1.
This used to be mine- it's truly a regular gigger's delight! Lightweight, balances perfectly, with all the tones and features you'll ever need. Glad to see that Gareth has taken such good care of this...
thanks yes i never have understood why users do not care for their basses
 2. thanks for all the comments and trade offers.I have considered these but the bass is still available. Dealing with specific posts:-
Sale price at all?
please pm me
How about a Shuker 51 P Bass, you can see it on Jon's web site, Off white, black pickguard, maple neck and Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder. It was completed at end of 2010 and is unmarked. John
thanks but no thanks
Oh hell, I've wanted one of these for years but the beloved 73 P would be the only trade option. I need to consult the oracle before going any further!
i'd be interested in this trade

 5.
I've never heard of 'Vintage White' being a colour?? Apart from people describing reissue colours as such? Lovely looking bass Gareth, surprised it's still available, sign of the times i guess!
thanks for that

 10.
Great choice WoT! SiverFoxNik's RB V's are among the best sounding basses I've heard and imagine the IV must be similar
no completely different instruments really
 11.
Am i missing something? £750 for a squier?

It's a '83/'84 Japanese made Fender which at the time blew the socks of anything that was coming out of America. The build quality was flawless (unlike a lot of US stuff at the time). These JV series basses are highly regarded and sort after and command a decent price. I've owned a couple of SQ Precisions and they were excellent in every way.

without the damage on the headstock and the buckle rash it would prob be way over a grand
bump
 12.
Yes they are: http://www.dutycalcu...ax-calculation/ In fact, any insurance costs over and above shipping costs are also subject to the duty and tax.

They are... 13.
Add the price you pay for the item and the price of shipping. You'll pay approximately 25% of that total as tax. For example: £500 (bass) + £100 (shipping) = £600 total value. 25% x £600 = £150 tax So, total cost to you = £750
vat/duty are not charged on the shipping cost so in youre examples its 25% on £500 not £600
 14.
Hi y'all, and Happy New Year!! Anybody have any experience of buying a used bass from the US? Have my eye on something and was wondering if I would have to pay import tax/vat on it and also what it would cost to have it sent over and finally who is the most reliable carrier? Cheers!
go 4 it i have bought a couple of used basses from usa never had a problem recently i have used USPS, they can ship for around $110 once in this country they have a tie up with parcelforce and your bass will be deilivered by them before delivery parcelforce will invoice you for the duty/vat - about 22-25% - plus admin fee of some £10 once you have paid the invoice they will deliver your bass hope this helps
 15.
+1 - the last £14 is not worth the hassle IMHO
my thoughts also
 16.
Gareth, are you actually Leo re-incarnate and is your loft a secret master build workshop . All the best, Karl.
no i just like leo basses - nothing else really

 20.
I've bought from Andy and altho he's my only experience of a vintage dealer, so no comparisons, I found him great, up front, knew his stuff and felt that his stuff is priced realistically and honestly. You can go to his place also and try out.
+1 for andy baxter - realistic prices for a dealer and good service/support
£2000 is definitely realistic for a private sale. Yep, there's diamonds and dogs in that era and the ratio of dogs to diamonds increases from about '74 onwards. Make sure you try before you buy.. most 34" basses (not just Fenders) are susceptible to the dead spot, but IME it has to be pretty severe to be noticable whilst gigging or recording. Don't get too hung up looking for a Sadowsky-like neck pocket - you could be looking for a while. Just make sure it feels stable. Check for fretwear - the frets on bound necks can be replaced, but it's time-consuming and expensive. And, be aware of the weight if it's something that bothers you. Some 70s Jazzes are heavier than a bus. (Incidentally, as for Fender vs. Boutique, to be blunt.. you won't have much of a problem with resale if you go Fender. If you buy a new boutique bass, make sure you're prepared and able to take a hit when you sell it.)
the neck cavity problems are mainly concerned with the later jazzes especialy when they went over to the 3 bolt design
 21.
. Don't confuse the Epiphones with the Gibsons, they have nothing in common except shape and colour.
This is so true I've just got a beater 74 ebo and it is a much, much better and different instrument from my korean eb3 - the difference is extreme If you want to beef up an eb3, bassdoc is selling a gibson ebo pup for £90 elsewhere on this forum. I am really a fender man and do on balance prefer fender basses, but in terms of short scale basses, i prefer this beater ebo to the fender equivalent short scalers the msuatng and musicmaster.
 22.
It's Olympic White. 70s Fenders age to a creamy yellow over time. It's the degradation of the poly coating that does it. The finish beneath will still be the original colour. This is a 76P I had for 35 years: http://basschat.co.u...ost__p__1226142 You can see the original colour where the poly coating is worn away.
thanks for clarifying that
