    What bass?

I think we have a winner
  3. Great, great band. Mike Starr had some really busy lines but never got in the way, a really good player. I love the downslides Inez did in Grind, simple, but really effective
  4. The second one says it's Fender compatible but has a square derrière to the neck pocket, so selectively compatible, I would say.
  5. I don't think I've ever submitted one so early in the month 😂 The music: Driving Ferraris around a dystopian city cost me a lots of 10p pieces in the 80's. Beating the clock, getting time bonuses and moving to the next stage were all that mattered, accompanied by 8-bit hard rock. The blurb. Yamaha drums with a brass snare, captured by the cheapest Thomann mics and Behringer interface. Bass is a Levinson Blade, guitars are a Bacchus floyd-equipped rock type, into an Engl pre. Synth stuff is Reason, all mushed together in Protools.
  6. Combine the 4 into one kick donkey mega idea like the big Power Ranger
  7. When I'm on speed, everything is fast.
  8. If it's a lacquered maple board, that's not a great idea.
  9. I picked up this 91 B4 a few years ago. It's superb and, in my opinion, better built than any US or Japanese Fender I've ever owned and at least on a par with the Japanese Sadowsky Metro I used to have. The neck is exceptional. As mentioned, the build tolerances are exacting. The neck fits into the pocket like Cinderella's foot into the glass slipper. No messing around, trying to line anything up with these. The hardware is solid. Everything has a touch of class about it. I changed the preamp. Nothing wrong with the original, just I prefer straightforward more/less types, so it has a Glockenklang in there now. The Levinson pickups are very nice but in changing the preamp I sacrificed the dummy coil used for noise rejection, so put some Bart humbuckers in it last week. It was superb as it was, the changes were just personal preference on how I like my controls, because I love playing this bass and I play it a lot. If you can find one, buy it.
  10. One that plays like hot butter?
  11. So me, then, I wasn't sure who your question was directed at. Ok. I think you misinterpret the sentiment of what I said but, hey ho. She's a cool player in a cool band. I don't see where the shock comes in, though. I don't find it shocking that a woman can do this. Are you suggesting I should? That being said, I don't see anything in her drumming which should cause shock either. There's no virtue signalling going on. I am genuinely surprised if you find exception in women kicking donkey in rock bands. Perhaps we have been exposed to different music over the years.
  12. All of those look crap to me. Why not just leave it in the cavity, where you haven't missed it all this time?
  13. It shouldn't just need a pull one way or the other. There should be tighter tolerances during manufacturing so misalignment is not possible. A neck should fit snugly into the pocket. Other manufacturers do it. Fender, instead, choose to take the wizard's sleeve approach to neck pockets as it speeds up production and means less scrappage.
  14. The only shocking thing is if people are still shocked by women playing competently in rock and metal bands.
  15. Record the sound so people can hear it and you'll get the answer much, much quicker. Even if it's just recorded on your phone, it will be much better than trying to use words.
  16. That enormous flag pole could be turned into a sun-blocker very easily, should Mr. Burns wish it to be so.
  17. Ehhh... not quite. The C in CNC stands for Computer and weren't in use by Fender until the mid 80's, I believe. The idea behind the Mexico factory was to churn out high volumes of units at the lowest possible cost. This means minimising the human involvement and automating as much as possible. The labour intensive manual methods of the 50's and 60's are exactly the opposite of what the Mexican factory is doing. Whoever told you that is, I suspect, a little misinformed.
  18. Get Flea back on a Wal - not a Stingray, not a Jazz, not his Jazzray, not his Modulus, not an Alembic - his Wal.
  19. To be honest, I'm more forgiving of someone who gets it all wrong but is, at least, consistent. Those do it for only one or two strings but get it right for others... well, I have a ticket to ride on Hell's black wings for those people.
  20. There's a thread about an early 70's Precision with a five figure price tag and a neck just as misaligned. Nobody seemed to care about that, just that it was old. Fender can get away with this because they have always gotten away with this. Brand names are more important than quality.
  21. I feel awkwardly ahead of schedule with this one. I have the general idea in my head, recorded drums yesterday... we're only four days into the month. Something's up.
  22. Can you elaborate on the tone control. When you turn the tone all the way down, does the volume go all the way down? Is it functioning as a tone control at all? When the tone is all the way up is the output acceptable in comparison to your other basses. Etc. It sounds like you have a wiring issue but, with such scant details, it's not easy to guess what the problem actually is.
