  1. That's thrown me, I could have sworn i could hear the difference. The power of auto suggestion, I shall report back after further investigation!
  2. for gigs I use a bf super compact with a bf midget. Really easy to carry individually and they stack well. I can fill a small hall with a gk mb200, at a push. Gk mb500 fusion is more than enough for any gig I've done. The midget on its own keeps up with a loud drum kit so fine for rehearsals and really easy to carry. The only drawback gigging I've found is I can mess with the eq for quite some time until I get a nice fenderesque thump. I've just got a darkglass head with cab sim built in, you can turn it off if you want clean, it seems to go well with the bf cabs but no gigs yet, so only tried it in my living room so far. Having read the thread I really don't rate trying cabs/amps out in shops. They never sound the same when there's no band. I buy second hand, and if I don't get on with it sell it on. I might loose a bit of cash, but nothing like as much as buying new, and it's a lot less nerve racking. Oh, the other thing about bf cabs is they do need breaking in, they sound much better after a few hours of hard playing. I don't know if that's true for all cabs. Good luck!
  3. I've just bought a lovely Darkglass Amp from Jonny in really good condition, the amp that is, dont know about Jon. He was very flexible and accommodating over my delivery preferences . A really nice guy and easy purchase. Many thanks
  4. I had my first big drive out of Wales since lockdown to buy a crackin bass off Mark. Great to talk "bass" with someone, your wife did manage to be interested for teh first 20 mins. you've a top woman there!
  5. I'm not a pick player, looks like I'll have to try. Really looking forward to it! X
  6. I was chatting to a regular bc'er who said he always bought basses the same colour so his wife didn't notice the new arrival. Top tip I thought!
  7. Don't need another bass, but if it makes me look that cool and play that well.... Lovely video.
  8. Dear Jamie, a pleasure buying the stingray from you. Many thanks Jo
  9. I use xvives too. Great sound and convenience but not good on any active basses I've got and it knocks out the house wifi, not so serious but it also knocks out the bands behringer digital mixer, do I don't use it live.
  10. Just bought a Mike Lull from Jeff. He traveled two and a half hours to meet me, met me from the station, bought me a gluten free lunch, let me noodle till I was happy to part with the dosh. What a lovely knowledge man. Thank you Jeff!
  11. I play a passive PJ, admittedly 90% P but when the band plays an instrumental I'll often switch to the J to cut through more, then back to the thumpy P to keep out of the way of the vocals. Could do the same with the tone control, or amp EQ but I can leave everything set up as it was this way.
  12. Don't drink more than a pint in advance. I like my beer, but never ever more than a pint beforehand. Things I've played for years become totally unfamiliar after the first pint!
