1. oh well two hrs later still alot of buzzing at the first few frets till about the 8th fret, can only eliminate it by raising the action then the strings seem tight!!!! it may need a new nut/zero fret as the neck is definately not gonna change enough by the truss rod alone!!!! trip to the gallery me thinks!! ill leave the neck to settle for a few days night all. zigs
2. cheers guys ill mayb need to do it regards ziggy
3. Hi guys and gals and those that can go either way!!!! I got a beutiful bass with hipshot brigde , and a nut but also has a zero fret, its a cracking bass for the dough i paid but, im happy with the action near the nut but when it gets near to the pickups its queit high, i have set the truss rod with a little relief and the hipshot brigde saddles are queit low. Im gonna put some new super step strings on the bass and hope this is enough to lower the strings near the pickups. but it may still be a tad high so im thinking about shimming the neck its a bolt on neck. So how do i shim the neck ? do you use plastic spacers(1mm would prob do it) or wood or metal , is it more a luthiers job? kindest regards ziggy.
4. well ive had some experiences over three weekends that actually at one piont last weekend nearly brought me to tears!!!!! heres the deal 11 piece band playing , towerof power, incognito, brand new heavies, all sorts of funk stuff, soul ballands, jamaraqoi ,steveie wonder .... 5 star hotels all around the world everything paid for! get the picture ..... we all come from all over the country and reherse in cornwall, so the whole weekend is tied up. 1st rehersal girl singer (main singers wife) and guitarist (who ive known for years) havent learnt a bean... to it being a tad embarrasing,,, i didnt care as all my parts were nailed 2nd rehersal, girl singer , guitarist had forgot what they learnt in first rehersals and also didnt learn anything new. i nailed all my parts and was constantly being asked by the band (except for the horns who can read ,i cant) what i had written down as i had made notes throughout the two rehersals. 3rd rehersal. 5 days before we are due to go down to cornwall the guitarist wants to pull out (1st major gig in june to 500people!) so as im kind i went to his house told him his good (he is a blinding player) and he had 3 days to learn the tunes. drove down with him... 1st,2,3,4,5,tune was dreadfully embarrassing, and then the day and his playing got worse to the piont where i had to keep asking to play my part with vocals and drums only to prove that my playing and notes were right(guitarst conveneintly put his amp directly next to mine), as the day drew on i got even more pissed with him when he was reading my notes playing my root notes and i had to piont were we were in the tune with my right hand while still trying to finger the notes with my left hand!!!!!!!! then he asked if before the next rehersal i could pop round his so he can write my hand written notes out!! sunday was even worse and i at one piont wanted to cry when he was complimented for 1 solo that he got right!!!!!! so im absolutely gutted and am very cross but above all that dissapionted that he himself/girl singer hasnt put thier hands up and admitted that he hasnt listedne to the tunes ( all the middle 8s and brigdes of the tunes he didnt even know, and kept telling me how to play the tune) whereas i saidas there are 3 tunes out of 26 that i admitted i needed to work on . gutted everyone really am. ... guitarists eh!!
5. hey hiya matey, Would this be useful to add midrange to a bass sound? like a ebs preamp pedal? kindest regards ziggy.
6.
Just a little update. I decided I didn't like either of those body shapes, so went back to pen and paper and had another crack at it. Anyway, this new idea is the result. Controls are in quite daft positions just now, but it's easy to fiddle about with a design while it's still in the computer. All comments and suggestions gratefully accepted :-)
like it alot except for the top horn but thats just my opinion dude looks cool maybe make the top horn not so busy more elegent ( maybe a bit longer) or what about making the top horn into a singlecut ? regards ziggy.
7. wow dude cool, i foolishly worked out roughly how much my costum made sei woud cost and i think i stopped at about 3300 !!! and i got two great ides that i know would fire Martin up but they would cost even more to do! ill start saving!!!! sei bases are wicked, z
I saw those 5 strings in the gallery last week & they are gorgeous, I was tempted with the offset 5 It's stunning, They are a lot of bass for the money
yeah i tried the offset and didnt get on wityh it that much although i was very tired and had missus in the car!! i like the through neck one so gonna try it when i take the 4 in as the frets need a little roll around, glad you are well dude z
11. thanks for youre kind comments, i wasnt sure with the 4 but the bass is beutiful to play and its the closest ive ever had to a new bass , there isnt a mark on it, yeah all the six is beutiful, im after a nice sei 5 now, and there are 5 in the gallery at the moment!!! I was gonna trade something with cash for one but now trading that bass with cash for a different 5, but im really tempted to sell/ trade my spector usa5 to get a sei 5. seis ......... are just beutiful. heres a odd thing i wonder why second hand seis arent as dear as other second hand basses , ? ie gallery = 2nd hand erou lx 5£ 149, warwicks £1800.00to 3000.00, f basss etc ... then you look how beutiful the seis are and they are all under £2000.00... odd! anyway im happpy with my two and am looking forward to getting a sei 5 at some point to complimemnt the two!!
