1. 2 because it's better than 3. I wouldn't use one, it looks like there's too much wood missing where the controls will be and you need that area to be as solid as possible and, even though it'll be epoxied to bejaysus, it would still bother me.
2. Another cracker is Mehliana - Brad Mehldau and Mark Giuliana - it's jazz but with a serious electronic influence. Brilliant, brilliant album.
3. Esbjorn Svensson Trio are very listenable and a great way to dip your toe in. Dan Berglund played upright but he used effects, even distortion, from time to time. Svensson also ran his piano through a pod, they were really something special. Viaticum is a great place to start. 4. In what context, who am I, venue owner, manager, musician, etc?
5. That's a magnificent colour.
6. Nah, the pig's alive. David's a bit necro.
7. I don't think it's as good as the first album but there's still a hell of a lot to like about them. Kotzen is a great singer. They're definitely one of the more interesting rock bands around at the moment.
8. ...and a snapshot from today after finally getting the SR800LE last Friday after a 25 or so year search. I think it's time to stop for sure. That being said, I really would like to get a Wal MkII in the future
9. This kind of thing never happened with the original Wonky.
10.
Although SV wasn't very good, a decent bass player would have ruined most of the Pistols sound. Can you imagine what Bootsy would have played under Anarchy?
I can't and I'd love to see the auditionees who were deemed so unsuitable as to make Bootsy seem like the man for the gig. The best bass player is the most appropriate bass player for the part. They may not be the best bass player in any other circumstances, but what fits best is what's best and that's often not what's most technically or melodically accomplished.
11. Warwick Streamer LX, maple body, ebony board, MEC pickups and 2 band EQ. Actually, the neck is originally from a Streamer Jazzman and It was initially unlined but the previous owner had fretlines put in. I swapped necks, making a fretted Jazzman and the fretless LX, much prefer the P & J combo for fretless tones.
12. Can't somebody do something?
13.
Are we going to be shortly reading a NBD thread?
Indeed. I'm quite smitten. It's rather lovely, quite different to modern SRs. I'll get better pics in daylight.
14. Sadowsky and Bacchus make smaller J bodies, but they don't come cheap. The Bacchus 24 is smaller again, very light too.
15.
An old Ibanez SR800LE with Lo-Z pickups. There's a beauty on ebay but it's priced just a bit too high and the lad won't play ball.
Well, today is, hopefully, the day the postie arrives with something special for me
16.

I have to get me some 80's suits. Amazing.
17.
Hmm, slap bass. If I wanted to slap things about, I'd have learned to drum. I just can't listen to slap. Mr King has a phenominal reputation, but from his early days, simply not for me. I'm that bad, whenever I watch any kind of video, as soon as the slap starts, it gets closed.
I, too, wish to subscribe to your newsletter. I don't mind slap in small doses when done well and when it adds something to the music - the likes of King, Graham, Flea etc have many examples showing it's possible. What turns me off the sound of it is overuse and when it gets shoehorned in just so the bassist can stroke his ego a bit, rather than it suiting the song. I see a parallel between it and drummers who really, really love Neal Peart. Peart himself plays with a fair bit of restraint and definitely plays for the song, even if it doesn't appear that way initially. His acolytes, however, commit grave atrocities in his name, using every opportunity to overplay and show off. There's nothing wrong with a bit of taste and decorum, I find. A part of me dies inside when a youtube video turns into a slapw*** as, sadly, most of them do. So it's thumbs down from me.
18. I went to see Megadeth as an impressionable youth in 1988. They used to do a cover of These Boots Are Made For Walking and, live, played it with an extended bass intro. I had never really considered playing an instrument up to that point, but right then I knew I was going to be a bass player. A few years after that I taught myself guitar and drums too, they're handy to be able to play, but bass was first and still is the instrument I identify with.
19. You just can't argue with the sound of the first Boston album. Sublime.
20. Haters on the internet? Sounds like they need lessons in... etiquette.
21. I don't even store instruments against external walls. I would never store them in an attic, no chance.
22. Tip o' the cap to Vulfpeck for this funky effort https://vulfpeck.bandcamp.com/track/christmas-in-l-a
23. The quality of many songs can be overlooked due to overfamiliarity and the relentless annual onslaught for a month but, even so, Fairytale of New York still stands head and shoulders above them all for me. http://www.bbc.co.uk...rammes/b0188438 Worst? The sterile contemporary production line xmas goo means a host of x-factor winners and Glee cast members can take a collective bow here.
24. Cheers. Yeah it's a Bacchus Standard 5. It has seen better days though, showing a fair bit of wear now. It's actually black but the oil finish is worn through a fair bit.
25. Yeah, but even Hetfield stopped that nonsense about 25 years ago when he learned how much fun it is to get paid
