I couldn't possibly make any comments about that!!
I didn't really mean to be offensive. It's just I know a couple of Rockerbilly Bassists who mockingly refer to their Slap technique as just "Twatting It", and they are excellent at that style. Can you throw a rope ladder down this big hole, please?
(I use 'VideoPad' for simple video editing; it's free for home use...) VideoPad ...
So, what's the difference between free/home/master editions? Commercial use? https://secure.nch.com.au/cgi-bin/register.exe?software=videopad
I'm not learning the upright bass just for one recording session.
Judging by the Bassists in those YouTube videos, neither did they. They are just twatting the thing.

He certainly likes hogging all the solos.

Fred bump. Just seen this on Facebook. Looks like the 80's and Dennis Smith is using a JD. It sounds lovely. (looks like he is a mastering engineer these days, also has him down for 'The Riddle'. Not sure how accurate this page is though. https://www.discogs....-Dennis-Smith-2 A rearranged classic. I know this studio, it's not far from where I live. There is an interesting set of YouTube Videos, if you want to get a feel for the place. http://youtu.be/gQUa_w2Flc4

Heard this band before, I thought they were really good, although I think they had a different Bassist at the time. Yes, nice tone and a groovy playing on the OP video. Some band info here. They do a lot of work in Europe. http://skerryvore.com/

So, if you use the Video, does the entry need to be loaded up onto YouTube/Vimeo for the voting? or just the Audio cue up on Soundcloud?

Ah..that's a real shame. R.I.P.

The best bass playing you have ever heard.?

I must say, Chuck Rainey (along with Anthony Jackson) is at the top of my faves list. They just have that magical 'something special' vibe going on. -
That is really something, talk about what doesn't kill you... I take it this was, er... a while back? Would you do it now?
Would I do it now? You are 'aving a Giraffe!, ain't you? Mid through until late 70's. A couple of the US bases, even had chicken wire around the stage.
In the summer we can have 3 four hour gigs in one weekend. Last summer we had 2 four hour gigs on the same day. A 2-6 and a 9-1. It's fun. Blue
You light weight!! I used to do tours of American military bases in Germany, which would be 5x45 mins per night, every night of a tour!! And 6x45 mins a night in a club in Denmark, six nights a week. I dunno...some people ain't lived... Carry on Rocking Blue.
Six months on upright and they all feel small.
It has to be this.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNj9bXKGOiI
I loved the slap sound from Marcus back in the early days (this track). More throaty, maybe before he had the preamp fitted? Similar sound on the Dave Grusin album 'Mountain Dance', which was recorded about a year earlier. I find that musical ideas just pour out of MM. His Fretless solos are very musical and lyrical. -
Most of the people I expected to be there, are. And In the order I expected from 'Rolling Stone'. Considering the amount of top TV/Film/Album sessions and credits (100's) they have, I am surprised that Carlos Vega and Harvey Mason are not mentioned. Hey ho, it's just a Brahms and Liszt, list.
Truth. Bottom line - this groove is great...but isn't difficult in the grand scheme of things. These guys live on playing that kind of stuff, so it's second nature to them. Anyone who finds what I've just said controversial or offensive - or indeed, has taken offence at anything Blue has said - simply needs to grow the fk up; musically and otherwise.
I have to agree, Jaywalker.
I still think Marcus Miller when he plays finger style is just one of the best bass players alive. But he is not Pino Palladino.
Why would he want to be Pino, when he has made a stonking career as Marcus Miller? PP and MM are different players in style. There are far too many players for me to list that I really like, even those players still never cease to amaze me, I am always hearing something new with every listen. Yes, Marcus Millers finger/fretless playing is great. http://youtu.be/CCnQOmzukRs -
Very rare footage though - there's not a lot of this type of stuff. I am a total Jaco nut...it's good to see something new
Jaco fan as well, and yes, good to see new footage. -
Really? I thought that was pretty much standard procedure, start off slow & build up to full speed.
Not on Jaco material. You start of on full speed, and then get faster and faster. Usually on a gig. -
R.I.P. Ronnie c and the funky theme tune to sorry! When is someone going to pay more attention to the genius that was the ronnie hazlehurst band, the theme from are you being served has such cool bass and the sorry theme is just fantastic as was a load of others.Who was Hazlehursts bass beau. Theres not much on the net.
One of his Bass players was 'Dave Richmond'. There is some info on this link regarding Musicians that RH used, and people he was involved with - An interesting read. http://www.verygoodplus.co.uk/showthread.php/5064-Ronnie-Hazlehurst Yes, he wrote some great memorable theme tunes and was a very respected Musical Director. Credit list is very impressive http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0372024/

March Composition Challenge - VOTING (and prizes!)
lowdown replied to Skol303's topic in General Discussion
Can I assume that there'll be an appropriate hand-over ceremony, with speeches, ribbon cutting and light refreshments, for the Official Prize-Giving..? Not sure I'll be available to attend, though; [s]busy social calendar, doncha know..?[/s] can't get further than a few yards at the moment. On the same subject, has anyone dared to tell Ped yet that there was a tie for silver..? I'm sure he won't want one of those great polos cut in half (yes, they are great; I really am wearing mine right now..!); I hope his pockets are deep enough to cover the extravagance..!
Or, they take turns wearing the one Polo shirt, without ever washing it.
