Although I was born in the UK, I grew up elsewhere and this fascination with supposed "class" is equally fascinating and baffling. From the outside looking in it looks like a self-imposed categorisation which doesn't exist except in the minds of those who subscribe to the notion. I can't think of any other country where the social origin they were born into in would be factored into the potential or authenticity of a band. It's an amazing concept to think of yourself in that way.

Nicely done. I did something similar actually [i]in[/i] the wardrobe. Give no more than 10cm to each guitar and fill it up.

Whatever song titles you come up with, put each word into a thesaurus and pick whichever synonyms have the most letters.

Esbjorn Svensson Trio are very listenable and a great way to dip your toe in. Dan Berglund played upright but he used effects, even distortion, from time to time. Svensson also ran his piano through a pod, they were really something special. Viaticum is a great place to start. I don't think it's as good as the first album but there's still a hell of a lot to like about them. Kotzen is a great singer. They're definitely one of the more interesting rock bands around at the moment.

...and a snapshot from today after finally getting the SR800LE last Friday after a 25 or so year search. I think it's time to stop for sure. That being said, I really would like to get a Wal MkII in the future

The best bass player is the most appropriate bass player for the part. They may not be the [i]best[/i] bass player in any other circumstances, but what fits best is what's best and that's often not what's most technically or melodically accomplished.

Warwick Streamer LX, maple body, ebony board, MEC pickups and 2 band EQ. Actually, the neck is originally from a Streamer Jazzman and It was initially unlined but the previous owner had fretlines put in. I swapped necks, making a fretted Jazzman and the fretless LX, much prefer the P & J combo for fretless tones.

Can't somebody do something?

Sadowsky and Bacchus make smaller J bodies, but they don't come cheap. The Bacchus 24 is smaller again, very light too.

I don't mind slap in small doses when done well and when it adds something to the music - the likes of King, Graham, Flea etc have many examples showing it's possible. What turns me off the sound of it is overuse and when it gets shoehorned in just so the bassist can stroke his ego a bit, rather than it suiting the song. I see a parallel between it and drummers who really, really love Neal Peart. Peart himself plays with a fair bit of restraint and definitely plays for the song, even if it doesn't appear that way initially. His acolytes, however, commit grave atrocities in his name, using every opportunity to overplay and show off. There's nothing wrong with a bit of taste and decorum, I find. A part of me dies inside when a youtube video turns into a slapw*** as, sadly, most of them do. So it's thumbs down from me.

I went to see Megadeth as an impressionable youth in 1988. They used to do a cover of These Boots Are Made For Walking and, live, played it with an extended bass intro. I had never really considered playing an instrument up to that point, but right then I knew I was going to be a bass player. A few years after that I taught myself guitar and drums too, they're handy to be able to play, but bass was first and still is the instrument I identify with.
