1.
This. Every time.
Yes, always a winner.
2. Aaron Copland: Fanfare For The Common Man. Been done to death over the years and at times, sounding like a funeral march. As one YouTube poster said. "If this don't give you Goosebumps, you must be dead"..... Just an opinion of course. This is a particularly good performance. http://youtu.be/0KxMc_tyQBo
3. Funny enough, more likely on the same hunt, same tune, I ran into this.... EDIT: It didn't give me goosebumps, so maybe I should not have posted, but to me, it was an excellent vocal performance.
4.
Did anyone do a Funk version of Bridge Over Troubled Water.?
A couple of people I know are involved with this very nice arrangement. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWIm8Coq4zI
5. Quite an innovator was Herbie. He even tore up the Disco charts in the 70's (with his use of the Vocoder). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uU7ZCUGnROk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hoqAF9ezm1M
6.
I bought Rockit on12" vinyl when it first came out and promptly never heard of him again until a few years ago. I didn't appreciate exactly who we was. Think it's in the garage somewhere. It's not particularly funky but has a great groove and is probably his most famous number.
I think Chameleon, Watermelon Man and Maiden Voyage are his most known numbers. But, who knows...A lot of folks ain't heard of him at all. Quite often his fantastic tasteful, Acoustic Jazz Piano playing is over looked by his Synth offerings. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ydAwV5RMwBs The story behind Watermelon Man, along with a version with his Trio. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RzPZvKSdN7g
7.
Sorry.... failed joke. (Note to self... be serious )
I must admit, the OP title did make me chuckle. It read like some kind of masterbation technique. What's not to like about Mr Hancock? http://youtu.be/FgBrPQCSdW4
8.
You mean there's more than one man with that name? Wow! Confusing!
Fail. There is only ONE Herbie Hancock.
9. Not sure what genre this falls under. But, it's great (well I think so). Check out the groovy Bass playing from 'Tom Barney' The vocals and harmony are beautiful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwTajmA_ycs
10. Sorry, just had to post this track because of a comment I noticed regarding Funk and the 70's ....... "Too bad the 80s came along and f***ed it all up! Lol...." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4FCs4p9oqA
11. A friend of mine just posted this on Facebook. And as he says..." The sickest and best "pocket" I know"...He has a point. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-IkxQ6Vyis
12. Haha... I still love this album, with great playing all round.
13. Electric Bass Player and Double Bassist. Or which ever definition pays the most on the night. Anything really, as long as it's not 'The never again'.
14. I like him, he really does humour me. I suppose in a way, some of his music does as well.(Although two or three tunes he was involved with I liked). Which ever way you view him, he is always good for a laugh. Either with him, or at him. I love my Jazz, playing and listening to it. Same as anything though, to my ears, there is good Jazz and there is bad Jazz.
15. Yes, Mr Schifrin. Wonderful. Paul Jackson Jnr is playing Guitar on this as well.
16. I have this album. It's lovely. Although BL wrote the tune, there is an earlier version he recorded with Ronnie Laws. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMMgGyvgI-4
17.
Ouch, tough crowd! stingrayPete1977, maybe I should hire you as my agent!
Yo Dave, dear boy. Just had a good listen for the first time. I thought the band sounded great, with what I should imagine, was very little rehearsal time? For what it's worth, I heard very little 'Boogie Woogie Bugle Guy' Piano from JH. He did what the arrangements required.
18. Top American session Guitarist Paul Jackson Jnr, covering Luther's 'Never Too Much'. Right in the Groove. http://youtu.be/NrkXfOS6d4Q

21.
^^This just about sums it up for me. How any of the armchair critics can know what/how little she would have heard on a giant stage in the middle of a noisy square if her monitors were off/not working is beyond me, especially when you have the weight of expectation that she always has in terms of performance. I'm sure the papers will have loved the "diva" meltdown as they saw it, but I only saw someone struggling with really bad sound. I am not particularly a fanboi of Mariah either, but I can think of how worked up I get when I try to pitch backing harmonies in our band and I can't hear a thing.
Agree with you and EBS_freak. It must have been a nightmare.
22.
Can't see this posted anywhere so I thought I'd share as the video made me chuckle... http://thehardtimes....-support-group/
I am glad you started a thread. I posted this morning, but it was hidden away in another thread, http://basschat.co.u...ost__p__3207878
23. A real melodic concert. Vocals and harmony are really on top of it. (good band as well). Pro's at the top of their game: Manhattan Transfer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZdHYPei6m1w
24.
So it was neither Gunnarson nor Watson on Voulez Vous then...
Google shows up a player called Arnold Paseiro. "To record the track Voulez Vous, Abba travelled to Nassau in the Bahamas. They used the Latin/Disco band Foxy as their backing track and this created a strong disco groove for the track. Paseiro had played with George McCrae and the great Betty Wright among others. Paseiro, originally from Miami (born 1950) had a big input to the track and suggested the instrumental section at the end of the track. He grooves like mad throughout but does show restraint where necessary. The lines are textbook disco but so well done: Good Times/Superstition style quarter notes, octaves, galloping figures…he leaps high up the neck to echo the horn riffs near the end of the track. Overall the song has a smoldering intensity."
25.
Boom http://www.sykestranscription.com/transcription-archive/
Lovely Jubbly and thanks for the link. I have just downloaded some stuff - Very accurate notation. There is a ton of good stuff for download.
