Yeah - and sadly not being nearly as innovative as the original elites.
Now a reissue of the 80's P elite . . . that I could be tempted by. Here's an original for context:

Jesus, that will be a pingy d and g on that bridge pickup.

2. Oh no, it's just history isn't it....

Company gets good, people buy loads
Company gets great
Owner of company gets offer of massive buyout
Owner says fair enough
New owners ship manufacturing somewhere
Company drops in quality.

Not saying it WILL happen but if the cycle of history has taught us anything.....

3. Aaargh.... Keep.... Flip.... Flopping.

Ok, my reasoning now is this. Maruszczyk might (in the realms of who-knows-what-will-happen-in-10-years) get bought out.... I can make something uniquely me there... I can always get an HH stingray down the road. Damn.... I think the Maruszczyk might be winning. I'll make my decision in March with a clearer head.

4. If you're playing at home then yeah, get a small one first. Maybe even (and this may be blasphemous to some people) buy the game "Rocksmith 2014", it's immense fun and will keep you playing.

I have to admit that when I practise alone I do it not plugged into anything, at most I might use my bass attack into a computer and then listen on headphones, but the big thing for me is being able to hear the metronome or drum track.

Which leads me to the other thing. If you're on your own, get a metronome or drum machine app for your phone or an actual physical drum machine metronome. These are the best learning tools you can buy.

As to basses. It seems from what I hear the best bang-for-buck basses out there at the moment are the Sire Marcus Miller basses, but you might not like the "Fender Jazz" look.

5. For harder stuff nothing beats hammering downpicked playing. Every technique is worth exploring to see whether it's for you. It really annoys me when I see people who are either "no slapping" or "no pick".

As if for some reason there are gatekeepers of bassplaying who think you're only allowed to play with index and middle finger and nothing else. /rant

6. I played a Ray5 and loved it. It wasn't stealth black though so I didn't buy it. Ok, looks like I might be sticking with plan A and when I feel like I can buy another bass I'll get a fretless Maruszczyk.

I need a grunty workhorse that looks great as well as sounds great and the stealth HH fits the bill.

7. So I've been listing after the 5 string Musicman Stingray HH stealth black because.. I mean.... Look at it.

http://s141.photobucket.com/user/brendon8303/media/Guitars/Music%20Man/16MusicmanStingray5HH_03.jpg.html

I was after the HH for the flexibility but I was figuring if I get Adrian to make a "Stealth Black" 5 string Jake with a split coil, tappable humbucker and active/passive switch I could probably cover off the P, traditional Stingray and Jazz bridge sounds..

What do you think? Would it fit the bill? I know there's a lot of love for Maruszczyk basses and the guy seems to be at his prime in a pre-CBS Fender way at the moment, so I'm tempted to get one instead of the Stingray.

8. Yeah, bad timing. I'd love to do the whole day but the Sunday is totally out and I can only make the Saturday morning. Priority 1 is trying stuff and possibly (very likely) buying but I'm going to try and make a master class or performance.

9. Hi everyone. I know ebony gets used in fretboard constuction a fair bit but I've never seen an ebony body. Does anyone know why? Is it the weight? Is it a lousy tonewood?

I know lookwise an all ebony bass would likely be quite striking so I'm wondering.

10. So for people who've been there before I have a question. I have the saturday ticket but it looks like I'm going to have to get in.... buy stuff... get out as I have a wedding evening do to go to so I'll have to leave the show at 1PM (booooo) is that enough time to get round a good few booths and figure out what to buy? I've no idea how big this thing is.
