That looks superb, really nice combination of colours there.
Video confirms that Tal got where she is by using Vinnie. Derivative and bland like everything she does. There are far better players out there, but they don't need to rely on the gimmick of being a woman.
Wow, sour grapes for tea? I dunno, I found that as dull and unlistenable as much of the output from a lot more high profile lead-bassists with penises... penii? Nice playing technique but f*** sake what utterly beige music.

Go to the Warwick website and enter the serial number, it'll tell you exactly what it is, then search for it on ebay and the FS forums here and you'll get an idea of the current selling price.

Sounds like a way of trying to encourage bands to do more than just show up on the night.

You can take a chance on solid bodied basses which are supposedly lighter or if you want a guaranteed lighter bass but you like the feel of the one you have, buy a chambered body and fit your existing parts to it, maybe add a set of Hipshot ultralight tuners too. That's rather nice, I wasn't aware of that model.

Well... my most played bass, I've had and played for almost 20 years, I filed the nut down so the strings were as low as a zero fret and it's still the original nut with - I would say - entirely unnoticable wear after all this time.
Am I imagining that the black plastic nut (graphite?) on my bass has gotten lower? I think the strings have gotten deeper/looser in their slots over the last few years. It's the one I play 99% of the time. How can I tell if it's graphtech or just plastic?
I can't see a nut wearing down from just the force of the string sitting in the slot on its own. If you maybe tuned up and down aggressively for an hour ever day so the string acted like a file, then maybe, but that's highly unlikely.
I was looking into getting a 4003......... I still love the shape etc but am a little perturbed by the lack of Ric fans jumping in and telling us they are great!
The shape is so good it even looks amazing headless... and I hate headless Pic borrowed from a thread on talkbass

I yearned for a 4003 from the moment I started playing bass and eventually saved up and got one. I loved the looks, I loved the tone and I spent a long time setting it up just right (including filing down the nut slots). The greatest compliment I ever had was from a guy in a bar where we played in the basement and he was on the ground floor - "I couldn't hear the band but I could feel your bass!" but it was just too uncomfortable to play (no forearm contour, that stupid pickup mount with it's insanely sharp edge) so I sold it on after a few years. I don't feel bad about it anymore, though every time I see one I still want one but then I remember those huge bruises on my forearm after long gigs and the GAS goes away. It's still the most evocative bass shape there is.

I wonder when they get on to the 80's will they start reissuing reissues?
-
No, I think this one is more calculated than that.
Really? I am starting to believe they're very close to this, if they haven't started using the random ball instrument generator already. "That one looks kind of 70's, Chip" "Let's call it the 70's Precision, Chad" "But Fender never made that in the 70's, Chip" "It doesn't matter, Chad, just get Brad in marketing on the phone"
-
It's like they have different features and they just draw numbers out of a velvet bag. "What's 23, Chad?" "23 is blocks but no binding, Chip" "OK, next up... number 41" "That's a Tele style headstock, Chip" "OK, intern, draw that up on Kisakae, let's see what it looks like"
-
Just when you think they might have run out of ways to repackage the same thing yet again they go and do this. FMIC, you astound me once more. For your next trick I have some stones I believe may contain some blood, see what you can do
It is sop... the open string might be easier but you retune the whole bass for this...?? learn to fret it..it will good for you in the long run.... for those classic times when the Vox says he can't get that key anymore at that volume A classic example here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zcLdzwtzt4...feature=related taking most of the open strings out of it or certainly the hardest part of them
In any Metal band you're going to find yourself playing whatever the guitarists lowest open-string note is a lot, especially if they use a drop-D tuning. If you think it'd be easier to play a whole set with one finger permanently clamped to the third fret, that's admirable to put it mildly, but personally I'd just go with the flow and tune to match. Life's to short for tendonitis I speak as someone who has been in this situation in the past
-
Rather defeats the object IMO..you have the B st so the D is covered..no need to bother messing around with anything else for an audition.
Many Metal riffs written in dropped D tuning are pretty unplayable if you try to fret the D on the B string. Even then, if you can find a way to play them, they'll sound awful if you can't work off the open string in the same way as the guitar.
-
Maybe a set of Elixirs to cut down on friction from the string too.
Tried playing some songs last night with a dropped E string and its easier but if I want to move away and play something more adventurous I've no idea where I am anymore
Maybe, since it's an audition, they just want you to stick to the facts and leave the adventurous stuff for if/when you've bedded in. Most Metal bands are based around largely shadowing what the guitar is doing (not saying that's right or wrong, just saying), re-enforcing the rhythmic power of the riffs. There is scope to branch out and be adventurous but if you're not holding it down first then it will be noticed. Concentrate on being tight with the drums and playing powerfully first and flamboyant second. You shouldn't be purely just mimicking the rhythm guitar but, for an audition, that's where my starting point would be. Let them know you can nail it tight first, then show them how expressive you can be second. I could be miles off the mark but that's generally the gist of any metal situation I've been in.

Can I install an active preamp into a passive bass?
Doctor J replied to megallica's topic in General Discussion
Ok thanks, assuming the control cavity was big enough, would I need a new control knob?
Again, it depends what you're putting in. If your bass has vol tone and three way switch you'd probably look at putting in a stacked pot for treble and bass cut and boost. What is in the bass currently and what do you have in mind? -
No doubt they'll have a few riffs based around other open strings too, really the easiest thing here is to copy their tuning. Been down this road before, trust me, it's less grief in the long run to go with the flow here.
-
Tune your B to A and your E to D. Copy their drop tuning, it's the simplest solution and you'll pick it up easily enough, much more so than if you have DEADGC.
