattle-can handles. They only cost about a fiver, comfortable to use and they give you much more control when 'sweeping' and working round curves. Not necessarily but it's always a good idea if the new colour's going to be lighter than the old finish. Loose rule: light top colour, light coloured primer / dark top, darker primer. Use a spray poly primer whether it's a poly top or a nitro top coat. Rule: Nitro over poly, not the other way round. Flat down with progressive grades until its nice and smooth, then clean everywhere including the cavities (use a vacuum cleaner for the inaccessible harness runs). Spray in a room at average temperature. Freezing cold garage not ideal. When the paint's hard you may wish to overspray with a clear top coat. When that's done, lightly flat it out with very light grade paper then finish with a rotary buffer and Meguiar's anti-scratch polish (it's f__king awesome for getting a mirror finish). Look up some 'refinishing a guitar' vids on YT and plan your steps in order.
  5. I'm astonished. That track sounds like a modern take on Appalachian hill music and which might have come off the soundtrack of a TV series about Kentucky crystal meth cookers.
  6. Really sorry to hear your news. Hoping she pulls through OK.
  7. Dear BassChatter I am writing to you today about the growing problem of Distress Caused By Videos Of Children Doing Stuff And Having Fun Doing It Syndrome. It's impossible to underestimate the profound hurt caused by involuntary exposure to videos of children doing stuff and having fun doing it. This hurt manifests itself as a deep, aching distress, the visible symptoms of which are pursed lips, cognitive dissonance and swelling around the collar. People suffering from Distress Caused By Videos Of Children Doing Stuff And Having Fun Doing It Syndrome are too often dismissed as being fatheads or moaning bleeders but nothing could be further from the truth. Their suffering is genuine and they need our help. To this end I have established a charity with the express purpose of supporting sufferers from DCBVOCDSAHFDI syndrome but support doesn't come cheap. So dig deep and send me what you can - even a paltry £100 could help. Let's make a difference. Patron Remit cheques, money orders to: PO Box 1176, Lagos, Nigeria
  8. Speaking as the OP who titled the thread 'OK you can all give up the bass and go home now' I would like to confirm that this was intended as a joke, a plaisenterie, or, in a sense, a gag. Had I thought that anyone might take this suggestion seriously I might have entitled the thread 'They handed an 9-year old a bass and you'll never guess what happened next' but then again, I'd probably have left it as it is. I think I speak for many when I say I do not feel 'defeated' by displays of precocious talent though I allow that excessively sensitive people might view these vids, hoist the white flag and sell off all their gear, but that's for them to deal with.
  9. One time this horrible bastard stuck two capos on his acoustic guitar; a full capo to raise the pitch and a partial capo further up the neck to allow DADGAD fingerings. Dear reader, that horrible bastard was me.
  10. 9 year-old on a short-scale. Yes, her dad's a music teacher and he's mates with Victor Wooten but still...
  11. Nah, mate. Seems YT discontinued the embed size options; the suggested approach is to copy the embed code and edit the frame sizes. Pasting the embed code into a post just leaves the embed code visible in the body of the post. Tried using the <> (code) option in the toolbar, same thing.
  12. Assuming it's in working order and a reasonable price I'd snap it up. Totally fine for small gigs, works nicely with an extension cab if you find you need a little bit more oomph.
  13. First off, thanks for a lovely forum. It's nice to have the option to embed YT vids but they default to occupying the entire width of the post. This makes them quite... big. Many people probably like the full size vids but it would be nice to have an option to make the embedded vid smaller and more discreet in the same way as one sees them on other forums, not that I go to other forums, no siree. Love, Skank
  14. Last time I changed my coated round wounds was 2004. They don't zing anymore, obvz, but they sound OK, maybe because I clean them off after I've played them. Couple of years ago I wondered if the intonation might have gone a bit iffy after all that time but I checked the notes up the neck with a tuner and they were fine. They'll be staying on a bit longer.
  15. I'd say there's a reasonably good chance these guys will contact you in a few months and say 'Well, Morten, it didn't work out with that other bass player. Any chance you could come back in and audition again?' If they do, come back here and we'll tell you what to say to them. In the meantime you may console yourself that you've learned some new songs and that there's plenty more bands out there. Onward and upward
  16. Yep, needs more work but there's never enough time. Have a lovely time with the missus and send us a postcard
  17. Thank you, kind sir. The missus reckoned I'd mastered it too loud so here's a cleaner (?) version just for the record, no need to change the voting version.
  18. A dab behind the ears with some eau de Canvey. (Edit: Better version further down the page). Lyrics ↓
  19. His bass playing is just so wonderful but what we hear is the studio version with all sorts of EQ and compression on the channels and the master buss that fattens and levels the whole band sound.
  20. Alright Now: Section-by-Section Guide To Easiness Verse: Easiest Chorus: Next easiest section if you do the solo like Andy Fraser but most difficult if you don't do the solo like Andy Fraser Solo: Most difficult section if you do it like Andy Fraser but second easiest if you don't do it like Andy Fraser
