These BaCH basses are beginning to become a family thing. My brother, another bass player, has ordered the five string in the style of a 51 precision in black and white.

Warwick offer the Star bass in daphne blue- similar to Pelham.

Something of the old Gibson RD about it too.

Don't they have a reputation for dodgy electrics?

If you can find them La Bella Low Tension flats would probably be ideal, they are also thinner than most flats so fit a nut cut for normal round wounds.

Thanks Basvarken. Interesting info, Korea and Czech Republic seems a good combination. My 2 Spectors are one from Korea and one from the Czech Republic and both are cracking good basses, but cost a lot more than the BaCH.

Good find. I remember the Maya's being thought of as one of the better Jap copies . Strange to think that today we wouldn't call Japanese crap. I hope your going to keep the very cool bridge and pickup covers.

Thanks for this info Bassvarken. Perhaps you can clarify where they actually got them made up, the quality seems good, perhaps too good for China.

Bridge was fitted by a local guitar maker I know who usually specialises in acoustics. However he did a cracking job, for a very reasonable price, it's up and working fine strung with Chrome flats. Hope to post some new pictures shortly. Interestingly the "mud bicker" type pickup isn't muddy, has a nice clear resonance and a reasonable range of tones , better than I expected.

Can't stand relics it is such a false thing, they don't look good, they look awful. When you look at a genuine old well used instrument they look completely different to a new one to which someone has taken a sheet of sandpaper. I have always tried to look after instruments not wreck them.

Ric Sanders, the fiddle player in Fairport Comvention, pulls one out to play when Dave Pegg switches to mandolin. Sounds ok but as a fiddle player he's probably used to fingering notes close together.

If you've got a reasonable acoustic already, why not just by a quality piezo pickup and install it. L.R.Baggs are brilliant, they make an alternative to the piezo that is actually a microphone which sticks under the top and does require removing the bridge saddle. It has a volume control that fits neatly on the edge of the sound hole. All you need to do is drill a hope where the rear strap button fits and insert the jack. Called the Lyric it's excellent. I have one in my Taylor acoustic.

If you still need suggestions, Spector Coda, but why a jazz?

Who needs adjectives? Take us away and there's a chasmic hole in the sound!

Depends if "cool" is a look or a sound? The late Chas Chandler and the late Jack Bruce would have to be there for sound although Jack seemed to be putting in a bit more effort than some. Dave Pegg, Kyle Eastwood, Duck Dunn (who else could smoke a pipe at the same time as laying down terrific grooves), Kinga Glyk ( it's the hat that doesn't for her), so for both stunning playing and cool look she gets my vote.

If Chinese fakes can come up with pretty figured woods laminated to the tops, surely all the resources of Fender could do the same. Also if they want to play the "traditional" card, where are fiesta red and lake placid blue. These are forever getting mentions as favourites here along with candy apple red (this should be available just out of respect for the late Duck with a gold anodised plate of course).

I think I had a shirt in that design! 😂 Anyone remember the leather covered Martins? Now that really deadened the response!

Is it an optical illusion but the dark red Squier on the right seems to have a larger body than the others on the front. Obviously those on the sofa will look smaller due to perspective.
