1. Do people think that Ibanez aren't capable of making high end instruments or something? If you've ever played an Ibanez J-Custom guitar, you'll know they're among the finest crafted instruments you'll ever see in your life. If Ibanez are saying there's two grands worth of materials and construction in these then I'm keen to play them, to be honest. One grand of Ibanez is often to the level of two grand of some other, let's say, more respected manufacturers. I would fully expect these basses to be the dog's burritos. I'd agree entirely with the Yamaha comparison, just because they're great at making great value for money instruments doesn't mean they're incapable of making something special that justifies a premium. That's logical, right?
2. Ahhhhhh, I do love this kind of thing. Thanks for posting this
3. I always thought I could whore myself and, with financial assistance, overcome any obstacle taste may present but, when working in a studio, I recorded a band whose music I hated so much I discovered the truth about myself: If I don't dig the tunes you're better off I don't show up.
4. I'd just play a lower tuned and slightly longer scale guitar.
5.
Yes, I think the classic blonde/slightly translucent off-white.
The correct answer
6. Looks nice, Howard. Are you going to paint it?
7.
I think it's really useful to know a bit of guitar (keys and drums as well if possible) and if you learn a little theory about how a chord is constructed and the various chords that go together in a particular key, then it's beneficial to my playing especially when asked to play songs that I'm not massively familiar with.
I think that's a great point. My approach to bass playing has changed a lot as a result of playing drums and playing guitar. Learning other instruments should definitely help your musical understanding and, as a result, your bass playing.
8. I've been the guitarist in my band for 5 years now. Still don't like it
9. Ritter is the most bling bass there is, I'll be surprised if it's not gold plated. to be honest Great singer, whose reputation is only enhanced by the fact that she chose the right instrument, great taste, Mary.
10. And I'll send you a shiny bass filled mix in return
11. Count yourself lucky, I was once in a band with a guitarist who didn't know that he was playing, so every second of every rehearsal was filled with random noodling and he'd respond with a confused "huh?" every time you'd lose patience and shout at him to shut the f*ck up.
12. I had a Hotwire built to my specs a few years back... which was nice, not sure I'd ever do it again though. Most of what I've bought has been from abroad without playing it first, with the exception of a handful of local second hand deals. I haven't bought a bass in a shop since 1989 More recently though, I've been buying basses because they're not like something I already have. I don't really want variations of the same thing, the fun is in experiencing variety.
13. Very nice, looks like it was really worth the wait, congratulations!
14. Yes, active preamps require a battery.
15.
they're backlighting the sandberg dots with LEDs, ohmygogogogogogogod
THat would be the thing which I dislike the most
16. It has been an interesting week on Basschat... and it's only Wednesday.
17. Weren't they a part of BC Rich anyway? I think Michael Kelly are part of it too?
18. Can someone get me the bass tracks out of yon computer game, I can lash it into protools and do up a mix?
19.
There is an album avaiable on one of the torrent sites called "And Justice for Jason". The whole album sounds sooooo much better
Not really Justice for Jason though, it's some other dude playing over the CD, Jason still isn't on it
20. Now that I think of it, wasn't the bass on AJFA an EMG equipped Steinberger, not that you'd hear it, of course
21. Yeah, I'd second the EMG recommendation for that. Black album and the two Loads were mostly EMG and Trujillo uses them in a lot of his basses.
22.
I reckon this should be locked again, as we're not in possession of the true facts.
Best suggestion so far.
