1. Could be possible... RAM is made in sticks of smaller blocks, typically 64MB. 4.5Gb of RAM = (4.5 * 1024)/64 = 72 chips. Anyway, it's far more than most OTS computers have so I can't see there being any problem there.
2. IMHO: The different fret sizes only have advantages if you are wanting to change your playing style. For instance, a jumbo fret wire will inherently give you increased ease of playability; because your fingers aren't bottoming out on the fingerboard, you don't have to press as hard to fret a note or chord. The downside is that you need to adjust your playing style especially if you are used to playing on smaller frets, you'll tend to be heavy handed at the outset so your notes will be sharp and out of tune. The action will also feel a bit higher because you're used to feeling the fingerboard as you play, but as you get used to the wire you will notice the ease and speed in which you play. I'm sure sustain and attack come into it somewhere as well, as with narrow frets - there is more of a 'knife edge' surface, a more clearly defined node at the end of the string - so probably better sustain and more punchy attack would be obtained with narrow frets.
3. Sorry if this seems a tad obvious - but wouldn't the one to pick be the same as the one in your bass? Most pots say on them somewhere.
4. A nice bit of wood and double sided tape?
5. Fee-no-wood (fē'nowŏŏd)
6. Just to clear it up... The 'phenolic' fingerboards are made of a phenol resin - formed between phenol and an aldehyde; in this case, formaldehyde. Ped's Vigier will have 'Phenowood' - made by treating the wooden fingerboard with a phenolic resin, which rests in the cell walls - then compressed and heated, as it is a thermosetting plastic - to give a hard surface with very good resistance to humidity and moisture.
7. You could see if it's threaded by putting some pliers in/on it and twisting? Could also be glued.
8. Thanks for the endorsement BigBeatNut, and noted WarwickHunt - guide price added
9.
if anyone here buys it for the pups/bridge only , I'll give them a fiver for the 4 grub screws in the head end string retainer.
You can get them new off the Status site for about that much
10. Sorry for the slow reply, email notification seems to be rather iffy. Yes, I still have them for sale.
11. Any sound clips? Clean preferably
12. I found the sink gag most entertaining.
13. If not for the long upper horn I would have happily bought and played that upside down
14. Well, quite a bight tone usually - I can get a good slap sound out of it with a bit of EQ on the amp end of things, roll back the tone and it's quite pounding - put on some nylon wrapped strings and it can sound more 'URB' though. Not as versatile as the normal Status basses, but still got a good range of tones in it.
15. One of those wee portable fans? Thomas Truax uses one to make a butterfly-ish sound on "The Butterfly And The Entomologist" (See iTunes)
16. I didn't do that on my fretless project to be honest, as long as you are gentle enough pulling the frets out there will be very little sanding needed - certainly not enough to 'de-radius' the neck by any noticible degree.
17. Selling my Electro. made by Status Graphite 4 string Mahogany back, maple top Piezo pickup in the bridge - though good slap sounds can be produced. Semi-hollow bodied. Very light. Open to offers or trades - nothing Warwick, Fender or Fender-esque though. Price-wise, I have seen the 5 string fretted version for sale in and around the £800 mark, I would be looking around £500 for this.
18. Do it There are numerous de-fretting guides on the internet so I won't tell you how here, a google search should sort it for you.
19. I would play that
20. Dood, why do you do this to us On the prowl for a new fretted bass and I thought this one was finally beyond temptation!
