Piggy from Voivod used the guitar version of that in his latter days, it's a very clever design indeed.

Yep, did it and love it. I'm going to defret the bass too to really get the most out of it. Didn't need to do anything to the nut but action and truss rod tweaks are a part of life and shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes. Get stuck in.

Cheers. This id closer to the real colour again but I can't seem to capture the wierd orange glow from it. It's really very orange indeed.

You should see it in real life, man, you'll need some goggles to protect your eyes It sounds really nice, I'm genuinely delighted with how it turned out. Got an old set of strings on it while it all settles down, will string it up with new ones soon and really see what it can do. The neck is pretty decent, seems stable enough and it's taken a good setup so it's all good so far.

This took a while, I think I got the body seven or eight years ago. Between one thing and another I finally got to get stuck in a few weeks ago and here it is in all it's orange glory. The pic doesn't do it justice at all, if you imagine what radioactive fanta would look like... there you go. I'll take better pics tomorrow in daylight. The specs: one piece ash body painted migraine inducing orange Mightymite one piece maple neck which I spent a lot of time rolling the fretboard edges and got the frets nice and level so it sets up really well, it's very comfy indeed Dimarzio ultra jazzz pickups, bridge pickup in the 70's position Noll TCM3 pre - controls are vol & blend on knob 1, bass & treble cut and boost on knob 2 and mid cut and boost and passive tone control on knob 3, which is activated by push/pull on knob 1. There's a lot going on under the plate. I'm quite chuffed, it plays very nicely indeed and sounds just right.

My earliest memory in life is listening to my mum's Mothers Of Invention LPs, Absolutely Free and We're Only In It For The Money so, musically, anything goes and that's the way it has always been. I still primarily love rock and Metal and that's a large part of my playing time, but I've never had a change of direction as such, more like having a wander through a different door for a while.

I can't really think of putting anything else in as an upgrade per se. What are they missing, tonally, that you want to bring in? If you put in EMGs you'll need to replace all the pots anyway, so the S1 switch isn't going to be a factor unless you stay with passive pickups. Have you considered leaving the bass as is and getting the likes of an external Sadowsky preamp? If you're just looking for a little more high end zing for slap, that'll do it and you won't have to break out the soldering iron.

Redo your soldering, sounds like some bad joints in there.

I think Fender will finally have used up all the combinations of parts from the basses of the 50's to the 70's and will be re-issuing reissues, such as the soon to be legendary "'82 '62 P", having jumped the shark with the "54 77 classic", a 50's P with the single P pickup where a 70's J bridge pickup should be, but with the chrome cover still where the pickup used to be on the original. It will still sell like hot cakes, although many will lament the lack of a bound rosewood board with block inlays like the future 50's Porn Shop reissues. All in fashionable polyurethane, of course, whose time will come again.

I tried the D'Addario EXP and thought they were awful, nowhere near as bright or long lasting as the Elixirs. The coating of the Elixirs stops grease and crap from your fingers getting into the winds of the string, which is why they stay bright. The design of the EXP doesn't do this and strikes me as pointless. I tried them on two different basses and they both went incredibly dull after a short enough time. I replaced them with Elixirs which I now have on all my basses. I still have the original set which came stock on my Bacchus P almost three years later. The coating is starting to come undone now but I think I've got a good run out of them.
