Thanks for that and what an amazing instrument that is. About the finish, I am no expert, but I think this bass has been refinished at some point. As far as I know, they used to use a wooden stick that was screwed to the neck pocket to hold the body when applying the nitrocellulose finish. That process left an unpainted rectangular mark on the neck pocket, like this:
