What am I thinking? "He's playing too much"
-
Like it or not, your tone, what you play and how you play it all come as a package. To ignore one or to say it's insignificant will be to the detriment of the others. If the punters don't cop onto that nice growl you get out of your bass and rig, why would they notice that tasteful fill you did either? If you don't think the little things about our instrument all contribute to the whole, just let the keyboard player do the bass and stay at home
I'm a total hippy but I hate the look. I sport, French cropped hair, black and red clothes. The tie-dye is in my minds eye, not on my t shirt.
You sound like you look like, like, a fascist.... man.

I could never do it. Sure, my ESP J comes with me to the grave, but then what of the Bacchus P? That's a keeper too. Then there are the others, the delicious others. They're all different, almost like children. How could I get rid of them? What kind of monster are you?

We're all Europeans now (even the British ), your rights as a buyer are covered by European law. The vendor should have offered you a replacement too (outside of the £25 PFO offer)? You're covered in the same way as if you bought it in a shop down the road, just extra hassle with couriers involved.

SEARCH FOR BEST EVER BASS CONTINUES....

I see where you went wrong. It's my Godlyke Disciple. But you can't have it, it's mine -
Yeah, but the dimensions specified only state what THEY think a guitar and bass 4 hole neck plate size is, and I don't have a guitar neck plate to measure and confirm that it's correct. Thanks for your help though!
It's the dimensions of what they're going to send you. You can compare the screw postions to that of your '57 Classic Series Fender Precision, no?
-
It should be fine. The dimensions are specified on the image in your link.

Having owned (and sold on) a few big G guitars, I'm forever immune to the lure of owning another Gibson. However, that does look kick-ass, it really does. I hope it's not just a good one, but a great one. Rock the sh*t out of it!

No ketchup or mustard?

That Commando model, part of the "Global series", is made in the Philipines. To be honest, for the price that red one was going for, you could realisitically pick up a second hand Japanese one from Japan.
-
They've just overhauled the guitar with James Tyler, the new one actually looks quite decent. Here's hoping they do the same for the bass model and perhaps give it the same features.
line 6 variax? can also sound like anything you want!
Indeed. The variax guitar does digital retuning on the fly, just tell it what you want each string's pitch to be and off you go. I can't see it working as a pedal though, you'd need to be impossibly precise with your playing so there aren't any fluffed notes or two strings ringing out at once, chords, etc would be hugely problematic. The piezo pickup for each string is the key to it on the guitar.

Hen's teeth! 1966 Slab bodied Precision rears its head...
Move the camera to the left a bit and it will miraculously all become central.
Indeed, but given that the photo is taken pretty much face on, it still won't centre the strings over the neck in any real sense, just in a photograph and it still doesn't make it worth eight and a half grand. In my opinion, of course -

Now it's time to get serious... As the Metal I loved disappeared and the rest turned to sh*te during the '90's, three albums kept me going Of recent stuff which has impressed... -
My 4003 always sounded like a 4003 no matter what I plugged it into. If it's a decent amp, no matter what gender or orientation, it'll sound like a 4003.

Eight and a half grand doesn't get you an E string that isn't practically hanging off the side of the neck? I'll pass, thanks. -
Yeah, it's not Sabotage anymore... it's most likely a royalty-free derivative. Murray mentioned it on Saturday, "Cameron's cutbacks" he said

I hover between 4 and 5. I did play a 6 for some time as the band I was in at the time I was able to use all 6 strings while fitting in with what the band was about, sonically. After that band broke up, I really had no use in anything I was doing for that C string and it made no sense at all to have that extra bulk under hand, so I moved it on. 4 always feels like home and, if I'm honest, I could probably do everything I need to do on one but sometimes 5 is a nice change.
I think I know.... but I'll let you lot get a bit more TB about it. (hint : it was a joke pertaining to a post has has since disappeared subsequently making him look a right cnut)
Yes, that was me. I posted and, upon re-reading decided it was steering the thread off topic so I deleted it. Then I saw Truckstop's post, which is indeed humourous in context. Put away the pitchforks, there's nothing malicious going on
Just stopping by to say hello, I'm Justin from Dublin in Ireland. I've been playing almost 20 years now, currently playing bass in a blues band and g****r in a Metal band, have dabbled on drums too, though bass is what I started on and will always be my main instrument. I think I used to be on an earlier version of this forum a couple of years ago. Anyway, hi to you all!
I've since moved house

Have a look at the price of, say, Stingrays on this very forum. There is quite a difference between some of the asking prices. Should we set a guidline price for everything, just so we're all cool? A buyer will buy at a price they're happy with, a seller will sell at a price they're happy with. I just don't see the issue. The community can't act as the Cool Police, making sure everyone is cool with each other. Besides, who here hasn't been lowballed? Is there anyone who doesn't buffer up the price a little to take into account the inevitable offers which accompany practically every deal? Of the instruments I've sold here, there wasn't a single time I didn't get either lowball cash offers or absurd trade offers for things which were sometimes less than half the value of what I was selling. I'm a grown up, I can make my own decisions. Surely everyone else is too? The community spirit is a great thing here, don't get me wrong, but I think it's wrong to police the commercial threads, maybe I think something you're selling is overpriced and vice-versa. It'll destroy that aspect of the forum. I tell you what, if we get to shoot the lowballers, I'll agree to the shooting of the profiteers
-
Why would it bother you? Once you sell it, it stops being your instrument. If the guy wants to make a bit of wedge, fair enough if he can find a buyer. If he puts a hat on it and has conversations with it, it's still his perogative. It's only ever worth what someone wants to pay at any given time. We've all sold at a loss, we've all made deals in our favour, such is life. I don't see it as a moral issue. If you bought an old Fender this year it'll be worth more next year as the mojo is one year more powerful, why would you sell it at the same price when a 76 is worth more than a 77? Meh, this is not a big deal at all to me. I appreciate the community aspect of the forum but once you sell something it's worth whatever it's worth to the next guy. If you can't let go, don't ever sell anything

Aye, the Tyler designed Variax guitars are quite tasty. If the first series of Variax instruments suffered from anything, it was that they looked cheap. If they do a similar job to the basses, they might be on to something special.
