Who cares what he thinks

Erm, excuse me! Unless you are putting everyone thru the pa, surely the pa is the singers responsibility, or at least he should contribute more?
What saddens me is the number of 'young' bands that play a set full of Cream, Hendrix, Free and Bad Company........ BTW I'm a fifty something and can categorically state that I don't play Hey Joe in public you ageist git Pete ;-) The pub scene in my area has gravitated to Classic Rock acts, SKA tributes and Punk multiband nights. When I was doing Classic Rock I was on at least a gig per week. Now that I'm doing mainly 80s, I'm only doing 1 per month in the local area....
yep just the same here
There are an increasing number of bands chasing a decreasing audience.
yep that's it When I was young hardly anyone was a muso Now every one you meet plays It's a good thing But as with anything, if you increase the supply at a time when demand (for pub bands) seems to be dying, the price decreases
The going rate for four piece bands around our area is £200 and some of the pubs moan about that price. £400 for a pub gig in our area would be a no no.
unfortnately I think that is confirmation that pub gigs are truly dying. Why? Because we were earning an average of £400 per gig 10 years ago, yes 10 years ago. Sad, very sad

That awful feeling when you let some gear go.!!
I've got a cab for sale. And I'm absolutely gutted. I've had it for quite some time and I love it. But after being made redundant and having a mortgage to pay. I've got to let it go. Has lots sentimental value and sounds incredible. Hopefully it won't sell and fate will intervene. The thing is I've let basses go that I've made a huge mistake doing. I once let a Sei Jazz bass go for £900 7 years ago because I was in the same situation. Desperate.
-
Probably the most worrying question is Why are there so few young bands playing pubs?
-
It's hard running a pub. Really hard. It may help matters if bands were more sympathetic with landlords I used to get the gigs for a very successful pub rock band. If we were doing a new venue, I knew the landlord would be worried about what crowd we would bring. So I gave them two prices and let them decide what to pay us. Our normal gig fee would have been £400 then, so I'd agree with the landlord, if it was a good night pay us the £400, if not, pay us £200 or somewhere between the two that left him with a profit I think if you try and see things from the landlords viewpoint, it will repay you in time with him giving you more gigs. In other words don't gig for £400 with less punters in the pub than staff and expect to get booked again
I am having a hard time figuring out if the second hand, eighteen years old sr5 is worth £250 more than a Brand new ray35. Can someone tell me the correct answer to this riddle?
The riddle is easily solved The sr5 will be a far better buy despite its age and well worth the extra £250

Considering I played my first paid gig 48 years ago......
gareth replied to leschirons's topic in General Discussion
I think you have done well to have not been paid in just the two occasions you list I have been gigging as long as you and have been let down on two occasions too First some 10 years ago when going to get paid after a covers band gig, we were paid less than agreed by the venue, so that was the last time we played that venue, Second time was some 3 years ago when I played a function gig for a mate on mines band. He did not get paid, the venue doing the usual liquidation then immediately start trading again with a new company, walking away from there creditors. -
January is always a slow month for venues
Even better, they have a 4-ply version that won't have that translucent problem. I wonder how the Tort/mint green/black/mint green will look on a Honey Blonde bass
honey blonde is my fav finsh. Single ply solid white wud look great and is one if the cheapest they do
-
WD would cost about 160 quid including shipping and even worse it is translucent so you can see the control cavity through it
try WD UK then http://www.wdmusic.co.uk/pickguards-c62/fender-basses-c111/precision-bass-50s-road-worn-series-c311

I think that fender only do the anodised on in a 10 hole so you have to go to WD who do the 10 hole in other colours
