1.
Agreed. Very strange relic'ing
Me too! Doesn't look real at all, may be the kind of distress you'd get on a well used kitchen table. Perhaps that is the secret, he's cutting the bodies out of old tables!
2. Had the same trouble trying to find a gig bag for my BaCH EB2 long scale. Bought a couple which the measurements indicated might fit, but then they didn't, problem seemed to be waist position and width of upper bout. That one from Thomman looks hopeful.
3. The original Gibson did look cool and modern at the time. Another great bass player who used one occasionally was Chas Chandler of the Animals, although his prefer was for the Epi Rivoli, there was TV footage of him with an EB3 playing we gotta get out of this place. I think the long scarce with the slotted headstock looks totally wrong! Sorry if you've got one but I think the look awful.
4. If you like short scale and don't mind neck dive! Back in the 60s loads of people used them (the Gibson original) but they went out of fashion and production. They were probably a bass that was designed for guitar players converting.
5. Look at Spector's Korean ranges, I love my Spectorcore and others say the Legend is great. Super value, well within your price range and brilliant quality.
6. Lovely looking bass. I've always thought Yammies were likely to be heavy, how's this one?
7. In addition to the site for Bach's that Howdenspur found, I bought a discontinued EB2 style bass from Bach. It may be worth an email to them to see if they have an remainder stock. (They stopped selling semis because of threats from Gibson the same may be the case with their birds).
8.
I've never seen them before, that's a great price! Do you know if they offer any other colours/fingerboards?
i think his stock is the sunburst, but there was discussion here with "JOW" about other colours. He was offering to get a run if there were sufficient buyers wanting a particular colour. Why not email them and see, nothing ventured nothing gained!
9. Check out JOW dirty bird. Loads on this forum about them, well thought of.
10. Re another of these, there's one on eBay for €599 from somewhere in Germany (new).
11. Welcome to the semis. Looks very Gretschesque to me. Used to have an EB2 and I'm sorry to say it played like a dog so if this plays well you're better off!
12. I remember seeing Ashey Huhcings in the Albion Band using one of these. Funny how 2 bass players renowned for being folkies used such modernist instruments!
13. Great looking guitar, jaguar meets rickenbacker! You describe it as "blonde" , is it a paint finish or is there grain showing through as per natural?
14. So everyone talks about them being light. Having given up Ps and Js as too heavy what do these weigh?
15. Brilliant! You are so fortunate. Did you still get caught for VAT on import?
16. Are you sure it was the bass that sounded good not the amp? I'm told that they are really difficult to re-fret.
17. I don't understand where this "glossy is sticky" comes from. There was a time when all guitars and basses had glossy necks and now we call them vintage and ask ridiculous prices for them! Just keep them clean.
18. The guy selling this has only been on eBay for 1 month, to be avoided.
19. Ibanez SRF700 or Aria FEB (semi) both come unlined.
20. Much nicer than a Fender.
21. Looks great. I think all basses should be chambered! I wonder what it weighs?
22. Have a look at voxshowroom.com where you'll find an article about it. The bass player of Paul Revere and the Raiders who were Vox endorses had one and says the neck was awful. He e rntually took the neck off and replaced it with a Fender neck to make it playable. There's another for sale in the US for a tad over £1700, bit cheaper than the eBay one.
23. I always thought they were short scale, ass many if not most basses were I. The 60s other than Fender and Ricks.
