Last night in the Palau da Musica, Barcelona, Ignasi Terraza, a Spanish jazz pianist who I had never heard of before, but was superb. He was joined by an excellent vibraphone player and later a singer and a flautist/ sax player. All superb and in possibly the most beautiful concert hall on the world.

That bass with the ridiculously narrow strap he has must have taken its toll on his shoulder.

What a shamed the foto flame is coming off, I often wondered how durable it was going to be. If you’re wanting “vintage “ finish and sunburst isn’t an option , then provided the fiesta red is that slightly faded salmon colour that most were in the 60’s then go for that. @Trebis probably right that it will need a tort plate to look vintage. From what you’ve said it sounds like your are planning to have this done professionally, I think that’s a good call u less you’re really skilled in the art of spraying.

I’ve owned 2 USA Fender Ps and a Jazz, all sold and currently have a Mex P. I can’t tell the difference except the neck is on the Mex P is more like a Jazz. I like them but I don’t think they are particularly different to other basses.

I think you’re right. I had a 76 Precision which had an accident and took off part of the front part of the headstock. It split along the grain and was easily stuck back. But supposing this happened on a tour ( the schedules back then were torturous) no opportunity to get it to a luthier or even get to a shop for some wood glue. May also explain why he switched to the Gibson bass or that might have just been following the fashion for semis in the 60s.
