Favourite headstock design? Just for fun...
Doctor J replied to Yorkshire Bottom End's topic in General Discussion
The bar is used on almost every Floyd Rose equipped guitar, many of which have headstock adjusted truss-rods. It's not an issue, in my experience, when it comes to truss-rod adjustment. I agree with you on the 4-string one, though, I've done the same on every 4 I have, either that one or the Hipshot one. -

Not enough to strip the wood, it appears. -

Favourite headstock design? Just for fun...
Doctor J replied to Yorkshire Bottom End's topic in General Discussion
The three separate string tree efforts, when one bar would provide uniformity of break angle simply and cleanly, for me ruin what would be an otherwise tasty looking design. It just looks messy, like they never really thought through what they were trying to achieve and bodged a solution from the parts bin. -
Setting up a P Bass, Action and Nut Slots
Doctor J replied to Chienmortbb's topic in Repairs and Technical
I go by feel and sound, never used a ruler or measuring device once. I like minimal relief, so that's the first thing I set and the key to the entire setup. Action is set by feel as every bass is different, but generally I like a low action where I can get a bit of grit by digging in but it's clean when I lighten up. It depends on the bass. Once the bridge is set, I never adjust it again. Pickup height is done by listening to what's coming out of the amp and adjusting to taste. My view on the nut is your clearance over the first fret shouldn't be too far away from clearance over the second fret when you fret at the first. I've never bought a new bass where I haven't needed to cut the nut slots deeper. Once those are done I wouldn't ever expect to touch them again. Relief adjustments alone should keep things in line from then on. -
No, bad design. Loosen the string, then re-wind it, feeding each wrap under the previous one, so it increases the break angle over the nut. The better angle you can create, the less you'll have this problem. There are string trees which also pull the A string down, but that's a solution for a later time. https://www.public-peace.de/product_info.php?info=p1042x935_hipshot-string-retainer--3-strings-.html&no_boost=1

Show a picture of the issue as it's not very clear what is going on.

Home recording or banging my head against a wall.

Start with the basics, is it the Focusrite showing up as a device in whatever system you're connecting it to with whatever operating system it's running, however you're connecting it? -

NBD: Somewhat of a childhood dream. A van der End 5 string Jazz.

Nice. What's going down in Pickuptown? Very interesting. -
Squire P Bass randomly gets zero to extremely low output

Now you know how the AI farms get data for answers 🤣 -
We are but a few baby steps into the AI journey, don't forget. There is a long, long way to go before we truly see what it's capable of and understand the consequences.

What is left to be said about a repeatedly regurgitated design? Let the robot handle it and go down the pub.

Consider playing ergonomics too. The D-Roc requires to be played in a particular way.

What was the fix for the pickup problem?

Will BC ever work properly on iPhones?
Doctor J replied to dave_bass5's question in Site Issues and Questions
I use Firefox on an iphone 15, don't have that issue any of the time. Give it a shot. -
C is just fine, but I'd be looking to use a set of 11s or 12s. My last gig was on guitar in a band who tuned down to A, sometimes dropped G. I used a home-assembled 25.5" scale strat using D'Addario 68-14 strings. While we usually did the heavy stuff, it sounded very nice clean. I used the same setup to record this a few years later, with some clean in there, tuned to A.

Fender replacement necks - any alternatives?
Doctor J replied to DF Shortscale's topic in Bass Guitars
Pick up a cheaper Warmoth neck here, ones that are already built. You get to choose fret size, too, among other options. US$210 plus about $100 shipping plus 25% import duty and VAT won't overly violate your budget. https://warmoth.com/bass-necks/j-bass#instock -
Fender replacement necks - any alternatives?
Doctor J replied to DF Shortscale's topic in Bass Guitars
Warmoth, in my experience, make better necks than Fender USA, never mind Mexico. They're expensive but for very good reason. -
A bit of Cry of Love in the video too, very tasteful 😉

Love your work, fella, always fascinating to see you put this stuff together.

A regular J cover pair should fit them, no?
