I'm selling some almost (competely in some cases) unused rack gear, I was using this in my little home studio but after a bit of buying and selling of rack gear it's all surplus to requirements, so I'm making a huge effort and not just stashing it all for when it might come in handy

Just the rack case left now, and I'm including postage in the price as well, or I can or I can drop off near Leeds / Bradford / Keighley / Skipton, or Hebden Bridge - drop me a message and ask.

I can throw in some rack screws as well if you need them - just ask for them.

Only ever used at home, had my audio interface & some other bits in. This had a 10mm hole drilled in the top which I've patched from the inside by gluing a piece of plastic over the inside (with 2 part expoxy, so it won't be coming off).

There are digital amps as well, just an "amp sim pedal" and power amp together. I use a Markbass Multiamp and all 12 amp sims are top quality. There's the Kemper amp thing as well

With the DSP tech and software available now, it is definitely possible to emulate any amp perfectly, it's just a question of price. In 10 years time you'll have perfect amp sims on our phones (or whatever's replaced them) - we're not that far off now, I don't have a guitar amp, just amplitube.

In the end, if a digital rig outputs the same numbers as an analogue rig, it sounds *exactly* the same.

I just noticed this question, 4 months later! About par for me I do use the MB pedal, and I like it, it's pretty flexible with a few different modes for switching presets, but yes you do have switch to the patch select mode to turn things on and off - but, you can just have two presets, one with the effect on and one with it off. I use it in "bank" mode, where the right hand 2 buttons go up and down 6 presets at a time and the other 6 select between presets... quite hard to describe, but it gives an easy way to get at all the presets quickly.

I'm looking for some help from someone who owns a MB Multiamp Stereo. I have the mono, and I'm just finishing off a little utility to help manage the bank data - the remote control software is good for individual patches but I wanted to be able to copy whole banks and mess with them.

What I don't know is how the stereo version saves it's factory preset banks, specifically the filenames but I'd like to check that there's no other obvious differences in the bank data.

Anyone got one and could save the two factory banks (ie the ones that aren't "USER") and send me the files?

I might even have seen that one, bit far for collection from yorkshire though. Having a collection only one nearby seems to be the way to score a decent deal on ebay, I got an SR506 like that a while ago as well.

I've now got the SRC6 strung with the Ernie Ball Baritone strings, and as expected it sounds great - tuned A - A# (in 4ths) is just like the standard Bass VI with the bottom E gone and a top string obviously, so I was pretty confident that would sound just as good and it does. B - B works as well, but I prefer the feel of the A version so that's what I'm sticking with for now.

The only thing I might have to change is the nut, I think the 1st fret intonation (and maybe 2nd but I doubt you'd notice) on the fatter strings is out and the slots need deepening a touch to get it right, but I'll wait a week or two to make sure I'm sticking with these strings before I make changes I can't undo.

That was the other option on my list I bid on one on ebay in fact and didn't get it. If I ever see a cheapish one I'll grab it and do a back to back comparison.

I've been looking out for a baritone or similar for a while, as a guitar replacement. I've been focusing on bass only for a while, and guitar is really a second instrument, so it just feels odd playing a normal scale guitar these days. It's like some kind of toy instrument

I looked at lots of things but in the end I had a rare bit of luck on ebay, I found an Ibanez SRC6 advertised as "New Other" - barely played, collection only within easy driving distance, starting bid £299. I thought it was worth a bid but didn't excpect to win it, but no one else bid! So I got it for the £299, and although the new other description is stretching it a bit it is in fantastic condition, not a mark on it anywhere.

The hard bit was going on holiday the day after I bought and not getting to play it for nearly 2 weeks!

So obviously it's not strictly a baritone, it's really more of a bass VI, but it has 30" scale which is what I was after, and nice pickups, and from a bit of research it seems a bass VI can easily be turned into a baritone, but not necessarily the other way round, so I can try both this way.

I've had a bit of a play now, and the first thing is that it will definitely be turned into an A - A baritone. The low E is a bit floppy and doesn't work too well with a guitar sound. There's a set of EB baritone strings on their way already. It's what a lot of people say about the SRC6 with the string spacing etc - it's not really a bass, it's a guitar that's capable of going as low as you will ever need.

