1. all this chatter about a bunch of wood, plastic, metal. magnets and wires
 2.
If vintage is your bag pre EB is good but comes with the same health warning as any vintage bass - for me the late 80s early 90s basses are also iconic - combining birds eye necks and in some cases cool rare colours.
+1 - I have a beautiful fretless 88 in the for sale thread this very minute
 3. I booked this band for my daughter's wedding - the bass player is a member on here - and can recommend them - a sh*t hot band http://www.5catfish.com/
 4. great basses these and a great price - these are exactly the same as the California series - I have had both and know this to be so - the only difference being the "Made in USA" sticker - and this is the one to have the passive not the dodgy fender electics active one.

 6. The BIG question for me is do I dare gig with this bass - on our last cd http://bobcollum.com/ we got Martin Belmont (currently touring with Graham Parker and the Rumour) to add some Fender VI lines above my bass - do I dare use it on its own as the main man bass player .........oooooooooooooh shall I?
 7. so to save me some time - has anyone worked out the notes for the fender vi solo in witchita yet?
 8.
The strangle circuit is a high pass filter and so you can expect some loss of overall volume associated with some loss of bottom end.
thanks yes
 9.
Gareth, this might interest you: http://www.offsetgui...10e9ef517683d3d
yes really interesting thanks - I am loath to change the bass from original - overall its a great bass and there must be some reason why squire/fender designed it this way, so I am gonna get used to it and us it as it is - thanks again
 10.
I'm finding it useful when I want to strum some big chords - hitting the bass-cut switch stops it getting too muddy. But then I flick it back for single-note runs on the bass strings. Admittedly, at first it did seem like a setting I would never want to use ...
when you do this do you find that there is a difference in volume levels between the two settings?
 11. Ok I got one of these today courtesy of ash (thanks very much and a very nice bloke to deal with ) but tell me what does the Bass-Cut "Strangle" Circuit do - it seems to make it more like a baritone in tone but boy does the volume drop when using this
 12. just bought ash's squire vi - very smooth deal good communications - highly recomnmended

 15.
It is not a Fullerton because 1) Fullerton reissue basses only lasted from 1982-1984. Fender/CBS sold the company in January 1985, and the new FMIC was not making them in 85 because the machinery nor the facility was not part of the sale. They started back up in '86, and switched to using CNC machines. 2) V03 serial number is no where near Fullerton serials, which stopped before V02. I estimate that bass being an '87-'88 FMIC era bass. All of these stack knob Jazz Basses from '82 up until '89/'90 have pots stamped 1982 because CBS bought so many in '82, it took so many years to finally use them up. Yes that is a very complete and original bass, just not a Fullerton

It could very well be a '80 model. The most misquoted serial series is the S8 serials, so many think it means 1978. It does not....the S8 serials spanned from '78 until well into '82.
good posts
 16.
? anything wrong going on with the strike through option or is it me (as usual) that I missed something.. ?
see above and should not have been struck thru
 17. your bass sn is 39188 - so from the above listing you can see that on this information alone (that is without seeing the pot dates, pup dates/bottoms, neck and body dates) your bass would appear to have been made in 1989 - 4 years after production moved from fullerton to corona
 18. ok so here is the thread that contained the chart - http://www.fenderforum.com/forum.html?db=&topic_number=477866&offset=66 - but it has disappeared as you can see - what you can see is the other posts - many of these showing owners with sns sub 40000 which were not fullerton
 19.
You're probably right, I didn't see the serial number. I know the red stackers were only made up to a certain year, and that tort guard is the same as the earlier ones, before they went to that awful material they still use today. So I assumed it was an '83ish one, but yes, the serial would suggest a much later example. As has been mentioned, you have to strip these things to see the real year, as the V0***** serial numbers seemed to run forever, from '83 to '89 even. That's why the V00**** numbers are so pricey nowadays, as they are all first year '82's. Pots would also tell you if you didn't want to take the neck off. Nice bass someone has snagged though (Sorry Karlfer!! )
I remember seeing a chart on fender forum some time ago that plotted usa vintage reissue sn's against year of manufacture and it broadly showed that the fullerton basses went beyond 10000 to about 14000. I have been unable to find this chart and if I find it I will post it on basschat. Regarding pot dates the story is that fender bought a whole load all dated 83 that were used on basses assembled after 1983 - so just cos the pots are dated 83 does not mean its an 83 bass - I suppose the same goes for body and neck dates too
 20.
Gone....Nice Fullerton reissue though, with one of the very few, decent pickguards........someone got a nice bass, at a fair price.
rick the sn was 41xxx - I do not think that is fullerton - do you? I wud estimate that it was made 1988ish
