1. OK, got some basses for sale, not interrested in trades as I currently have 5 basses and really dont need any more than two (and the Jaguar is on indefinite hiatus ) First up is my Yamaha Billy Sheehan Attitude Special - I believe its a 1995/6 model I believe the Special was released as a cheaper alternative to the Attidude LTD model, but wasnt as cheap as the Attitude Plus. It doesnt have the dual outputs or scallopped frets, but does have the signature 'surf green' finish. The Special has a single output, a p-style pickup and a gibson 'mudbucker'-style pickup at the neck. It has a volume control for each pickup and a tone control for the mudbucker. I upgraded the stock mudbucker with the DiMarzio Will Power Neck pickup (which is what they use in the top-end models) and I replaced the P-pickup with a DiMarzio Model One blade pickup - they person i bought it from claimed it was about 10 years old, but I cant confirm that. The good: the neck is amazingly playable, very quick, and from what ive manages to read about the Special on both BassChat and TalkBass - it may have a thinner neck than its higher-priced relatives. I generally play jazz basses and have had no trouble with the yammie whatsoever. Its capable of a very aggressive p-bass midrangey tone, or fat dub-style tones, the pickups can be blended together or used solo, but the tone control is only for the Will Power Neck pickup. This bass became my main bass over both my Jaguar and my Deluxe Jazz because of its ability to cut through the band, but still sound natural. The bass is passive, but by experimenting with the pickup and tone controls, there are alot of sonic varieties available. the bad: The single worst thing with the bass is that the fretboard has begun to come away from the neck. I actually hadnt noticed untill i was changing strings one time and what i thought was just a little stress line open up alittle under the relief. The separation seems to reach from the nut to midway between first and second fret. Its not been an issue for me, as once the strings are on, the tension is strong enough to keep everything in place, hasnt affected playing or intonation. The guy who does all my guitar work with me said that its a pretty simple job to fix, involving wood glue and a clamp, but that if i wanted it done, id need to leave it with him for a week, and TBH i just havent needed the work done. You could do the job yourself if you fancy it. The bass also has a number of dents, scrapes and chips that are all visible in the pics (there is also some scratching on the body between the p-pickup and the bridge), and are of varying sizes and depths. here are some more pics, both general, and showing damage. There are also pics here of my Ibanez, which is also for sale: http://s135.photobucket.com/albums/q143/do...and%20attitude/ I will sort some detailed photos on request from interrested buyers. heres a Harmony Central page about the Attitude Special (although im not sure if the first review is, as the Special never came stock with DiMarzio's) http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews...de+Special/10/1 The DiMarzio Will Power neck pickup cost me £120 only a few months ago. In the sale i will include the ORIGINAL pickups aswell as the Dimarzios. The bass is The rock bass, and as such, it has been rocked hard for almost 15 years, and has the scars to prove it. I'd Like £299 posted to mainland UK, £275 for cash on collection. I am open to offers, but dont insult me - even with the damage to the neck/body, theres still £200 of pickups in there. Paypal or cash-in-hand. As mentioned, I am happy to post more detailed pics on request. any questions, please ask. I can also post audio clips on request, but theres no point to that as it'll sound different through every rig.
2. cheers, ill keep an eye on this one
3. hmmmmmm, whats the width of the neck pocket? im just wondering if the neck from my Jag bass might fit
4. yeah, im looking for a Tech 21 Bass Driver DI. Seen them go here for about £90, so I think its reasonable to ask that. I also have a Tech 21 XXL bass edition for sale that i'd be happy to part-x (im selling it for £55 but ill give it for a trade value of £40 - so Id pay £50 and send the XXL) I also have a Fuzzrocious Pedals Green Stache (GGG-tuned big muff) that i could part-x but that commands a higher value, and im not that keen to get rid of it. thanks Theo
5. +1 to all that. I posted a similar question to this on TalkBass a few months ago, regarding using effects through a DI. I play though a 1x15 cab (and sometimes with an added 2x10 with the horn turned off), when I played a gig with a house rig (2x10, with tweeter that i didnt know was on till after the gig) and DI'd through the PA, my distortion sounded horrible, just plain wrong. After beating myself up over the lame sound of my awesome pedals i realised what it was: playing through a 1x15 is very different to something with horns. The high frequencies that these things can produce can be amazing, but not for distortion, which i guess is why guitarists are always mic'd up. really for DI and horn purposes i think you need something that'll roll off from about 4-5khz, which im pleased to say the Sansamp pedals do. In my experience (with my old band that I always got DI'd at gigs with), something like the sansamp is a great idea coz essentially you'll sound like your playing through a tube amp when you're DI'ing even when using effects - the sansamps also add a little compression. Soundguys love it too coz the tone is more pleasing and they dont have to sod around with another mic for the band.
