I've tried the Ring Thing out a few times. Theres alot of cool sounds in it. I cant really give any technical descriptions as I've only played it and tried out the presets without looking at the manual. Basically. It does the ring-mod thing (duh) but you can press the left stomp switch for it to change to the key you're playing in. The presets give a whole range of sounds from micro pog-like polyphonic octave up (sounds a bit more digital than the pog though), tremolo/vibrato sounds, whammy-like pitch shifting (with an expression pedal) - and alot of synthy sounds. Its really cool, I personally wouldnt have a use for it but its alot of pedal for the money and you could definitely have alot of fun coming up with both wacky and no-so-wacky presets.

I can see how the volume sensitivity issue could be pretty annoying. I keep my pedals velcro'd on my board and the VT is specifically out of the way (behind my M9) as its always on and I'll never need to stomp it. But regardless i've never accidentally knocked it. I also have my drive settings much lower (between 9-11 o'clock), but that's my personal preference and probably why I dont share as much of the same issues as the OP (drive boosts the volume, so higher drive means higher overall volumes independent of the level control). I think its been mentioned on other forums that some people have removed the level knob and fitted a small ring (possibly of rubber) and then put the knob back on, it basically makes the knob harder to turn and therefore easier to find your sweet spot without as much of a risk of an accidental massive level boost. Also, pretty sure just getting the pedal modded not to put so much volume out shouldnt be so much of an issue. One final thing - I noticed when trying out the V2 VTBass (with the speaker switch), I could raise the volume control MUCH higher than I could on my own (V1).

FS: Dynatone 100w Valve head for Guitar and Bass

Sound clip please ignore the playing - its awful. I was looking at the meter on my preamp, as well as the meter on my computer to make sure I wasnt clipping, whilst also thinking what control to tweak next. Things to Note: *The 'problem' with the amp actually appears to have gone to a greater extent, its only when I recorded for the second time did i notice a **Slight** crackle in the background occasionally, however no doubt it may return, who knows? *Everything you hear actually sounded bigger and bassier live - it just sounds ALOT better and ive never had to really mic anything other than vocals before. * for the most part both Gain1 and Gain 2 were cranked and Master was at about 2 (on the dial, not 2PM) - hence the overdrive * I purposely played through some 'thin' sounding settings, and can always add overwhelming bass. * the 'Treble' Control kind of works like a tone control in a big muff - As you increase the Treble, you actually CUT the bass and vice versa. * Some sh*tty noises that you are hearing is actually alof of fretbuzz and the fact that im recording in my messy bedroom and i myself was actually only playing about a meter from the mic. Setup: '86 MIJ Fender Precision -> Dynatone head -> SWR Workingmans 212t cab -> Sure SM57 (close mic'd) ->Presonus tube pre (tube turned all the way off) - Computer running Adobe Audition. No eq or tweaking other than on the amp. -

I think this ones stocked with mullards an brimars though I think my 'ultimate plan' will be got all light and solid state for a wee while and secretly stockpile loadsa cash and take a trip to see Jeff at Matamp.

Hey Guys. decided to go back to solid state so im getting rid of my valve amps (except my valve jr). Heres my Simms-Watts PA 100 MK II. - I need an amp I can fit in a backpack and a cab I can fit in a cab! Heres a Link to the original thread This head is in 100% full working condition and has been my main amp since I got it, its performed without fault. Collection only from Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire (just outside of NW london), right near junction 18 of the M25. SOLD SWR Cab for sale in a separate thread, Epiphone Valve Jr not for sale:

