Will Lee - Bass Player with Impeccable Taste!

Yep great version, I posted this last year. WL does a terrific job along with an outstanding Orchestra. Love the cake at the end... Wasn't Will the voice of Ronald MacDonald many moons ago? I am sure I read that somewhere. I know he did commercial vocal sessions as well as Bass. -
This is excellent. Great stuff dude.
A few noodles using Philharmonik. The first three with the 'normal' mode; one can hear the awful slurring due to lousy fingering on my part. The instrument must be tuned spot on, I find. The last four are using the 'chromatic' mode, where pitch bending doesn't occur (harp, string section...)... I've no idea if this will help anyone, but the gadget does what I want to use it for.I'm keeping it (but keeping my keyboard, too..!). Sonuus 4 ...
Thank's for that. As we were looking for adding CC#'s and taking advantage of expression maps, articulations, etc, we decided to go another route. USB breath controller, along with our trusted old AKAI MidiMix (slider controller). There are plenty of good reviews around, plus it has been tested with Omnisphere, Kontakt, VSL and Spitfrire Audio. http://www.tecontrol.se/products/usb-midi-breath-controller Demo videos. https://www.native-instruments.com/forum/threads/tec-breath-controller-is-cool.233209/

Wasn't Colin Hodgkinson doing it back then as well ? He was also doing chordal work along with soloing.
Reviving this thread because I have only just discovered the joys of Jerry Jemmott. I was listening to a Wilson Pickett greatest hits CD in the car. There's his cover of 'Hey Jude' on it. I was instantly struck by the fact that the bass playing was somewhat tasty No musicians listed on the CD, but after a bit of googling I discovered it was Jerry Jemmott. Wow. Can't believe I'd never heard of him before.
http://youtu.be/0y8Q2PATVyI
Useful..? To me, definitely. Will it do all..? Quite probably not, but I'll find the limitations as I continue the trials. For the moments, I'm having best results using a guitar, rather than a bass (but that's the range I'm wanting, anyway, for now...), and using the 'chromatic' mode, which hones in on exact semitones rather than absolute pitch. I'm finding (but it's early days...) that the pitch sensitivity is too high for my poor playing; one has to have a very 'clean hand' for it not to waver about . Only hundredths, but enough to throw it, so I'm not using the guitar vibrato at all, only that of the Vst. I'd say, then, that half of the expression is 'baked in', as you say; the rest is the lightness of touch and playing style. Certainly, I can do a run through of a few instruments; I've been using Alpine's English Horn (it's like an oboe; also known as a cor anglais...), but will strike up a session with Philharmonik this evening or tomorrow, and run through a few favourites. String ensemble, solo violin, trombone, harp... I'll test out a few, then post the results here in the same fashion. I'll try source vibrato, but no guarantee that I can, as yet, master that. We'll see... Remember, this is purely monophonic, so any chordal work (counter-point, fugues...) will have to be done one instrument at a time. If I get inspired, I'll try a compo of the sort, to see if I can get it to 'gel'. Any other requests, while I'm here..? Vangelis, did I hear, there at the back..? Gerroff..! You're just takin' the Mickey..!
Sorry, I did mean useful for my son, or me, even - And yes, played/triggered on Guitar rather than Bass. It's the vib and possibly volume pedal expression, that I might be interested in.
Just a noodle; here's a Soundcloud of the interface, received about an hour ago. Straight out of the (tiny...) box, plug'n'play into Reaper, using my guitar (Xaviere XV600...), playing a Vst Alpine English horn; one take... Sonuus 1 Noodle ... Does it work..? Yes, for what I want it to do. I'll do a bass one later, once I've sussed it out a bit more.
Sounds like it could be useful. Could you do me a favour, Douglas, and trigger some Orchestral samples? Strings, Brass and Woodwinds would be good. Just wondering how light vibrato would work. I presume that the expression on The English Horn was baked into the sample? or maybe not?

Going to give it a run out in the morning, not really sure what the sound library is all about.

For a short time, Chroma RMX library free - four gigs. Just a case of giving them your email before checkout. https://insessionaudio.com/products/chroma/

Through my 'phones, I like mix two better... A little more air on the whole mix as well..... But, I have 59 year old ears, so best not to listen to my ramblings. Plus I have been working through the early hours with someone and I am all coffee headed.
10, 000, 000 violinists, cellists and double bass players can't be wrong. The idea that fretless is harder than fretted is entirely mythological. It is merely different.
I noticed you didn't mention Viola players. Muscle memory and ears. Intonation is the big thing to master. You may think you sound great at home, but when out playing with other Instruments and players, things start to sound murky. But yer. go for it.
Finished mine today So, I went for the obvious - a sci-fi style affair, a fairly slow one with a variety of instruments - like I'd ever stick to a few instruments! My favourite being the Sound Dust Ghost Piano, a fantastic sounding instrument. My MIM precision sounds rather nice on this too (as the strings get older it sounds better and better). I held off on my usual overuse of EQ and compression and it really helped on this. https://soundcloud.c...he-living-night
Blimey, how many VST's? If you had been related to Tchaikovsky, I suppose you might have used some canons as well. (It does sound good though). Impressive list.
Got mine and it isn't very good with logic, going to return it.
In what way? Curious, because one of my boys has been looking at this. He can't seem to find much feedback.

Although I don't use it, I believe Reaper has an MP3 encoder. No limits or restrictions and has a fully fledged DAW attached to it (free to use as demo). More than likely a smaller download than most MP3/Audio converters. Just saying. http://www.reaper.fm/

Various Keyboards. Acoustic, Electric and Organs. http://bigcatinstrum...nstruments.html More here, including the 'Iowa' and 'Sonatina' Orchestral libraries. These have been knocking around for a while and are now in Kontakt format. Some very usable sounds that are also great for layering with other Orchestral samples or both together. Plenty of good (excellent) sample library patches out there, but if you don't fancy the keyboard route, why not get yourself an Acoustic Fretless Bass Guitar? Although to be honest, you can't beat the real thing (sound and feel wise)

^^^ Yes, Kontakt is required. The full version, not the free player.
