FS OLP MM32 5 String Bass [Getting Harder to Find]
Mark. Glad the DJ5 has gone to a good home. Who knows, one day i might end up with it again lol. The 55-02 is a really nice bass. If i wasnt going through a MM phase at the moment i would also be very tempted. Im getting rid of the DD (yeah, after all that hassle of getting one again), the idea was to get a "real" SR4 but Ive come to the conclusion that for the money, the Ray34 is a great bass. Ive been gigging it since i got it, not had the DD outside the house since feb. Still not 100% with the string spacing/neck width but its playable. Ive got a Nordy going in it this weekend and that should be it. It looks fantastic (very close to the DJ5, all black and matching headstock) and still a few £100 lower than a second hand SR4. So now im on the look out for a SR5. They seem to have a good string spacing, plus ill keep the tone i have now with the Ray34. (although i also have my eye on something else but thats just a possible maybe). Good luck with the sale. I would be tempted in the OLP but its really not my colour.
Hi, You might struggle with the string spacing on it Dave, it's closer to my old Corvette $$ 5 string, and nowhere near as wide as the DJ5, it's ok for me as I've small fingers, but the Barts and preamp on the 55-02 swayed me, could mod the MM32 but I'll know more after saturdays gig, who knows, if sat lottery comes in I may have Nigel Tufnells guitar collection, lol, Mark -
What are you looking at now Mark? That 55-02 by any chance?
Hi Dave, You know me so well, lol. I might just stick with this yet, am gigging it on Saturday night. But am tempted by the 55-02 yes. BTW Higgie now has your DJ5, believe he's gigging it somewhere in Essex at the weekend. How you getting on with your Musicman's? The GroovyPlucker -
what combinations does the 5 way switch provide for the pickups?
Hi, Only just got it, bit seems to be neck pu, next not sure, middle is both pickups, next unsure, bridge obviously bridge pick up, it's the same arrangement as my stingray 4HH I had, and it don't sound too far away from it either. There's not much info on the net I've found yet as the OLP site is now shut down. There is an awful lot of tonalality to this bass, gigging it saturday night and who knows I might just keep it yet! It's in near mint condition, plays impeccably well, as near as good as any Musicman I've played. In fact, they're now discontinued, and this particular model is very eagerly sought. Features basswood body, bolt-on North American maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, 34″ scale length, active electronics, two Musicman style pole pickups, 5-way pickup switch, volume and 3-band EQ controls. This one is in Black Cherry Burst Was gonna Mod this but am gassing after a lakland on here, this bass however would be a stingray killer when modded with say nordstrand pups and an aguilar preamp, but there are many routes you could go, works great as it is. £300

Just sold my Lakland DJ5 to Higgie there. Couldn't deal with a nicer, more decent bloke, great bass player too, check his you tube vids. Distance selling on this forum is great, so anybody with any doubts, it can and does work. Higgie paid promptly, and although there was a delay in delivery due to the backlog after the volcanic ash/flight delays scenario, he was very pleased with the Bass, and I hope himself and the DJ5 have some great gigs together, The GroovyPlucker
I'm really interested to know how the Audere and the Nordy's worked together. (I know the bass is sold, I'm just getting interested in this pickup/preamp combo) Andy
Hi, It depends what you're used to, I'm just Fender mad, and know how Active Fenders sound, and this combo don't sound like that. The Pickups are great and the Audere's fab. The one thing I would say is that it still retains the sound of the DJ5, and enhances it. You can get a lot of variety from pickup selection and toggle switching, just couldn't get that Fender bite that I love. Not sure if that answers any of you're questions, but as always, it's in the ears and fingers of the beholder. Have only ever tried Nordstrand and Seymour Duncan's as replacement pickups and have to say I couldn't find too much difference with them, as for the Audere, it's a great piece of kit, was in two minds whether to go DJretro or Audere, as both get similar reviews. Again, pickups and preamps are different in every bass and between every player, but I would try this combo again in a Jazz Bass scenario The GroovyPlucker
Can you just clarify... Dave had fitted Nordstand J and P pick-ups and added a push-pull volume pot. You've added the Audere. Are both pick-ups in the bass still Nordstrands and then you still have the original two pick-ups (presumably Laklands) and the passive controls and control plate and white scratchplate. Thanks.
Hi, Sorry only just saw your reply, yeah Dave's pickup arrangement is the same, I just added the Audere, have all the original parts tho, but, tis' now sold pending payment, Thanks The GroovyPlucker

Dave is the guy from whom I bought it from on this very forum, and was he who fitted the Nordstrand and Scratchplate, I added the Audere at a cost of around £200, inclusive of fitting. Words can't describe how beautiful this Bass is to look at, and to hold, anyone who's had one will know what I mean, only reason I'm letting it go is because it's not a Fender, and after all these years, I know now in my heart of hearts I am a Fender Man. I have this baby on ebay too, currently at £965, which is what I'm looking for it. This is a quality Bass, which is now discontinued, although a few online retailers seem to advertise their last stocks at around the £1100-1300 bracket, and this Bass is in near perfect condition. As for Trades, I want to sell this to finance my Schroeder Cabs [Am also selling my Fully Flightcased Ashdown 1x15, 2x10 Cab]. Need lightweight cabs, and ideally after 2x12, and 2x15 cabs at 8ohms, these cabs are about 800w handling, so can take one to small gigs, and deafen the singer at bigger nights [well it'll knock his EGO off course for a while, possibly]. Not really looking a 4x12, but if someone comes up with one maybe, also prefer Rhino Hide to that bleedin carpet stuff, but do want lightweight, powerful cabs. Comes with all the original parts to revert it back to Original.
Whats the body/neck balance like on them compared to a jazz?
Hi, It's pretty good, there is a slight lean headstock wise, but really nothing much, the main thing with the Jaguar is the small body wing at the bottom part of the body [is that the right term, sure it's not] this make's it more difficult to balance on your knee, and it also adds to the overall way the bass hangs on you while stood up, compared with a Jazz anyhow, which obviously contributes to the very slight neck dip, but believe me it is slight, the Jazz body is bigger. Overall tho, I much prefer my Jag to a Jazz, but if a Jazz were thrown at me I wouldn't say no, lol, The GroovyPlucker

Hi, Just throw in my twopence worth, having had both the Geddy Lee & Marcus Miller Basses, the Jaguar for me beats 'em both for range of tone, looks and playability. If it's the Marcus you need, for the tone, then grand, as it's quite a specific tone, and it's twice as heavy as the Jag, Geddy is also very atonal, if indeed that's a word, lmao, stick with the Jag, one of Fender's best, having tried most of they're models at some point, only thing that is similar in tone variation is the Stu Hamm Urge II, but twice the price, good luck, The GroovyPlucker