After deciding that I fired up Amplitube and had a mess about with the other 5 strings (same gauge as I'll be getting pretty much, just moved over one), and I am really blown away by the sound on this thing. As a detuned guitar the sound is just massive, I'm not sure it's the big strings or those EMG pickups and the preamp but I can't remember a guitar being so much more than I expected before. The clean sound is good, but once you get into a bit of crunchy dirty rock territory it's just awesome. I've been playing it all afternoon and I'm still grinning.

There are good demos of these already, but I stuck a quick clip on soundcloud, this is how it sounds in the hands of a very average guitarist. I've just run through 3 pretty standard amp sims, clean and a couple of dirty ones - stick with it for the blow you away sound, which is IMO the second one. That's all with the bass rolled off a bit and the treble boosted on the SRC:

I dunno if it comes across, but for me that's just a massive sound, especially considering I've not even started tweaking the amp sims for it yet. None of that is even using the lower strings, that's all up in standard guitar territory.

We set off on hols yesterday with the big car all loaded up including bass. Got precisely no miles before a nasty clunk became obvious (from the car, I should maje that clear). Popped to the local garage and he warned against taking it (knackered pulley = good chance of total failure) so we went home and repacked into the wife's small car, but the bass wouldn't realistically fit in.

I've been practicing pretty hard recently and I was looking forward to getting some hours in. Just wondering if anyone very near Helston has a spare bass I could borrow or rent for a week? Just has to have strings really

One if those long shot but worth asking things, you never know, if I didn't ask it'd turn out there was a basschatter next door to where I'm staying and I'd find out 10 mins before setting off home again.

One other trade option would be a Baritone guitar, eg Ibanez RGIB6, Ibanez MMM1 or a PRS SE Mike Mushok.

This is still available BTW, and I'll be heading down to Cornwall next week (27th til some time the week after), via Dorset on the way down.

Yeah, that doesn't surprise me, they play nicely as well as sounding good. For the action, this one will hold it's own with our guitarist's Les Paul, Strat and Tele.

That looks really nice. I know how much I like my old BTB456, so I can imagine the new premium ones are just awesome. You get used to the big wide fretboard really quickly, and it helps you to keep your left hand nice and flat when you're playing as well.

I've got two Ibanez basses now (the BTB and an ATK300), and I'm after an SRC6 and a RGIB6 as well. For factory made instruments I think they they are the dogs.

Play how you like, electric bass is still a pretty new instrument anyway. But, if you can play with a pick and with your fingers, you'll have a better range of sounds and feels than if you just do either. I do both (and I'm learning slap now) in the band I'm in at the mo (originals, with some rocky and some pretty mellow songs).

I always used to play with a pick (and I've mainly been a bassist) but I learnt to play properly with my fingers a couple of years ago and I'm really, really glad I did.

Same thing with an SRC6, easy enough to spot, he sent me a link to another user's feedback thread so I double checked but was already pretty sure. Looks like it's all sorted now, for that user anyway.

Yeah, I changed from a set of Overwater round wounds and D'Addario tape wounds and the effect was about the same.

I didn't get chance to have a play with it last weekend, but will do have another when I can get up the enthusiasm

Very interesting. I'll have a play again this weekend, and especially see how it sounds at volume.

If it resonated across the whole range it might be fine, I think the problem for me is how much the tone changes in specific places - but again, the real test is whether that comes out at stage volume or when recording I suppose. I can try cutting the highs as well, I'm aiming for a really low thumpy DB tone anyway.

I'll check out the strings above the nut as well, and check out the open strings, although I play floating thumb and with a flat left hand so usually I'm ok keeping the rest of the strings muted.

Ok I don't think anything is coming through. Truss rattle, tuning peg rattle will not come through an amp but you will still hear it untill the amp is fairly loud!

I've had one of these basses albeit fretted and I honestly can't hear any thing odd even at the end. Like I say I'm a bugger for picking up on these types of noises.

Have you tried playing it really loud?
Also some basses do have a certain resonance to them. Just like dead spots I suppose.

It is a good point that it's not so obvious through the amp, so maybe for band work it would be fine, I do think it does still come trhough a bit though. I might have a play with headphones on and figure out how bad it is. It's definitely not anything loose, I've checked everything now, and the strings are seated nicely both ends.

That's it, yeah, and it's a lot more noticeable when playing acoustically - I should dig my mic out and try recording it that way. It probably seems more obvious to me in the soundcloud clip because I know what it sounds like. It's also more obvious compared to much lower notes than I've got in the clip, if you're playing and you run up to a high D it really sticks out.

I think it'll need to go to someone who knows what they're doing, I'm just loathe to spend more money on it.
