  1. After looking more In to It apparently Its a VM 77 jazz so yeh very 70's!
  2. Picked this up yesterday, ICS serial says a FSR? Who knows.. 2013 and In mint condition. It just a little gem! Lightest Jazz I've ever owned, soft maple body In dark amber. It plays superbly, really low action, no sharp frets. Got a new loom, bone nut and standard jazz control knobs on the way. May stick In a set of pickups too. Anyone else got one of these and did you do any upgrades? Quarter pounders or Antiquity's? Or what? Want the growl of a jazz with a bit more bottom end... Well happy with It. It plays better than my MIM Jazz and CV Jazz!
  3. Are they as good as the old crafted In China ones?
  4. This is my 1999 crafted In Indonesia PJ special standard, I bought off a member on here and It's one of the best basses I've owned. I've owned Jaydees through fenders MIM and USA's but this thing Is killer. Jazz width neck but just plays and feels better than all the others I've owned (barring the JayDee) Although the neck is slimmer than the Jaydee which I like. Only thing is...It's heavy. Whoever made this one In 1999 must have got his oats off his missus the night before!
  5. Tried switch cleaner, the volume pots both fully work. No broken wires. It's a mystery!
  6. Nope. Exactly the same as before!
  7. So even with my crap ability to solder I managed to clean most of the crap off and followed the diagram. Put it all back together and exactly the same! Oh and I really burned me thumb.
  8. I'm gonna have a crack at It tonight, If I balls It up I'll go for a Kiogon . Is this how It should be?
  9. Also the jack socket has one earth and a red and a white wire? Is that normal?
  10. Should It have all those earth wires? When I looked on google at diagrams there were only a single earth wire going to each pot!
  11. It's how I bought it mate. Looked a bit dodgy when I opened It up. Think someone may have fitted new pickups at some stage in it;s life. Unfortunately i'm crap at soldering!
  12. Some pics of the wiring, I can't see anything wrong but I know sod all about electrics.
  13. Squier PJ Special standard. I'll try to take a pic of the wiring later after work.
  14. Yes the tone control works fine, as I said, Tone full up both volume pots work as they should, Tone off Both volume pots only work for the last 10% of their travel... Weird.
  15. No one know what's whats wrong here?
  16. Just cleaned the pots and found that If I turn the tone pot full up the volumes work normal on both pickups ! When I turn the tone full off there's no volume until the very last bit of the turn!! Anyone know what's going on here?
  17. Folks, both my volume pots on my PJ only work when they're full on, are they worn out and if so what pots do i buy to replace them? Cheers for any help.
  18. Does anyone know If a standard fender scratchplate will fit this bass? 14 screw holes? Cheers.
  19. Bought a Squier PJ Standard from Chris. Excellent comms and fast delivery. (Sent me the bass to try before buying) !! Highly recommended. Thanks Chris. Geoff
  20. I think the nut is its original position, From these pics I've found of an Identical bass It looks like there's a piece of wood missing from behind the nut. http://www.gitarion.pl/galeria/basowe/hohner_p-bass_copy/hohner_p-bass_copy.html# There does seem to be some old glue where that piece of wood would have been.
  21. Anyone know If a standard fender p bass scratchplate will fit this? Cheers
  22. I thought the nut looked wrong but I've checked the intonation and It's spot on! I like the sound of the Pick ups so will keep It. I gotta change the rubber underneath them as It's perished and the pick up Is not seating straight. The control knobs are made of some 70's plastic so may change them to chrome ones. Took the neck off to check truss rod which works OK, and It has a block built body. Can't moan for £50 😂
  23. Ta mate. It really plays well, great action. Gonna redo all the electrics, have some aged scratchplate screws coming and gonna stick an ashtray over the bridge. It's In fantastic shape for a bass of this age. Pickup rubbers have perished so needs some work there. I'm over the moon with It! Thanks for the Info.
  24. Just bought this for £50 Made In Japan Hohner P bass, all original apart from the screws on the scratchplate! Any Info On these chaps? Really plays well!
  25. Here's where I'm up to. Reshaped Headstock, decal added, tinted neck, sprayed scratchplate cream. Just a bridge ashtray and then I'll decide if I wanna smash the body up a bit! It's been fun.
