1. Thanks all for your replies. Financially I'll stick with SM57. I managed to get good results. As per my You Tube video 😉
 2.
My opinion, for what it's worth (not really a Maiden fan, I play with a pick etc. etc.) It sounds good to me. Playing seems pretty spot on and if you're trying to achieve the Harris live sound, your close.... plenty of clankiness (wasn't the studio sound a bit more rounded.... compressed?) I take it that you are using big fat roundwound strings (preferably Rotosound SH signature). Nice one mate, Mart
Cheers Just learning how to use compression.I didn't want to kill the sound so left it raw as it came out the amp. The strings are Flatwound SH Sig rotosound. The sound and video is not quite sync.but good enough for me.
 3.
Maybe you need to ask yourself what you are trying to achieve with your videos - it's difficult to give good constructive criticism without knowing what you are trying to achieve, e.g. a good performance video of you rocking out would have different criteria to a more educational playalong aimed at showing viewers clearly how to play the song in question.
Achieve nothing. Perhaps criticism on sound as in does it need better mix compression etc
 4.
This article might help; it talks about compression and a whole lot more: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/sep12/articles/mixing-bass.htm
Cheers.lots of good info
 5. Can anyone advice How to correctly use compression on bass during mixing. Thanks

 8.
Although for W10, there is a thread running for movie editors. If you check the specs on the suggestions, I am sure there will be stuff for W7. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/285632-video-editing-in-windows-10/
Thank you
 9. Can anyone suggest a good movie maker/editor for windows 7. I've got the standard pre installed live movie maker. Is it sufficient to start making my own videos, you tube videos or is there anything better. Thank you P
 10.
Listened to a track you've been covering for years and realised you've been playing it wrong?
Sometimes. Luckily there are isolated tracks on you tube channel.:-)
 11. I've no experience with garage band.Did you make sure you selected the correct input in Garage band ie the same you plugged your bass in.Also on Focusrite interface box you can flick between instrument or line input depending if you use guitar or microphone. Have you tried options menu in garage band and in preferences selected the correct audio. I once phoned focusrite tech and they were helpfull.
 12.
Having thought about doing a 2x10 build for a little while, but being a novice at this sort of thing, I've decided to have a go instead at the basschat 1x12 (or hopefully something very much like it - I'm building in advance of the full write up, and my DIY skills aren't always the best!). There's a few reasons for going 1x12 for a first build but most importantly it's the opportunity to build the thing that I've been reading about for some time, and the fact that it seems to be pretty well received by the (albeit relatively limited?) audience that's heard it so far. I've bought enough materials to build two cabs, although only ordered a single driver so far, since the cost of the driver itself is the best part of half the cost of the cab. I plan to build both cabs and once I'm sure that I'm happy with the sound I'll order the second driver. I got the ply from Avon Plywood in Bristol, and they've cut it (very accurately) to size. I've gone for 18mm Poplar, so it wasn't cheap - just a shade under £60 +VAT for the full sheet, so a total of about £82 including VAT and cutting. The small cutting cost seems like an absolute bargain to me - I don't have a circular saw, and I didn't fancy using a router to square every edge. I'm not sure whether to reinforce every joint with a batten, but I've cut enough to enable me to do so. Raw materials so far, including template for routing the baffle:
The final product looks of a higher quality than some Chinese makes.Where did you get the dimensions from and would you share it?
 13. I was going to start a similar thread but hope you don't mind nipping in. I got myself a lovely sounding accoustic guitar last weekend and recorded it with shure Sm57.Very good result. The mic was on axis pointing at the guitar opening hole about 20 cm away. I since watched many you tube videos on recording accoustic. Here is one of them https://youtu.be/F-_xkBoAuJw I also look for amother reasonably priced mic for recording accoustic.
 14. Thanks for advice gents
 15.
You might need to replace the nut and the bridge saddle - unless you are going to pay upside down.
Course never thought of that.Simple job though.Thanks.

 17. Is there any difference between right and left handed acoustic guitars? An acoustic guitar looks ambidextrous to me.
 18. What's the point of strap locks. Just finish off with rock and roll style https://youtu.be/zRsH8g4wtUM
 19. I started using a boot sale app last night and within 15 minutes bought a 3/4 size acoustic guitar from a local seller.Just what I needed. Moderators, can I name the site?

 21.
Fender Rumble Combo Crap Logo Solution I'm very impressed with my Fender Rumble 500 Combo in almost every way. EXCEPT for the really very crappy, flimsy, badly-designed, cheap and nasty plastic logo Fender fitted with two screws to save themselves a shilling on each amp. It's only a matter of time before this abomination gets snapped off in normal use. OCD being what it is, I couldn't let it lie - so imported from the USA this rather nice Fender Blackface Amp logo, which is metal, weighty and very lovely, the whole on a sensible and practical 3-screw backplate. Makes all the difference and now all is calm and good. Yes, I have too much time on my hands. I thank you. Before: Terrible plastic Chinese flimsiness. After: Lovely sturdy metal USA goodness.
I too have the terrible Chinese plastic flimsiness on my Rumble 100 but interestingly my Fender Mustang has the better version.Just like the one you bought. Both amps made in China though.
 22. That guitar looks wrong imho
 23.
I wouldn't say £225 for a 4x10 is much of a bargain for something that will give you a hernia.
Ha ha it would be the least of my worries.I wonder what it sounds like
