1. Low Riders: Bass Player Support Group. http://youtu.be/f3O_P23UBfE
 2. Although Rutger Gunnarsson played on most of the stuff, a British (session) Bass player called Mike Watson also did a bit. Full list of the studio musicians here, with some interesting little stories. http://felpin80.tripod.com/ata/id41.html This is a really good insight into the ABBA Basslines and worth a read (The Bassists of ABBA). https://philwbass.com/2014/01/02/the-bassists-of-abba/
 3.
Is it me or do all Seasick Steve's songs sound the same - droning bottom string guitar, and everything twice as long as it should be?
You have to go back to the mid 70's to hear something different. https://www.theguard...amblin-man-book
 4. Another nod during the Intro (early on in the video). "Fun fact - Jaco played the hi-hat and kick separately" - Vulf. Great band.
 5.
If you need them, fine. They look sh*t though.
I don't know about that. My iPad looks much nicer than some of those cheap Tesco Tablets. Not saying it performs any better, of course.
 6. Play Bass as much as you can, rather than talk about playing Bass as much as you can.
 7. Worth going back a bit further as well and checking out some of these guys. 'Freebo', his work with Bonnie Raitt. Colin Moulding with XTC, among others. Rick Danco with The Band. Plenty from Les Claypool. Tony Levin. John Giblin. Steve Bailey does a whole lot of Fretless tuition videos. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=steve+bailey+fretless+bass
 8. Yes, this track is great. A lovely nod to Jaco.
 9.
Just an epic 80's electric groove record from the Pointer Sisters.!!! Absolutely love this record. (as does my sister)
Pointer Sisters released some top, top tunes. Guilty pleasure of mine.
 10.
What the f*** is the 808 dink.? i presume its that keys/sync sound..?
I think he means the "808 Dink Fair Sweater Broodcock", if not, he might be talking about the awful quasi, cacky, tinpot attempt at a Cowbell sound, that was crawling all over Whitney Houston 80's tunes. Then again, it might be those funny Tom sounding things...... Wet hey, similar sounds here on this terrific tune. Amii Stewart. http://youtu.be/aaZ3uo-cH-Y
 11.
What about Chaka Khan? The outfit - it certainly 'gained your attention' if you know what I mean!
Not sure what you mean.... http://youtu.be/QAVm2bWulLc
 12. Indeed, Bilbo. 80 odd years ago, I don't think punters were bothered about the pile of Junk this band had on stage. http://youtu.be/YzN5K6rX2to
 13.
If they play and sound well what does it matter.
This. I suppose, at the end of the day if it works for you, that's all that matters. Next thread please.
 14. Yes, the Heart cover is great. I also like the duo 'Rodrigo y Gabriela', seen them a couple of times live and they play great. A couple of Beatles covers I really like....
 15.
Jazzy AND funky. This is outrageous.
Yer, I agree. This was out last year sometime. Terrific bunch of Musicians (Nashville studio players). The brass arranging towards the end is great writing.
 16.
The double bass evolved from the viola da gamba family of Instruments.
Beautiful sounding Instrument. What's better than a Viola Da Gamba ? Two of them... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLeXWQTGn2M
 17. Some fiddle players (usually Blue Grass and Country), modify their bridge so it is a bit flatter. (my next door 'Fiddle' Neighbour has spent many hours explaining this to me) That way it is easier to play drones and triple stops. More geeky Violin vs Fiddle talk here, http://stringsmagazine.com/learn-the-difference-between-violin-and-fiddle/
 18.
Will the production team have been combing through the recording, checking whether anybody is visible who's died since it was recorded? At the rate they've been dropping off the twig, there's plenty of potential for embarrassment.
The Hootenanny show should be fine. A lot of quality and talented people have died this year.
 19. Mark King gets a terrible panning on this board from some, but, he still has a ridiculous amount of enthusiasm, drive and energy. Especially after playing the same tunes for years on end. Although I am saying the same tunes, I found this while listening to the OP video. The first track is 'Break Out'. Level 42 sound great on this. A perfect match - Level 42 + Swing Out Sister. Mark King is right 'on it' playing the (original) Bass Synth line with his thumb. Corrine Drewery seems to be struggling a bit, in and out the whole number. But, Lordy, that Brass arranging and playing is terrific, and that modulation in the middle of 'Break Out' is just marvellous. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lluiXLbL9TU
 20.

Must admit, it had me scratching my head for a while.
 21.
I know...I was waiting for the punchline...
Really ? And there you was Muzz, taking the piss out of Jamie Cullen and Jazz.... Merry Xmas all.
 22.
Speaking of Steve Swallow, have had some fun at a local jam with Chicken Dog: https://www.youtube....h?v=0RjAPKk2jTA
I like one of the posts. "These old guys sound pretty hip. More so than a lot of younger players."
 23.
Maybe it should go in the 'fewer notes' thread?
Heard this the other day, it's great. It's refreshing when I hear folks do their own take on a cover.
 24.
I have a family connection to Chas and have known the pair of them for years, but not so much lately. Dave is about the nicest bloke you could ever meet and Chas was primarily a bass player (and a bloody good one at that). Chas was in a band called The Outlaws with Ritchie Blackmore of all people and was also n Head ands and Feet. They are both superb musicians and used to come round my house on Burns Night for a jam and a sing song many years ago.
They are great guys. I did a summer season with them a few years back (I was in the main turn band) and got to know them well at the time. Blimey, they could put the booze away. Had a few drunken nights with them. I got to play the P Bass a few times as well, along with learning the vocal technique for "Rabbit"..
