1. its probably worth considering the sting bass which is the same bass but with a contoured body which many find more comfortable than the 51 slab
 2.
The buyer pays £795 to me. The buyer will have to pay a tax of about £200 separately for the customs of the UK. Is this answer all right?
thanks very much, so £795 to you £200 to them = £995 total
 3.
Week end price drop total £795
so say £800 plus say 25% import duty and vat = £200 = total £1000. Is that about right?
 4.
Yeah I was looking at that one Mark, not a bad price for an early-ish JV.
Lozz I do not think that this is an early one - the serial is JV6xxxxx - although it has the spiral bridge I think if you could see the wiring below the guard that it will be plastic rather than cloth and the pups will be Japanese rather than American - difficult to tell without photos - it sure looks like a nice bass - mmmmmmmmm white and maple
 5.
Im not sure, and I'm not in possession of a set of scales! It is surprisingly light compared to my other J basses. If you are interested I will go get it weighed .
yes I am interested - can you get it weighed and let me know the weight please
 6.
It's around 10lbs, so average for a 70s Jazz. The one you've got up for sale looks fantastic - there's a glut of nice 74 Jazzes on here at the moment!
like buses

 11. well done - great basses - particularly the early ones, which this one is
 12.
Comparing to cars, I've regarded Precisions more like London Taxis (or, if you want to remain Stateside, the Checker cabs). Utilitarian, hardwearing, fairly timeless and iconic, adequate performance.
yes I can see that - not the current black cabs as I understand that they are less than reliable, but the old style ones
 13.
"You can't beat Fender" That depends on your criteria. I love my Jazz. In 1974, aged 9, it was my first bass. However, when I compare to my current basses: - For tone (given the style of music I currently play) it comes last - For weight/transportability it comes last I still love it. But you shouldn't take your opinion and advertise it as a general fact. CB
I think you also need a precision which would probably be lighter than a jazz and give you different tones
 14.
After 30 years playing and going through some of the 'best' basses out there i still don't believe you can beat the fender p or jazz bass. Iv had basses costing 4k and some costing £40 its not the bass its in us to make the music. Iv played basses that have pre amps as sensitive as my **** and some dead as door-nails... I (personally) think you cant beat a fender. Right now im playing a fender usa p bass deluxe v and a line 6 variaxe (great) ... I think the fender is the best bass i have played in all ways, and while i know its a very personal thing... they really are the work horse of the bass world, at least for a jobbing bass player as i am.... yeah its nice to see exotic wood but paying 2k because of it and lets face it many end up for sale i simply cant see it anymore... i think id prefer a nice table top rather than a bass to look at for exotic wood... yeah it changes the sound...but at the end of the day Fender got it right...After playing pro for many years and using and selling many basses. You can get most tones in the fingers, where and how we play, anything else can come from the tone and amp controls, you can 'will the sound' out of most basses, rather than trying endless pre amp options.... This is just my view of course and i can say i have played everything from top end spectors to old p bass copies... personally i always come back to the work horse of the bass world... Fender.. and lets face it a nice one is by no mean cheap ! but i personally think they got it right. It could well be because 30 years ago the first bass i ever had was a kay p bass copy, so i guess i grew up with the shape and fender basses were the (and still are) the main axe for most players back then.
spot on - my thoughts entirely - but people like to be different, express their individuality so chose other basses - bit like Jeremy Clarkson says about cars, if everyone just acted logically, we would all drive VW Golfs (the car equivalent of the Fender Precision) I always like Leo's other creations
 15.
Weighed in at 9lbs 1oz today.
thanks for that
 16. very nice - how much does it weigh please?
 17.
If you want a P sound get a P. If you want a J sound get a J. A PJ is at best a compromise and at worst is the deformed spawn of Satan. Say a few prayers and be thankful you saw the light before it was too late.
I do not think you are right on this point. As far as I am aware with a pj if you turn the j pup off you are left with a pure precision sound - so the addition of a j pup at the bridge gives you the added sound option
 18. Have a bump on me. Great bass!! I have one in the same colour as my main gigging bass. What's not to like AND it has a custom shop pickup
 19.
I saw Bonnie Raitt at the Cliff's Pavilion in Westcliff last night. For some reason I had no great expectations about the gig, so was delighted to experience one of the most sensitive and emotional performances I have ever heard. What a voice! Bassist was unbelievably good with such a light touch you would barely notice him. Everything he played seemed *exactly* right for the song, from acoustic blues through Jazz to soulful ballads and even reggae. And on an assortment of instruments - Jazz, Jaguar, EUB, acoustic fretless (upon which he excelled) - even some strange little thing that looked like a ukulele but sounded like a bass. One of the best gigs I have seen for an age. If you get a chance to catch her this time around try to make the effort.
yes I was there too - one of the best shows I have seen for a long long time - went to see her on the first date of her uk 2013 tour last nite as southend - one of the best shows I have seen in a long time - the\ band is her American long term band so they are fully played in with the highlight being Neil Finnigan, keys man (including Hammond b3 - lovely) who played on hendrixs electric ladyland and also with joe cocker amongst others - highly recommended - go see if you can - http://www.bonnierai...tour-dates-2013
 20.
The OP is correct. Nitrocellulose lacquer finish and tweed hard case are the improvements made for the 2013 Classic Series '60s Jazz Bass. Nitro is only available on the sunburst model though. Black and white models are still available but at the old spec (poly finish, no case!)
thanks I did not know that - yes nitro is definitely an improvement worth having
 21. Having never played one and without detracting from the comments above, I do have a CS 64jazz, which is very nice in all respects but not standout. For those who have tried the Pino and other CS basses, is the Pino truly superior?
