i use a 700rbII through an aguilar DB115. i used to use a rbx 410 which was quite good. i turned to a 15 to try and get more of a vintage tone. Which is awesome but when jamming it can be hard to hear everything that i play. ive started to take the rear casters of the cab now so it angles up and its easier to hear.

i think it comes down to whether you want active electronics or passive. Personally i prefir the tone with a passive jazz

Its more expensive but when my band plays a gig that requires the full backline as well as the vocals going through the PA, we hire a sound guy. To cover the costs we negotiate with the venue to up our fee. For small pubs or venues you shouldn't need to milk it with a big PA setup.

A lot of bands i know leave it up to the singer to buy the PA system. The guitarists and bass players buy there own application, drummer buy there own kits so to me it makes sense for the singer to buy the PA for there vocals to go through.

I've just recently finished my first project bass, and i'm fairly happy with my result. Originally it was a horrible looking bass with a purple body and an ugly white tort shell style pick-guard. Not my cup of tea but the bass was a good price. I stripped the bass back to the wood and sanded and primed the body. Then i built up the layers of vintage white nitrocellulose lacquer. Then i applied a couple of layers of clear coat lacquer which gave a nice pale yellow finish. Then i ripped out the controls which looked farly tatty and build a 1960/61 fender stack knob style control plate and controls. Im really proud of how this bass turned out. It seems to even sound nicer now and its taken over as the bass i always pick up first. Its not amazing quality but as my first attempt im more then pleased. Heres a few pics. acording to the fender website the correct part is the "Concentric 250K/500K Audio, Solid Shaft Potentiometer (Volume and Tone)". which i belive is what ive got.

Right, im most probebly throwing myself in at the deep end here. Im interested in learning about how the elctronics of a bass work and are put together, so i thought theres no beter way to learn then to just give it a go. So my mission is to build a 62 stacked knob control plate for my mim jazz. I have bought all the compounants i think i need being; 3 holed fender control plate Two 250k/500k Potentiometers Jack socket 47uf orange drop capacitor 22uf orange drop capacitor 22 gauge wire Ive read that by also having resistors wired can help ellimate crosstalk between the controls. Which resistors should be used? I was wondering if anyone will be able to me advice on what and what not to do. Also if anyone can post a picture of there work on a 62 circuit it will be much apreciated, as i think it will help me to follow the wiring diagram. Any help will be awesome. Thanks

i take 2. one for standard tuning the other drop d. I have them both plugged into a selector switch to save time so all i need to do is pic one up and push a button. for me this is quicker then just tuning down cos my tuners pretty slow.

i use a ehx switch blade which is awesome as it passive. And then i have a boss eq so i can get levels between the two basses more even

Really try lock in with the bass drum and the snare. Its all about getting "in the pocket". Once you've got the groove down then u can start to add the little fills etc. I find that with Jamiroquai and other Acid Jazz, soul funk etc its all about groove. Not so much trying to impress people with showy off type things. Also with Jamiroquai Zender and Fyffe used to like using octaves alot, which kinda give the bass lines a kinda disco feel.

brilliant bass. i dont think i will ever part with mine. ide say think about changing the pre though. definetly a bass worth more then the sub £1000 price catagory. i found the string spacing tricky to get used to at first but its all good now.
