1. Another (totally) free programme for zipping and unzipping. 7-Zip - Very popular and unzips just about anything. (Not that the others mentioned above don't). Tech folks seem to think it has better compression ratios, But who knows? They all do the job for the average needs, just another option really. http://www.7-zip.org
2.
I would never condone looking for the full software packages on torrent sites.
I think he meant 'free' legal version(s), and not free as in 'pirate'. Have a look here. Some free and some paid for. http://atoragon.blogspot.co.uk/2014/09/the-best-free-vst-bass-amps-sims.html
3. I like they way the punters start singing SOTW near the end, just to remind him what song he was playing.... Priceless...Lol.....
4. Hey Joel, I just had a listen on CD Baby. The previews are quite short, but from what I heard, it sounds great, with some very nice playing (and programming) going on. Excellent. Sounds like it was quite a long project?
5.
Me too, how about a bit of this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8Le8bH3Y8U
Same Bass player on this track as well, I believe (Russ Stapleford). http://youtu.be/aaQWOne1sfo
6. Agree with the Valhalla room verb. Best $50 I have spent. Also you can grab their Freq Echo for free, also very good. https://valhalladsp.com/shop/delay/valhalla-freq-echo/
7. Ha, ha..I was recently out with a friend who was pulling his hair out, regarding auditioning Bass players for an overseas gig. He told me, that most of the folk that turned up, didn't understand 'Bass Player required' part of the ad...Lol...
8. As a song, it was ok and nor certainly something I hated. Although playing it in function bands, was a boring experience. A tune that just didn't go anywhere, especially at the end of a long evening, when it was hard to keep your eyes open. But on the other hand - Just stand there and think of the cheque.
9.
As a Latino all I can say is to forget about locking with one instrument and figure yourself in the middle of everything. That's how the bass players can get in an out. As you said all instrument interlock with each other and that makes it difficult for you as a bass player to lock with just one instrument. Another great book is "Funkifying the clave" by Lincoln Goines. I hope this helps.
This. You need to immerse yourself in the music. Listen to as much as you can and try and get a real feel for the various styles. That might mean listening to more traditional (Latin) music from the various regions and cultures.
10. A great new iOS App for inter-app Midi connections between Apps. You can already connect Audio with 'Audiobus', but now it can be done with Midi as well. Midi flow http://www.midiflow.com Audiobus https://audiob.us
11. Very sad. Loved his opening Tenor line intro on Street Life, and of course, the knockout solo.
12.
I thought it was going to be a Small Faces cover
Ha..ha...(title ammended).
13. Sarah Jory, and very nice playing indeed. http://youtu.be/MPumtjQqoYk
14. A great deal on at the moment over at 'Spitfire Audio' for the Albion Library. If you want EPIC Cinematic/Orchestral, this is a great buy. All the essential articulations, ready to go straight out of the box. Everything recorded in correct seating positions with hall verb. Minimal production needed. Offer ends October 1st. £149.00 + VAT http://www.spitfireaudio.com/albion
15. David Arnold scores moved the Bond scores on, I wouldn't say they were better than the John Barry scores. The Barry scores were right for the time era, same as the Arnold music. Both brilliant (IMO of course). Small bit of trivia - This will be the first Bond film without Derek Watkins (RIP) on Trumpet. I think he was 17/18 when he recorded 'Dr.No'. A mix of both here. 16.
Looks like it's a 'Dr. No' from us, then...
Fixed.
17.
This 15-second version is OK!
18. Definition of perfect pitch? Dropping a Banjo down a well, and hope it doesn't touch the sides. post img
19. Doesn't fit at all with the 'Bond' image (for me). And that Falsetto nonsense, it really does sound like he is going to s#*t himself.
20. Still love listening to that version. Bob Mintzers solo is great, Jaco right on it, clean and with lovely intonation. Pan solo has some great phrases in it as well. After all these years, I still have no problem listening to his playing. One of the greats in the Bass world.
21.
Tru, dat.
Christ, I have just noticed your post count. Don't you ever go home?
22. Big fan of Rickie Lee Jones over the years, but that was pretty poor from her. JH and his Drummer didn't help, no feel for the style of music whatsoever.
23. Yes, have done many in the past (when the money was better)....Lol. Pretty much all what Andy and Stuart said above. I did a few long stints when I was younger, Caribbean and World Cruises etc. A great way to save money quickly and does wonders for your playing. I mainly did the show/Orchestra gigs and a few Jazz trio sets, and the standard was pretty high. I was fortunate enough to get the tail end of the P&O gigs as well, where you could just do two week depping in the production show band, Cruising around the Med, Canary Islands etc (In and out of Southampton). Social life was good (great in fact), single or shared cabin was dependant on what company or ship it was. Met my wife on a cruise thirty years ago. She was a singer dancer in the show I was backing. Up and down the South American Riveria for six months. That cruise was particulary good, because we used to get two over nights in Rio and two in Buenos Aires as well. And we got to eat with the passengers and use their bars, I am pretty sure that doesn't happen these days. We have very fond memories of that gig...lol... I have done my stint and loved it, but I wouldn't do it again. If you are young, I would highly recommend it. Certainly a way to get your playing, reading and busking chops together, and get to see the World.
24.
From the title, I thought that Milty had been to Neverland.