Hello! Up for grabs is one of my valve amps. Its got two guitar inputs and a bass input. It is branded as Dynatone and on the back it has a repair/service sticker from Carlsbro Technical Services dated 22/09/90, by the look of it the amp it probably late 60s/70s. I bought it on a bass forum and have been using it on both Bass and Guitar and it sounds amazing on both, they guy i bought it off (BC member UMPH!) said it was like a Marshall Superbass, but DEEPER!! I was told it was 100w, But being all Valve, I havent been able to get the Master above 2 before getting neighbours banging on the wall - its bloody loud. As far as I understand it, the current casing is not original, but a very nice refinishing job. The good *Great all valve tone, * 3 Inputs *EQ for Presence, Bass, Mid, and Treble *Two gain controls (one for each channel) and Master volume * works 4/8/14 ohms The Bad *the amp has developed a slight fault in that there's a crackling sound when in use. This wasnt there originally when I bought the amp but developed after i took it to a mates house for a jam. The previous owner said that it could be that the bias has slipped. or that one of the tubes is loose, So this amp WILL need a service when you get it. But I dont think that its a massive deal for someone who knows what their doing. For someone who has access to a tech, or who knows what they're doing this'll be studio/stage-ready in no time. *Its HEAVY, like the best of valve amps the transformer is massive a its made of some heavy wood. * The metal grills on the top and back of the amp get very hot due to their close proximity to the valves. Bonus fun: there's a input jack on the front pannel between Gain 1 and Master Volume that I have no idea what it does - I suspect maybe a footswich input? Not too fussed if this doesnt sell, i've got other amps to use, but this one sounds the best. No postage due to the weight, Collection only please (unless you wish to arrange your own courier at your own expense - whilst i can get measurements for you, getting this weighed will be nearly impossible - but could be done however my scales are not the most accurate) I live near junction 18 of the M25. Rickmansworth is also near the end of the Metropolitan Line. I am open to offers, so feel free to try. Payment via Paypal or Cash on Collection. (preferrably paypal.) **PLEASE NOTE** - This amp is being sold as is and I have done my best you give the best information I can regarding the faults. I will not be accepting returns on this item. I cant invite you to try before you buy as its not my house but obviously I will run through things personally with the buyer. Price: looking for £200 collected

from personal experience i can certainly recommend the Way Huge Pork Loin (off the top of my head) - very warm, could get aggressive and fuzzy if you wanted, but it does alot but never gets too wild, its a soft clipping overdrive. I really didnt like the EBS Multidrive - I think dan might have hit a point with the Catlinbread SFT.
-
The VT bass is not a bad idea at all, I love mine and use it everytime I play. You may want to consider the EBS Valvedrive also. Maybe something by Dave Hall Amps? When it comes to tube-like overdrive, theres a wealth of pedals on the market. The Darkglass B3k from what i've heard is absolutely amazing, however still trying to justify buying (its about as much as my 100w valve head cost) The Way Huge Pork Loin is also very nice for softer sounds and the Way Huge Green Rhino is also great for harder OD sounds

go for the SFX microfuzz - I've spent alot of time with it and its forebarer as well as a custom shop microfuzz/phaser pedal - it has so much lowend that you can successfully use it on bass with the tone up to 3 o'clock (try making that sound work in a band on a muff!!) - its also got a really synthy quality to it, more natural than the blowtorch, more synthy than a fuzz. Heres a clip of my playing the MicroFuzz section of my [SFX] Burninator and just flicking the 3-position mid-switch http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=10132397

Phil Lynott - Waiting for an Alibi/Dancing in the Moonlight tone
Dosi Y'Anarchy replied to TheRockinRoadie's topic in Effects
the script its better on bass in my opinion (I A/B'd the two) - the problem with alot of phasers is that they sweep out the low end, the script seems not to do this so much as the block - its still an obvious lush phase shifting sound but it seems to to shift your low end about as much. Alot of phasers just plain ole loose the low end - i've owned or tried Behringer Phaser Shifter Boss PH3 MXR Script Phase 90 MXR Block Phase 90 Source Audio Tri-mod Phaser Maxon PH350 Rotary Phaser HBE Psilocybe Phaser to my ears, the HBE worked the best for me on bass, followed very closely by the MAXON, I owned and spend alot of time with both. The phase 90s i just A/B'd in a shop against each other and the HBE (which I bought) However this was in relation to my specific phaser needs, not to match a specific phaser sound. -

I own the Pog II and have owned a couple of Micro Pogs - really great but not the FAT octave down of the OC2s. I did try the Aguilar Octamizer and the tracking was pretty good however for not much more you can get a used Line6 M5, which has a great 'bass octaver'
