ESP Bass

What are you having done?
2. Damned firewall in work is blocking the pics Can't wait to see this.
3. It's the list of instruments I have an unaxplainable desire to own... Gear Aquisition Syndrome
4. Sound. I tried a 1024 at a recent expo here... it just confirmed the 2024 is top of the GAS list and no mistake!
5. Not sure what I feel about Dingwalls but you seem delighted so good stuff. Might be a stupid question, but would one of those also benefit from the likes of compensated nut, true tempered fret placement, etc? How far can man take the fretted instrument?
6. Once it stops being fun, get out. It doesn't sound like you're in an enjoyable position at all.
7. Bought a number of instruments from Japan. If it's shipped through a courier like FedEx, etc, they will charge you VAT and Import Duty and a surcharge for processing this on your behalf. You will not receive the instrument unless you pay the money. I've never had somethign come in through a courier like that which didn't get taxed. If it goes through EMS, the Japanese state mail company, it will end up with Royal Mail on your end and, sometimes, they don't apply the customs charges (mistakenly, it must be said) they should. Everything coming in from outside the EU should have VAT and Import Duty (over here it's 4.3%) applied to it, some do slip though the net though. Do the maths before you commit to buying and be prepared to pay. You might get lucky, you might not.

9. Ha ha thanks If I built one, you know I can build another
10. Check the prices of those already on sale in the FS section, usually around £700 or so.
11. You shouldn't need to clean Elixirs. The whole point is the coating doesn't allow finger gick to get into the winds of the string. Unlike the other coated strings, Elixirs are coated after the string has been wound, so a quick rub with a dry cloth should be enough. If it isn't, time for a new string.
12.
I appreciate that this is a serious 'Marmite' bass
Not at all Jon, that bass is gorgeous. Anyone who doesn't like that is clearly a mentalist.
13. That is a spicy meatball. Nice one.

Oh Yes!

Preferred the ESP version. That big gold bridge belongs on the Bobby George sig.
15. Play the living bejesus out of them, that's how they know I love them. The odd clean and oil every now and then, then another beating.
16. If the wife has to buy it... that's the line right there.
17. I always do a pre-gig check, make sure everything's tight, nothing is crackling or scratchy. It's amazing how many of the things which stop working at gigs show up in rehearsals or practice first and are just ignored.
18. Never needed one, never bring one. Keep spare strings in the bag, spare lead, that's it.
19. Man those Elixers look like they've grown fur, change them before they get up and walk
20. Added some green funk for extra protection (formerly curtains), just a little bit of trimming left to do
21. Former SR3006E owner, lovely instrument, top class build quality, just took a few years to come to terms with the fact that I'm not a 6 player. Rejoined the gang yesterday, picked up a SR1300PM... really, really fantastic instrument. I can see it getting a lot of use.
22. Turns out it was in fact a SR1300PM, the top of the range Ibby from 93, Paduak sandwiching a mahogany core, 5 piece wenge/bubinga neck with wenge fretboard, AFR pickups and Ibanez pre with sweepable mid. There was no way I could say no. Spent today stripping it down and cleaning 16 years of smoke off and out of it and oiling the wood. It's all back together now, sounds superb, quite a lot like my Streamer actually, but with that neck. I'd forgotten how slim the necks are on these things, after the initial shock your hand just flies all over the place. It's such aneasy and graceful bass to play. There's a stigma about Ibanez basses for sure... and that's ok, because it means people like me can pick up top drawer basses for a song Yes, I am enjoying the catch
23. Let's whittle this down to the facts... He wrote some of the best pop songs of all time and is a wonderfully melodic bassist who's pushing 70 and still rocks harder than most 20 year olds. I'm not seeing the problem.
24. Heh heh, a 4 string high end SR has been on the list for almost 20 years, just never found the right one. This is possibly the last of their high-end reverse-P + J models, it's been all soapbar types since 98, so yeah, I'm probably a little more excited about this than I ought to be. It'll sit well beside that Streamer I got off you, Frank. I hope that Bacchus is going to a good home, I still have an emotional attachment there
25. Maybe it's the angle the pic was taken at, but it looks like 12" scale?
