7. Carol Kaye, Pedestrian? CK was great at documenting her career, usually backed up by her fellow studio musicians. Back in those days,'demo' sessions were big business, usually paying the top rates. It was quite possible you played on something, but in fact, that particular cue didn't make the final cut. So, it was possible that CK may have mistaken her part for someone else's part on the same tune. Not saying that was the case, but might go some way in explaining some of her disputed track claims. Demo tracks were still invoiced and tax deducted. All in a days work of the studio musician. There where an awful lot of top, top arrangers, producers, Musicians, Conductors, MD's, Fixers and Orchestrators who sure did love 'Pedestrian'. 8.
What a bunch of f....ing moaners. Wind it in guys! £3000 a school A YEAR buys a lot of equipment that can be SHARED between pupils. Imagine what you'd buy with gas if you had £3k a year to spend. As for the moaning about all kids want to do is play on computers, you're the parents, stop them! I get sick of this getting trotted out in the media. Then when the kids play in the streets all the grown ups complain about the noise and whether their precious cars are going to get scratched. Unbelievable. Kids are not all stuck at home on computers all day. I spent a whole day at Olympia last Saturday at the drum show. Plenty of talented kids there playing drums and testing kit and bugging their parents to buy them £800 worth of cymbals (no son lets just get the hi-hats for Christmas and a set of sticks today.) Electirc drum kit for under £300 excellent for learning on.

The entire comment really. The attempt at an analogy using Russian dictionaries isn't relevant and simply doesn't work. Kids are not listening to music we grew up with - There's lots of new music around that's incredibly popular. May not be to your taste but it's readily available. Just turn on any radio station (or check YouTube or FaceBook music channels) listened to by school age kids and you'll hear some. Sure there's a lot of vocal biased music but that's always been the way. Young kids now are using modern instruments and these will include sampling, synths, drum and rhythm tracks etc. That's just progress, a bit like musicians using a 'Fender bass' in the 50's & 60's instead of an upright. Try going to a concert where acts are performing that are popular amongst younger people - the passion and feeling for their favourites is palpable and exciting to witness. You may not like the music but you can't question the passion at these events. A secondary school local to me has really put some effort into generating interest and participation in music. Their main music room is now really large and has at least 20 decent quality Yamaha & Casio keyboards, quite a few laptops with recording and sampling software, a drum kit and lots of percussion and a couple of guitars. The walls are plastered with all sorts of inspiring and educational stuff. The school now has a great reputation for musical performances and the music room is a popular place. They even let it out to people like our band to rehearse to keep it being used as regularly as possible as a music place. All of this is really inspiring and great to experience. Putting more money into schemes and progressive thinking schools like this can only help to inspire more young people to enjoy music more.
9. Reaper is a 'trial version' - until you pay for it... Most DAW's do a fully functional 'Demo version' for 30 days. It's never been easier to 'try before you buy'....Without wearing an eye patch and having a Parrot balancing on your shoulder. ras52 makes a good point above.
 10.
Another cracking podcast this week on improvisation.
Improvisation? That should go down well on Basschat...lol.... Thanks for the heads up on the programme.

 12. I use TouchOSC for iPad. I have mapped presets for both Audio channels, mixing and FX, along with presets for controlling all midi CC#s and parameters. This has been a great workflow improvement, more so for all things midi related, that were a fiddly pain with the mouse.

 19.
Time for an update, as I've grown very old. My luvverly little friend and surrogate grandchild, the 6-year-old from next door, was supposed to play Sudoku on my 15 years old Nokia. Instead, she quickly ran through the menus and took pics of everything she saw - - mainly of my dog of course, but also this one of me.
Love the glasses. Your discription paints a great picture and something of interest to me. Seems like you can still peer over the top for a 'Selfie' as well.
 20. You are not restricted to major chords of a particular scale. I think that is the point of the OP. Nothing at all stoping you adding a Bb major into a tune written in the key of C major. Or a D major chord for a tune written in E major. Fleetwood Mac's ' Don't Stop' springs to mind. Or playing Bb and Eb major chords in a tune written in the key of C. 'Can't Get Enough', Bad Company.
 21. So, I presume the six string version has the low B and high C strings somewhere around the back of the neck. Nice sound though.
 22. RIP Leon Russell. Great writing, covered by many. http://youtu.be/WVtYNbFAxrY

 24.
"In favour of something less cliched" was my comment; not "In favour of something more complex."
I was kinda joking, Arthur. In a funny way I did agree with you. But then, I was thinking back over a lot of chart tunes through the decades that I liked. And I couldn't think of that many with the cliched chord sequence(s) you were talking about. The first half dozen or so were not even close. California Dreamin' Wake up Everybody Don't leave me this Way MacArthur Park One Day I Fly Away Street Life Never Too Much Africa I could go on and on...All with Combinations of Minors, Sus 2 or 4, Extensions, Inversions. Chromatic Bass lines. But then again you did say "continue to be written and recorded", so I presume you are talking about in the very recent past?
