1.
For some reason I just don't like stacked knobs which could reduce the number. I don't like the feel of them, or the height. Then there's the two buttons (not knobs) which are essential for the VB99 and an active/passive switch that I did look at hiding round the back or side but it wasn't really workable.
Not into push/pull pots either?

Copies

I guess one thing we can agree on is it has certainly reduced the amount of creativity guitar manufacturers need to show. The amount of times I've seen an NBD post of a bass I've never heard of and then opened it up to see.. Oh, it's a Jazz. You can say knockoff and I'll say Homage. Although it would be nice if there were more choice than there seems to be.
3. No need to mention equipment except, yes.. I have a bass... yes.. I have an amp.
4. On a brief tangent I find it weird that people are surprised when women are virtuoso bassists or guitarists when if someone said a woman was a virtuoso pianist or violinist nobody would blink. Odd really.

Copies

Yeah, where do you draw the line. I have a maruszczyk on order that you could... for arguments sake call a "P Copy" but it has a pickup config and colour set that Fender haven't done and cost more than some basses that have the official "Fender" logo on them. You see this is where copy starts to move into "homage" territory. The P and the J are classic shapes and are almost entrenched in people's psyche above and beyond the original models. And... you know... we're still calling them P's or J's, it's just shorthand but removing the word "copy" because there's the implication they're not as good when... sometimes... they're superior to the originals.
6. Christ! That's got more knobs than a police station!
7. Admittely I'm saying this with a Maruszczyk on order and plans to buy a fretless at the bass show, BUT.... That said, I made some big changes in my life to stop myself buying crap and it's actualy... weirdly... improved my quality of life because I'm putting my effort into different things rather than just "buying X to feel better". So yeah, you've got to watch GAS. But letting it out now and then isn't so bad.
8. Obviously for standard notation Sibelius is king, there are others like the freeware MuseScore. But you're doing kind of John-Cage-y stuff there. You're probably best knocking something up on a sibelius demo and then screenprinting and importing into an image manipulation program like GIMP/Photoshop. If you're not careful I'll pull out my "music for 4 washing machines" score.
9. Christ! With a quote like that if you didn't get a "happy ending" I'd be pretty ticked off.
10. I'll be there in the morning running round like a blue arsed fly trying to buy a fretless.
11. Only sold a few things and they were all low grade so meh... 3 of the were Aria Pro 2 (4 string, 4 string fretless and 5 string) and the other was a fretless mexican jazz which I hated. I've not sold anything actually "good" yet, but I am missing a fretless at the minute, a problem I'll remedy in about 2 weeks.
12.
Sorry Synthaside, but another reason why you should stick to writing code - what on earth is an upcoming pregnancy?
A statement of intent.
13. Hmm... Thinking I might see if music man have any fretless 'rays there as well.
14.
I've had that happen too, except they weren't next door, they were actually in the next studio but one. The band that was next door had given in and left.
I've also noticed that the bands that do this tend to play the most generic dull bollocks imaginable that nobody would want to listen to at any volume.
15.
Now, THAT is a great idea. Thank you for the suggestion!
Here to help!
16.
then all off to the pub with my ashes .
I'm absolutely up with your idea. If it were me I'd make sure they bring out a big cake at the pub and spread my ashes on top of the cake and nobody is allowed to leave until they eat a piece of cake. Also: Make sure they don't grind me up too hard when they cremate me so I can still be a pain in the arse after I'm gone.
17. I think if you haven't listened to music though really loud speakers it's difficult to understand the true power of bass. All those low frequencies blowing at you, through you.
18. Talking of butterflies, moths are arseholes, right? I mean, what a bunch of w***ers. Flying around with their this and that. Fair enough, call me an insect racist but f*** moths.
19.
If they are wearing a hat, have a bushy beard and turn out to be bald, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
Coastguart anti-hipster division specifically (says the bald bloke with a small beard who wears a hat in the winter because BEING BALD IS COLD, OK?!?)
20.
oh the non-toll bit... I don't want to be elitist about it
I was thinking if you did it on the Toll then your rotting corpse would be more likely to upset posh bankers trying to get to their next meeting quickly.
21.
I don't want a funeral... I want to be fly tipped in a hedge down the side of the M6...
Toll or non-toll?
22.
This is true... similarly anyone who has "My Way" at their funeral invariably spent 40 years working for the tax office, had zero interests or hobbies and spent their evenings / weekends watching BBC approved light entertainment...
I want the birdie song playing, what does that say about me? Mind you I also want the coffin to have a spring in it that gets set off part-way through the funeral so it looks like I've sprung back from the dead for a minute.
23.
I regard the electric bass as a portable, easily amplified alternative to the double bass.
Which is exactly what it is. It's Bass Guitar as in a mash up of a Contrabass and a Guitar. String spacings etc all give that away, Whereas something like the Bass VI is a Bass Guitar as in the bass version of a guitar. Same name, different reasons.
24. Yeah What this lot said. But also don't be offended by people not replying and certainly don't call them timewasters. Just because you send a message to someone does not make them honour-bound to reply. Having been someone on the receiving end of this (while doing electronica stuff) there was a point about 10 years back where, frankly, if I was responding to every request for a compilation track or remix and the resulting responses to responses I would never have got any actual work done.