6. about to PM you on the Hematoma
7. XXL still up for grabs i guess, might take it to band practice instead of my regular distortion to see how it fares again a guitarist who plays through a bigger bass cab than i do (ampeg 410)
8. i might be interrested in the hematoma, but id need a price first
9. SOUNDCLIPS: Maxon AF9: http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7427698 Marshall Guv'nor II: http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7325603 Tech21 XXL Bass Edition: http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7427709 im quite taken on the XXL, so i may end up hanging onto it
10. So I got one of those small EHX pedal bags, and it doesnt wrench my shoulder out of its socket like my old one does, but it also means that I cant bring as many pedals out with me anymore...now I have more pedals off my board than on it and I feel like im wasting them. NOTE: Green Stache is NOT for sale yet Maxon AF-9 Auto Filter - reported to be as close to an original Mutron III as you can get without actually buying one. Very wet/fat/funky filter. Its True Bypass too, according to Maxon. I'm looking for £110-GBP including postage in the UK. Tech 21 XXL for bass - a very versatile distortion - provided distortion/fuzz is what you want. I bought it to try it as an overdrive, but it doesnt really do low gain. Had I bought it to test against the Green Stache, it may be the Stache here now, but I've recently picked up a number of new pedals and this is one that is getting used the least. Between its WARP and TONE controls, its capable of alot, and is meant to be the perfect companion to the BDDI. I'd like £55-GBP including postage in the uk. Marshall Guv'nor II - dont dismiss this cheap pedal - It actually holds the low end beautifully - has absolutely MASSES of volume on tap (never need to turn it up past 9 o clock), a 4-BAND eq (including DEEP control) and is capable of lower gain sounds to roaring distortion. I'm looking for £25-GBP including uk postage All the pedals are in fantastic condition and are working as they should be. I accept paypal only. Thanks Theo
11. bought an ATK 401 - Great seller, great communication, took great care in packaging, would happily deal with again great theo
12. Ok, got an ATK400 in the works, so im gonna remove the Trade/part-X options. Its Sale or DEATH.
13. ok, ive had an offer from abroad, but please dont make me send it to the yankees I'll also mention that i still have the original pickup covers. and the bass comes with straplocks already installed (and obviously i will send the corresponding locks for the strap itself) Im holding out for a UK sale, as postage abroad seems to be horrendously(sp?) expensive.
14. pm'd again, i think its love
15. thanks for the Jag love. I've a few trade offers: rack distortions, 70s basses. payday is soon and i might just buy an ATK for the hell of it.
16. thanks, i've had some interrest, some from overseas. I'd rather sell to UK residents, but no one seems to care much for Jags these days (albeit ones with a f*cked up look) this has been my recording bass at home as it just seems to have a better sound to my ears than my yamaha, and its EQ/preamp/signal routing options have just made it so easy to love. the jazz, although probably a superior instrument (american made, 3-band EQ, pickup pan, through body stringing ect), can have quite a harsh tone, and its been left under my bed with dead strings since i got the jag. I'm keen to give the Jazz some love, and get myself a musicman-style bass, so the jag has to go.
17. I liked the sound of my Xciter when i had it, however when i was recording and had my amp really loud i noticed alot of background noise, on trying to discover what it was i found it was the Xciter. Ditched it the day after. It can make your bass sound both fatter and more 'sparkley' at the same time. From the reviews i've read i understand that many dont trust the DI on it (many believing it to be quite low quality- im not sure of the basis for this assumption tho) and also the jacks are plastic, which many didnt like. I got mine for £40 used, and for £40 its a great bit of kit. something to note though, much like the BBE sonic maximizer, this enhancing of bass and treble might come at the cost of mid-range (almost by definition) - sure it sounds great on its own, but you may loose some presence in a band mix. This is all subjective tho, if you get a chance to get one for around £50 then i say go for it and just sell it if you dont like it.
18. I use a BBE optostomp at the end of my chain, it does a pretty good job of subtle compression, I dont get harsh peaks with any of my filter pedals (BMS, AF-9), the only time i actually notice it working is when i have my wah too loud and the peak causes a slight 'popping' sound, but that doesnt usually happen when i have the wah set up properly - and also the 'pop' isnt the speaker-killing kind. They're about £60 and have two controls Volume and compression and an optional 15db pad Its a pretty highly-regarded compressor and is the easiest to use.
19. Well here's my 2006 CIJ Fender Jaguar with a Leo Quan Badass II bridge. I also swapped the pickup covers for ones without holes (im a heavy-handed player and play in drop tunings and didnt like the sound when the strings touched the pickups). I also added a chrome 'ashtray' bridge cover that is specially made for Badass bridges. PLEASE READ: I tried to sand the body of this bass down and re-varnish it myself - as you will see it didnt really work out, still sounds amazing and everything works as well as the day it was made (possibly better since the upgraded bridge). I left some of the Hot Rod Red around the edge of the approximately bass to give a sillouette-effect I didnt touch the neck. The only 'damage' other than what i did to the body is a small indent on the back of the neck at the 4th fret - i only noticed it when preparing for sale. This has been my favorite bass since ive owned it, but my MIA Fender Deluxe Jazz has been neglected for far too long, and i cant part with it (it was given to me by my uncle), so the Jag must go. I dont need two jazz-style basses when i only ever use one, and i have a Yamaha Attitude so that covers most tones for me. loads more pics here: http://s135.photobucket.com/albums/q143/do...r%20for%20sale/ as you can see, the body looks like a child was let loose with alot of sand paper, and for all intents and purposes, he was. The Scratchplate has also seen the sand paper as i had painted it with oilpaints and wanted to get it off afterwards. I loved the bass, but wanted to get creative with it to make it unique - and i succeeded, but not in the way i would like. As mentioned earlier, the bass still plays and sounds fantastic, If it doesnt sell, I dont intend on having it re-finished - its a great bass with the thinnest neck fender do on bass. More pics/detailed pic's can be supplied on request. im looking for £400 delivered to the UK (paypal) my availability isnt great, but you can collect in person for £375 (cash) If you have any questions, feel free to ask, just send me a PM.
20. great guy, quick postage, would happily do business with again
